Overview

The Futaba FDLS-1 Dual-Rx Link System is a specialised two receiver communication switch device designed for RC enthusiasts in the UK who require advanced dual receiver setups. This compact and lightweight solution enables seamless coordination between two receivers under the control of a single transmitter, making it an essential component for serious RC car UK builders and operators who demand redundancy and reliability in their radio systems. Whether you're running a high-performance brushless RC car or managing complex multi-receiver configurations, the FDLS-1 delivers the professional-grade connectivity you need.

Built by Futaba, a manufacturer with over 60 years of leadership in radio control technology, the FDLS-1 represents the pinnacle of dual receiver integration. This device is particularly valuable for RC model enthusiasts who want to ensure continuous control and failsafe protection across their equipment. The system supports both S.BUS and S.BUS2 command protocols, making it compatible with a wide range of modern Futaba receivers and ensuring your investment remains future-proof as technology evolves.

The FDLS-1 is engineered with simplicity and reliability in mind. Its compact 240 mm lead length and featherweight 6.5 g design mean it integrates cleanly into almost any RC model without adding unnecessary bulk or weight distribution issues. Whether you're a seasoned competition racer, a weekend basher enjoying ready to run RC setups, or an advanced modeller customising your vehicle, the Futaba FDLS-1 provides the dual receiver management solution you've been looking for.

Key Features

  • Dual Receiver Communication Switch — This device acts as a bridge between two receivers operating under the same transmitter, ensuring coordinated control and enhanced reliability. For RC enthusiasts running dual receiver systems, this capability provides redundancy that can be crucial during long sessions or competitive events.
  • S.BUS and S.BUS2 Protocol Support — The FDLS-1 is compatible with both S.BUS and S.BUS2 command protocols, giving you flexibility in receiver selection and ensuring compatibility with current and future Futaba radio systems. This dual protocol support means you can mix and match receivers as your needs evolve.
  • Extended 240 mm Lead Length — The generous 240 mm (9.5 inch) lead provides ample routing flexibility within your RC model chassis, allowing you to position the device optimally for weight distribution and cable management without compromise.
  • Ultra-Lightweight Design — Weighing just 6.5 grams (0.2 ounces), the FDLS-1 adds negligible weight to your setup, making it ideal for vehicles where every gram matters, from competition-grade RC buggies to precision-engineered crawlers and bashers.
  • Broad Operating Voltage Range — With a nominal operating voltage of DC 3.7–7.4V and an acceptable range of DC 3.5–8.4V, the FDLS-1 works seamlessly with standard RC receiver power systems, from 1S lithium batteries to multi-cell setups common in ready to run RC configurations.
  • Professional Futaba Engineering — Manufactured by Futaba, a company established in 1948 with over 70 years of heritage in radio control, the FDLS-1 benefits from decades of expertise in receiver technology and dual-system integration, ensuring reliability you can trust.

Technical Performance

The Futaba FDLS-1 represents refined engineering optimised for performance and reliability in demanding RC applications. The device operates across a carefully specified voltage window of DC 3.7–7.4V (acceptable 3.5–8.4V), ensuring compatibility with the lithium polymer and NiMH battery systems standard in modern RC cars and trucks throughout the UK market. The ultra-compact form factor—just 240 mm in length and weighing 6.5 grams—demonstrates Futaba's commitment to minimalist design that doesn't compromise on functionality. The FDLS-1 handles the complex task of managing communication between two separate receivers, each potentially controlling different vehicle systems, whilst maintaining the integrity of signal transmission across both S.BUS and S.BUS2 protocols. This dual protocol support is particularly important for modellers who may have existing receivers of different generations or who plan to upgrade their radio systems over time. The device's ability to synchronise dual receiver setups under a single transmitter makes it invaluable for applications requiring failsafe redundancy or simultaneous control of multiple vehicle functions. Construction quality reflects Futaba's heritage as a leading manufacturer; the device is built to withstand the vibration, temperature fluctuations, and environmental stresses typical of RC racing, bashing, and competitive use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Futaba FDLS-1 and why would I need a dual receiver link system? — The FDLS-1 is a specialised device that allows you to run two receivers under the control of a single transmitter. This is useful for redundancy (if one receiver fails, the other takes over), for controlling multiple independent systems on your RC model, or for applications requiring enhanced signal security. Many advanced RC car UK setups use dual receivers for competition or safety-critical applications.
  • Which receivers are compatible with the FDLS-1? — The FDLS-1 is compatible with Futaba receivers that support S.BUS or S.BUS2 command protocols. Both receivers must be under the control of the same transmitter. It's essential that both receivers use identical 2.4GHz protocols; mixing different 2.4GHz protocols will prevent the FDLS-1 from operating properly. Always verify compatibility with your specific receivers before purchase.
  • What voltage does the FDLS-1 require, and what batteries can power it? — The FDLS-1 operates at a nominal voltage of DC 3.7–7.4V, with an acceptable range of DC 3.5–8.4V. This makes it compatible with single-cell lithium polymer (1S LiPo) batteries at the lower end, through to multi-cell configurations. Standard RC receiver power systems will work perfectly with this device.
  • Is the FDLS-1 suitable for beginners? — The FDLS-1 is designed for modellers with intermediate to advanced knowledge of RC systems. Whilst the device itself is straightforward, implementing a dual receiver setup requires understanding of receiver configuration, protocol matching, and proper wiring. Beginners starting with ready to run RC models may not need this device, but as you progress to custom builds and advanced setups, it becomes an invaluable tool.
  • Can I mix 2.4GHz protocols with the FDLS-1? — No. The FDLS-1 requires both receivers to use identical 2.4GHz protocols. Mixing different protocols (for example, one Futaba FASST receiver and one FASST-X receiver, or receivers from different manufacturers) will cause the system to malfunction. Always ensure protocol compatibility before installation.
  • How long is the lead on the FDLS-1, and will it fit in my vehicle? — The FDLS-1 features a 240 mm (9.5 inch) lead length, providing ample routing flexibility within most RC model chassis. This length allows you to position the device optimally for weight distribution and cable management without requiring splicing or extension leads.
  • What makes the FDLS-1 different from simply running two independent receivers? — The FDLS-1 provides coordinated communication between two receivers under a single transmitter, ensuring synchronisation and failsafe capability that independent receivers cannot provide. It's designed specifically for applications where reliable dual receiver management is critical.
