Technical Performance
The Futaba R334SBS represents a significant engineering achievement in compact receiver design for RC car and boat applications. Built with precision components and meticulous attention to detail, this receiver delivers the lightning-fast response times that distinguish high-performance RC control systems from standard alternatives. The T-FHSS SR protocol operates at 2.4GHz, a frequency band that provides excellent propagation characteristics and immunity from interference, making it ideal for competitive racing environments where reliability is paramount. The receiver's PWM command protocol interface allows seamless integration with a vast array of servo motors, whilst the S.BUS2 telemetry system enables sophisticated data logging and real-time performance monitoring that was previously available only on professional-grade equipment.
Operating voltage flexibility from 3.7V to 7.4V represents a major advantage for RC enthusiasts, as it accommodates both standard lithium polymer batteries (3.7V single-cell) and higher-capacity multi-cell configurations that deliver increased servo torque and response speed. The compact dimensions of 33.9 x 22.3 x 11.3mm (1.33 x 0.88 x 0.44 inches) combined with the lightweight 7.5-gram mass make this receiver ideal for weight-sensitive applications where every gram counts towards performance. The moulded plastic chassis provides excellent impact resistance whilst maintaining structural integrity, and the diversity antenna system ensures you maintain signal lock regardless of model orientation or antenna position. Gold-plated connectors prevent oxidation and ensure reliable electrical connections over extended periods of use, whilst the robust engineering ensures the receiver will deliver consistent performance season after season in competitive RC car UK racing events.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba R334SBS suitable for beginners in RC car racing? — The R334SBS is best suited to intermediate and advanced RC car UK enthusiasts rather than complete beginners. Its T-FHSS SR system and requirement for SR-compatible servos means you need to understand receiver and servo compatibility before purchasing. However, if you're upgrading from a basic RC car or moving into competitive racing, this receiver offers excellent value and performance that will serve you well as your skills develop. The robust engineering and proven Futaba reliability make it an excellent long-term investment.
- What battery voltage does the R334SBS require? — The receiver operates at DC voltages from 3.7V to 7.4V, providing excellent flexibility. A single-cell 3.7V lithium polymer battery represents the minimum voltage, whilst a two-cell 7.4V battery pack delivers maximum performance. When using high-voltage input power of 7.4V, you must ensure all connected equipment including servos is also capable of high-voltage operation, as the receiver does not include voltage regulation down to lower levels. Many modern RC car servos support this voltage range, but always verify servo specifications before connection.
- Can I use standard servos with the R334SBS? — No, and this is a critical point. When using the T-FHSS SR mode, you must use SR mode compatible servos. Standard servos cannot be used with this receiver in SR mode, as the command protocol incompatibility may cause servo malfunction or damage. Futaba produces several SR-compatible servo options including the BLS371SV, BLS471SV, BLS571SV, BLS671SV, BLS671SVi, S9372SV and S9373SV, and many of these servos can be updated to activate SR mode if purchased in standard form. The receiver also supports standard T-FHSS mode operation, which is compatible with conventional servos, allowing you flexibility in your setup.
- What is the difference between T-FHSS and T-FHSS SR modes? — T-FHSS SR (Super Response) is Futaba's high-speed variant designed specifically for surface models like RC cars and boats that require rapid response times. The SR mode offers significantly faster command processing compared to standard T-FHSS, delivering the instantaneous control response essential for competitive RC car racing. T-FHSS is the standard variant, and whilst this receiver supports both modes, you must use appropriate servos for each mode. When racing at competitive levels or in high-speed applications, T-FHSS SR mode with compatible servos is strongly recommended.
- Is this receiver waterproof for RC boats? — The R334SBS features a robust moulded plastic case that provides good environmental protection suitable for RC boat applications. However, the manufacturer does not specify a formal waterproof rating. The gold-plated connectors and sealed construction help protect against moisture, but we recommend consulting the detailed user manual for specific guidance on water exposure and considering protective mounting positions within your boat hull to minimise direct water contact with electrical connectors.
- What is S.BUS2 telemetry and why does it matter? — S.BUS2 is an advanced digital communication protocol that enables bidirectional communication between the receiver and compatible servo motors or external telemetry modules. This allows real-time monitoring of servo position, voltage, temperature and performance data during operation. For competitive RC car UK racers, telemetry provides valuable performance feedback that can help optimise setup, diagnose issues and improve consistency. The data can be logged and analysed after racing sessions to refine your vehicle tuning.
- How does the diversity antenna system work? — Diversity antenna technology uses multiple antenna elements to improve signal reception quality. The system automatically selects the antenna with the strongest signal at any given moment, ensuring consistent reception regardless of the receiver's orientation or antenna position within your RC model. This is particularly valuable during dynamic RC car racing where the model's attitude changes constantly, ensuring you maintain signal lock and control throughout competition.
- What range can I expect from the R334SBS? — Futaba's T-FHSS system is recognised for excellent range characteristics, though specific maximum range figures are not provided in the technical documentation. The 2.4GHz frequency band provides excellent propagation, and the diversity antenna system maximises reception quality. In typical RC car racing environments with no significant RF interference, you can expect reliable control at standard racing ranges. For specific range requirements, consult Futaba's customer service or your local RC hobby retailer.
- Can I use this receiver with Futaba transmitters other than the T7PX? — The R334SBS is compatible with any T-FHSS or T-FHSS SR mode transmitter in Futaba's product range. The receiver will bind to any compatible Futaba transmitter using the T-FHSS system. Check your transmitter's specifications to confirm T-FHSS or T-FHSS SR compatibility before purchasing. For maximum performance benefits, consider pairing with a transmitter that fully supports T-FHSS SR mode.
- How do I bind the receiver to my transmitter? — Binding procedures vary between transmitter models. Consult your transmitter's user manual and the R334SBS user manual for detailed binding instructions. The process typically involves entering bind mode on both the receiver and transmitter, then completing a synchronisation sequence. Detailed guidance is provided in the printed manual included with your receiver.
