Overview

The Traxxas Shocks GTR Hard-anodised PTFE-coated aluminium bodies with TiN shafts represent the absolute peak of suspension technology for 1/10 scale RC cars. Whether you're a serious competitor, a weekend basher, or an enthusiast looking to upgrade your RC car in the UK, these fully assembled shocks with integrated springs deliver a level of performance and durability that will transform your driving experience. These are not entry-level components — they are professional-grade suspension units that have been engineered to the highest standards by Traxxas, one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-performance RC vehicles and components.

If you're serious about getting the best handling, stability, and suspension performance from your 1/10 scale RC car, these GTR shocks are precisely what you need. The combination of advanced materials, precision engineering, and innovative design makes these shocks a significant upgrade over standard shock absorbers. UK RC enthusiasts have long recognised Traxxas as the benchmark for quality and performance, and these GTR shocks exemplify why the brand commands such respect in the hobby.

This package gives you four fully assembled shocks with springs already fitted, plus eight additional 2.5x10mm cross shafts, making this a complete solution for upgrading your RC suspension system. The shocks arrive ready to install, complete with 30-weight pure silicone shock oil already included, so you can get your RC car back on the track or trail immediately after installation.

Key Features

  • Hard-anodised aluminium shock bodies — The shock bodies are constructed from hard-anodised aluminium, which provides exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion whilst maintaining a lightweight construction that keeps your RC car's unsprung weight to a minimum for optimal handling.
  • PTFE-coated shock bores — The shock bores are coated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), the same material used in high-performance industrial applications, which delivers the slickest damping action available and ensures silky-smooth suspension movement throughout the compression and extension cycles.
  • Titanium-nitride coated shafts — The shock shafts are coated with titanium nitride (TiN), a hard ceramic coating that resists scuffing and wear, increases overall durability, and eliminates "stiction" (static friction), ensuring consistent damping performance and responsive suspension action even after extensive use.
  • Large 13mm bore diameter — The 13mm bores hold over 70% more oil than Traxxas Ultra Shocks, which provides greater damping capacity, smoother suspension travel, and more plush performance over jumps, bumps, and rough terrain.
  • X-ring seals — Advanced X-ring seals keep shock oil securely inside the shock body whilst preventing dirt and debris from entering, maintaining smooth, consistent damping performance and ensuring your suspension performs optimally in muddy, dusty, or wet conditions.
  • Easy spring preload adjustment — The threaded spring collars allow you to adjust spring preload and ride height changes simply by turning the collar, making tuning your RC car's suspension geometry quick and straightforward without requiring specialised tools.
  • Locking spring retainers — The lower spring retainers are held in place with a locking screw, ensuring that your springs remain perfectly positioned and preventing any unwanted movement or shifting during aggressive driving.
  • Fully assembled with springs — All four shocks come completely assembled with springs already installed, meaning you can install them directly onto your RC car without additional assembly or sourcing springs separately.
  • Included shock oil — Each package includes 30-weight pure silicone shock oil, which is essential for proper damping performance and is included as a bonus to get your shocks performing immediately after installation.
  • Professional suspension engineering — These shocks represent professional-grade suspension technology backed by decades of Traxxas engineering expertise, delivering the kind of performance that serious RC competitors and enthusiasts expect.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR shocks are engineered for 1/10 scale RC vehicles and represent a quantum leap forward in suspension technology compared to basic shock designs. The combination of hard-anodised aluminium bodies, PTFE-coated bores, and titanium-nitride coated shafts creates a suspension component that performs with exceptional smoothness and consistency. The 13mm bore diameter is substantially larger than previous Traxxas shock designs, holding more than 70% additional shock oil compared to Ultra Shocks, which translates directly to improved damping characteristics, plush suspension travel, and superior performance over obstacles. The PTFE coating on the bore provides a frictionless surface that allows the internal piston to move with minimal resistance, whilst the titanium-nitride coating on the shaft eliminates stiction — the problematic static friction that can cause jerky or unresponsive suspension movement. The X-ring seals represent another engineering advancement, providing superior sealing capability compared to standard O-rings, which means your shock oil stays inside and contaminants stay out, ensuring consistent performance whether you're driving on tarmac, in mud, over sand, or on rocky trails. The threaded spring collars allow precise tuning of ride height and spring preload, enabling UK RC enthusiasts to dial in their suspension for different driving conditions, track layouts, and personal driving styles. The locking spring retainers prevent any possibility of spring movement or misalignment during hard acceleration, cornering, or landing from jumps. These are not budget shocks — they are precision-engineered suspension components designed and built to Traxxas's exacting standards for performance and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shocks suitable for upgrading my existing RC car? — Yes, absolutely. These GTR shocks are designed as a direct upgrade for 1/10 scale RC vehicles. They will provide a significant improvement in suspension performance, handling, stability, and overall driving experience compared to standard shocks. The threaded collars make installation straightforward, and the included shock oil means you have everything needed to get them working immediately.
  • What makes GTR shocks better than standard RC shocks? — GTR shocks feature hard-anodised aluminium bodies with PTFE-coated bores, titanium-nitride coated shafts, and 13mm bore diameters that hold over 70% more oil than previous Traxxas designs. This results in smoother damping action, more plush suspension travel, improved handling, better stability, and superior performance over jumps and bumps. The advanced sealing with X-rings and the elimination of stiction creates more responsive, consistent suspension performance.
  • Do I need to do anything before using these shocks? — The shocks arrive fully assembled with springs already fitted and shock oil included, so you can install them directly onto your RC car. You may want to adjust the spring preload and ride height using the threaded collars based on your driving conditions and preferences, but they are ready to use straight from the box.
  • Can I adjust the ride height on these shocks? — Yes, the threaded spring collars allow you to make quick and easy adjustments to both spring preload and ride height. Simply turn the collar to adjust the preload and ride height to suit your driving style, track conditions, or terrain. This makes tuning your RC suspension geometry straightforward without requiring specialised tools.
  • What do the extra 2.5x10mm cross shafts do? — The cross shafts (CS) are spare replacement components for the shock internal assemblies. Having these spares means you can quickly repair or rebuild your shocks if needed without having to order replacement parts, which is particularly useful for competitive drivers or those who use their RC cars frequently.
  • Are these shocks waterproof? — The X-ring seals provide exceptional sealing capability that keeps shock oil inside and dirt out, which means these shocks perform well in wet conditions and muddy environments. However, like all shock absorbers, they should not be submerged in water or used in extremely wet conditions for extended periods without proper maintenance.
  • What shock oil weight is included? — The package includes 30-weight pure silicone shock oil. This is a standard weight that works well for general driving conditions. If you want to adjust your suspension stiffness, you can use thicker or thinner shock oil, but the included 30-weight oil is the recommended starting point for most driving situations.
  • How often do I need to service these shocks? — Regular maintenance depends on your usage. The PTFE coating and titanium-nitride shafts resist wear extremely well, but periodic inspection of the seals and oil level is good practice. If you notice any oil leakage or a decrease in damping performance, the shocks may need servicing or rebuilding, which is where those spare 2.5x10mm cross shafts become valuable.
