Overview

The Futaba R3106GF is a professional-grade 6-channel T-FHSS air receiver designed specifically for aircraft models and aerial RC applications. This compact, lightweight receiver represents Futaba's commitment to delivering reliable radio control systems for the discerning UK RC pilot. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, or other airborne platforms, the R3106GF provides the dependable performance and straightforward setup that Futaba is renowned for across the globe.

For UK RC enthusiasts seeking a no-nonsense receiver solution without the complexity of telemetry systems, the R3106GF delivers exceptional value and reliability. Its diminutive form factor and featherweight construction make it ideal for scale models where weight and space are at a premium. The receiver operates on Futaba's proven T-FHSS air protocol, ensuring secure, interference-free communication with compatible Futaba transmitters. This is an essential component for any serious RC pilot in the UK building or restoring aircraft models.

Futaba has been a name synonymous with RC quality since 1962, and this receiver embodies decades of expertise in radio control technology. The R3106GF integrates seamlessly into aircraft builds, offering six independent channels for complete control authority over all essential flight surfaces and systems. For hobbyists, competition flyers, and everyone in between, this receiver provides the foundation for stable, responsive aircraft control.

Key Features

  • 6-Channel PWM Control — Provides six independent control channels for comprehensive command of aircraft surfaces, allowing you to operate ailerons, elevator, rudder, throttle, landing gear, and flaps or other auxiliary functions with precision and reliability.
  • T-FHSS Air (Mono Directional) 2.4 GHz Technology — Futaba's proprietary T-FHSS air protocol operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, delivering secure digital communication that resists interference and provides consistent signal lock even in crowded radio environments typical of UK flying fields.
  • PWM Command Protocol — The receiver outputs standard PWM signals that are compatible with virtually all modern RC servos and electronic control systems, ensuring straightforward integration into your aircraft build without requiring additional adapters or conversion modules.
  • Compact Lightweight Design — Weighing just 7.8 grams and measuring only 43.1 × 25 × 8.8 millimetres, this receiver is exceptionally small and light, making it ideal for scale models, trainer aircraft, and applications where weight and space conservation are critical factors.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range — With a rated operating voltage of 4.8 to 7.4 volts DC and an extended voltage range of 4.0 to 8.4 volts, the R3106GF accommodates both standard NiMH packs and LiPo batteries, providing flexibility in your power system selection.
  • No Telemetry Complexity — This receiver strips away telemetry functions to deliver a streamlined, straightforward setup focused on core flight control, making it perfect for pilots who prefer simplicity and reliability over advanced data logging systems.
  • Mono Directional Reception — The receiver features mono-directional antenna orientation, simplifying installation and allowing you to position it anywhere within your airframe without worrying about antenna alignment considerations.

Technical Performance

The Futaba R3106GF represents a masterclass in practical engineering for RC aviation. This receiver operates across the full 2.4 GHz frequency range using T-FHSS air protocol, which stands for Time-division Full-Hop Spread Spectrum, a technology that provides robust signal integrity by rapidly hopping across frequencies in a predetermined sequence known only to your transmitter. The rated voltage specification of 4.8 to 7.4 volts DC encompasses the output of both two-cell and three-cell NiMH batteries, whilst the extended operating range of 4.0 to 8.4 volts DC provides margin for voltage sag during peak servo current draw. The PWM command protocol ensures that all six channels output standard pulse-width-modulated signals that virtually every RC servo in the UK market will accept without modification. The receiver's construction is robust yet economical, with a sealed design protecting internal electronics from the vibration and occasional moisture exposure common in RC flying. At just 7.8 grams, the R3106GF is genuinely one of the lightest receivers available, allowing you to build lighter airframes and achieve better flight characteristics, particularly important for slow-flying scale models and high-altitude platforms where every gram matters. The compact dimensions of 43.1 millimetres length, 25 millimetres width, and 8.8 millimetres height mean you can route this receiver through fuselages with tight access, positioning it vertically, horizontally, or diagonally as your airframe geometry demands.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba R3106GF suitable for beginner RC pilots building their first aircraft? — Yes, the R3106GF is excellent for beginners because it eliminates telemetry complexity and focuses purely on stable aircraft control. The straightforward PWM output works with any standard RC servo, making integration simple. Beginners should ensure they have a compatible Futaba transmitter with T-FHSS air protocol support, and the receiver will provide reliable communication without requiring configuration of advanced settings. The lightweight design also benefits newer pilots by making their aircraft more forgiving in flight characteristics.
  • What power source should I use with the R3106GF receiver? — The receiver is rated for 4.8 to 7.4 volts DC and will operate safely from 4.0 to 8.4 volts. This means you can use a two-cell NiMH pack producing approximately 4.8 volts nominal, a three-cell NiMH pack producing approximately 7.2 volts nominal, or a compatible LiPo battery such as a 2S LiPo (7.4 volts nominal) within the operating range. Choose your power source based on your aircraft's servo requirements and overall weight budget.
  • How many servos can I connect to the R3106GF? — The receiver provides six independent PWM output channels, so you can connect up to six servos simultaneously. Typical aircraft applications use servos on channels 1 through 6 for aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, landing gear, and flaps respectively, though you can configure your transmitter to assign functions as your aircraft design requires.
  • Is this receiver compatible with my Futaba transmitter? — The R3106GF operates on T-FHSS air protocol, so you must have a Futaba transmitter that supports T-FHSS air-band operation. Most modern Futaba transmitters including the 6EX, 7C, 8J, 10C, and 14SG support this protocol. Older Futaba transmitters using FM or PCM protocols will not be compatible. Check your transmitter's manual or contact us to confirm compatibility before purchase.
  • What is the difference between the R3106GF and other Futaba air receivers? — The R3106GF is Futaba's entry-level T-FHSS air receiver, offering six channels of PWM control without telemetry capability. It's lighter and more economical than higher-end models that include telemetry, failsafe memory, or greater channel counts. For pilots who need basic, reliable aircraft control and value simplicity over advanced features, the R3106GF is the perfect choice. More advanced models like the R7008SB include eight channels and dual receivers with failsafe, but the R3106GF's no-telemetry design makes it lighter and more affordable.
  • How do I bind the R3106GF receiver to my Futaba transmitter? — Binding procedure varies by transmitter model. Generally, you'll enter bind mode on your transmitter, then apply power to the receiver whilst keeping it near the transmitter. The receiver will search for the transmitter's signal and lock on. Consult your transmitter's manual and the R3106GF manual for detailed bind instructions specific to your equipment. Most modern Futaba systems make binding straightforward and automatic.
  • Can I use this receiver with battery voltages below 4.8 volts or above 7.4 volts? — The receiver's rated voltage is 4.8 to 7.4 volts DC, meaning this is the range for which Futaba guarantees proper operation and component lifespan. However, the extended operating range of 4.0 to 8.4 volts indicates the receiver will function outside the rated range within these limits. Running continuously below 4.8 or above 7.4 volts may reduce component longevity, so stick to the rated voltage range for optimal reliability and lifespan.
