Overview

The Futaba SBS-01V Telemetry Voltage Sensor is an essential accessory for RC enthusiasts who demand real-time monitoring of their power systems during operation. Whether you're running an RC car, truck, buggy, or any other radio-controlled vehicle, maintaining precise awareness of your battery voltage is critical for safe, reliable performance. This advanced telemetry sensor integrates seamlessly with Futaba's S.BUS2 protocol systems, allowing you to monitor receiver battery voltage and external power supplies directly from your transmitter display. For serious RC hobbyists in the UK seeking to optimise their setups and prevent unexpected power failures, the SBS-01V represents a professional-grade solution that transforms how you manage your model's electrical systems.

Designed and manufactured by Futaba, a company that has been leading the way in radio control since 1962, the SBS-01V combines Japanese precision engineering with practical functionality. This telemetry voltage sensor is perfect for competitive RC racers, weekend bashers, and hobbyists who want to take their RC experience to the next level. The sensor's ability to measure both receiver supplies and secondary battery packs makes it invaluable for complex setups where multiple power sources are in use. With over 70 Futaba stockists across the UK and Ireland, combined with decades of expertise from J Perkins (the official UK and Ireland Futaba distributor since 1975), you can be confident that this is genuine, fully supported equipment backed by genuine customer care.

The lightweight construction and generous 870mm lead length make the SBS-01V incredibly flexible for installation across different RC vehicle types and configurations. Whether you're building a ready to run RC model or customising an existing setup, this sensor integrates with minimal hassle and maximum reliability. The external line range capability extends your monitoring options to 100V, opening possibilities for monitoring higher-voltage auxiliary systems beyond standard receiver batteries.

Key Features

  • S.BUS2 Telemetry Protocol Compatibility — The sensor communicates via the S.BUS2 digital protocol, which is the modern standard for Futaba telemetry systems, allowing you to view real-time voltage data on your transmitter's display screen without any additional wiring or complicated installations.
  • Dual Measurement Range Capability — With a normal line range of 3.5 to 8.4V perfect for receiver supplies and an external line range of 0 to 100V for monitoring secondary batteries or external power supplies, this sensor covers virtually every voltage monitoring scenario you'll encounter in RC hobby use.
  • Extended External Voltage Monitoring (0-100V) — The impressive external line range allows you to monitor high-voltage auxiliary systems, making this sensor suitable for complex multi-battery RC setups where you need to track different power sources simultaneously.
  • Lightweight and Compact Design — At just 6g in weight, the sensor adds virtually no burden to your RC model, and its compact form factor means it won't interfere with your vehicle's weight distribution or handling characteristics.
  • Generous 870mm Lead Length — The long cable allows flexible routing and installation positioning, making it easy to place the sensor where it won't interfere with other components whilst maintaining optimal signal reception and measurement accuracy.
  • Real-Time Voltage Monitoring — This feature enables you to track your battery voltage continuously during operation, allowing you to make informed decisions about when to charge or replace batteries, extending the lifespan of your RC equipment and preventing mid-run power failures.
  • Receiver Battery and External Supply Monitoring — The dual-input capability means you can monitor both your receiver's power source and a secondary battery pack simultaneously, essential for advanced RC setups running multiple independent power systems.

Technical Performance

The Futaba SBS-01V represents the pinnacle of precision voltage monitoring technology for RC applications. Built to Futaba's exacting standards, the sensor employs sophisticated circuitry to deliver accurate voltage readings across its entire measurement range without drift or calibration issues. The dual-range design is particularly clever: the normal line range of 3.5 to 8.4V is perfectly calibrated for standard receiver batteries found in most RC cars, trucks and buggies, whilst the external line range extends from 0 to 100V, offering exceptional flexibility for monitoring high-capacity auxiliary systems or multiple battery configurations in parallel or series arrangements. The sensor's lightweight construction at just 6 grams ensures it has minimal impact on your model's centre of gravity or overall weight distribution, a consideration that matters greatly in competitive RC racing where every gram affects handling and performance. At 870mm in length, the extended lead provides sufficient reach for even large-scale RC vehicles or complex internal routing through tight spaces. The S.BUS2 protocol integration ensures compatibility with modern Futaba transmitters and receiver systems, offering a seamless telemetry experience without additional interface modules or complicated installation procedures. The sensor is engineered to withstand the vibration, temperature fluctuations and general environmental stresses inherent in RC operation, with durable construction that maintains accuracy over extended periods of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Futaba SBS-01V telemetry voltage sensor and why do I need one for my RC car? — The SBS-01V is a specialised sensor that continuously monitors the voltage of your receiver battery and any secondary power supplies, transmitting this data wirelessly to your Futaba transmitter display via S.BUS2 protocol. This is essential for RC enthusiasts because it prevents unexpected power failures during operation, allows you to optimise charging schedules, extends battery lifespan, and provides critical safety data during competitive racing or complex RC operations where multiple power sources are in use.
  • Is the SBS-01V suitable for beginners and first-time RC users? — Whilst the SBS-01V is technically advanced, it's genuinely useful for RC enthusiasts at all levels. Beginners benefit from understanding battery voltage behaviour and preventing unexpected shutdowns, whilst experienced racers and bashers appreciate the real-time telemetry data. If you're using a modern Futaba S.BUS2 system, adding this sensor is straightforward and the benefits are immediate and practical.
  • What is the difference between the normal line range and external line range on this sensor? — The normal line range (3.5 to 8.4V) is optimised for standard receiver battery packs used in most RC vehicles, whilst the external line range (0 to 100V) monitors secondary batteries, auxiliary power supplies, or larger capacity systems. This dual-range design means a single sensor can monitor your receiver supply and track additional power sources simultaneously, eliminating the need for multiple sensors.
  • How long is the sensor lead and will it reach my battery in a large RC vehicle? — The SBS-01V features an 870mm lead length (34.25 inches), which is exceptionally generous and will accommodate virtually any RC car, truck, buggy or larger scale model. This generous length allows flexible routing through tight spaces and gives you complete freedom in component placement without needing extension cables.
  • What voltage ranges does the SBS-01V monitor? — The sensor operates across two distinct ranges: the normal line range of 3.5 to 8.4V for standard receiver batteries, and the external line range of 0 to 100V for monitoring secondary supplies, auxiliary systems, or high-voltage battery configurations used in advanced RC setups.
  • Does the Futaba SBS-01V work with all Futaba transmitters and receivers? — The SBS-01V is designed specifically for S.BUS2 protocol systems, which is the modern telemetry standard used by current Futaba RC radio systems. Compatibility is excellent with contemporary Futaba equipment, though you should verify your specific transmitter and receiver support S.BUS2 telemetry before purchase.
  • How accurate is the voltage measurement on the SBS-01V? — Futaba's engineering ensures precision measurement across the entire operational range. The sensor delivers consistent, reliable readings suitable for both monitoring battery health and making critical operational decisions during RC racing and bashing sessions. The dual-range design ensures accuracy whether you're monitoring a 5V receiver supply or a 60V auxiliary system.
  • What weight does the sensor add to my RC model? — At just 6 grams (0.2 ounces), the SBS-01V is exceptionally lightweight and will have negligible impact on your model's weight distribution, handling characteristics, or performance. This is particularly important for competitive RC racers where weight management is crucial.
