Overview
Upgrade your RC truck's suspension with the Traxxas Shocks, GTR aluminium, Blue-anodised bodies with TiN shafts (TRX5460A) — a premium suspension solution designed for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're looking to enhance your Revo, E-Revo, Summit, Slayer, or Jato truck with superior damping performance or simply want to add a striking visual upgrade with brilliantly-anodised blue aluminium bodies, these GTR shocks deliver the ultimate in consistency and control lap after lap. These are fully assembled shock bodies without springs, allowing you to customise your setup to match your driving style and terrain requirements.
The GTR shock design represents the pinnacle of RC suspension engineering, featuring precision-machined threaded aluminium bodies paired with titanium-nitride coated shafts that resist scuffing and eliminate the frustrating "stiction" that plagues standard shocks. If you're serious about RC car performance in the UK and want suspension that delivers consistent results across rough terrain, these shocks are the perfect addition to your model.
These shocks come fully assembled and ready to install, though springs are not included — this allows you to select the exact spring setup that matches your driving needs and terrain preferences. A set of four shocks is included, providing complete coverage for your truck's suspension system.
Key Features
- Blue-anodised aluminium shock bodies — The brilliantly-anodised finish not only provides a striking visual upgrade to your RC truck, but the anodisation process also creates a hard, protective coating that resists corrosion and wear from the demanding conditions RC vehicles face during outdoor bashing and racing.
- Titanium-nitride (TiN) coated shafts — These premium shafts resist scuffing and increase durability compared to standard hard-chrome alternatives, eliminating the "stiction" that can cause inconsistent damping action and affect your truck's handling consistency run after run.
- PTFE-coated aluminium bodies — The polytetrafluoroethylene coating applied to the shock bodies provides the slickest damping action available, ensuring smooth suspension movement over the roughest terrain and extending the service life of your shocks.
- Large shock bores — The oversized internal diameter holds more silicone oil than standard shocks, allowing for more consistent dampening characteristics throughout your truck's suspension travel range and in varying weather conditions.
- Volume-compensating bladders — These internal components ensure perfect damping throughout the full travel range of your suspension, maintaining consistent performance whether you're at the top of your shock stroke or fully compressed.
- X-ring seals — These exclusive seals provide better sealing performance than standard O-rings whilst introducing less friction, keeping oil sealed inside and dirt sealed outside for smooth, long-lasting suspension action.
- Vented spring perches — The specially-designed vents help prevent dirt from packing around the X-ring seals, maintaining the seal integrity and suspension performance over extended use and in dusty conditions.
- Oversized spring collar for preload adjustment — The large, threaded collar makes spring preload and ride height changes simple — you can adjust your suspension geometry precisely by hand without special tools, allowing quick setup changes between driving sessions.
- Locking screw on spring retainers — The lower spring retainers feature a locking screw that prevents annoying spring pop-off during intense driving, keeping your suspension secure and your truck's geometry consistent during the roughest runs.
- Fully assembled configuration — These shocks arrive fully assembled and ready to install directly onto your truck, saving you assembly time and getting you back on the track or trail faster.
- Four-shock set — A complete set of four shocks is included, providing matched suspension across all four corners of your truck for balanced handling and performance.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTR shocks represent a significant engineering advancement in RC suspension design, combining premium materials with intelligent damping technology to deliver professional-grade performance. The precision-machined aluminium bodies are threaded to accept the oversized spring collars, allowing precise preload adjustments that let you fine-tune your truck's ride height and suspension characteristics. The titanium-nitride coated shafts are harder and more durable than conventional hard-chrome coatings, resisting the microscopic scuffing that causes "stiction" — the sticking and jerky behaviour that prevents smooth, consistent damping. The PTFE coating on the shock bodies reduces friction between the piston and bore, creating the smoothest damping action available in the RC market. Inside, the volume-compensating bladder system automatically adjusts the internal air pressure as the shock compresses and extends, maintaining consistent damping force throughout the suspension travel. The exclusive X-ring seals use a specially-designed cross-section that provides superior sealing with minimal friction compared to traditional O-rings, critical for maintaining oil retention and consistent performance. These shocks work with the dedicated spring sets available separately (not included in this kit), allowing you to select the exact spring rate that matches your driving weight, driving style, and terrain. The shocks are supplied with silicone damping fluid included in the package, though you may wish to adjust the viscosity or completely change the fluid depending on your terrain and climate conditions in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles are these GTR shocks compatible with? — These shocks are designed as an optional upgrade for Traxxas Revo, E-Revo, Summit, Slayer, and Jato trucks. The anodised aluminium bodies are a direct fit for all GTR shock applications on these models, making them an easy bolt-on upgrade.
- Do these shocks come with springs? — No, these shocks are sold fully assembled without springs, allowing you to select and purchase springs separately that match your specific driving weight, driving style, and terrain conditions. This flexibility lets you optimise your suspension setup exactly as you want it.
- What is the difference between TiN-coated shafts and hard-chrome shafts? — Titanium-nitride (TiN) coating is significantly harder and more durable than hard-chrome coating, providing superior scuff resistance and longer service life. TiN-coated shafts eliminate the "stiction" problem where microscopic imperfections cause jerky, inconsistent damping action, resulting in smoother suspension performance and more predictable truck handling.
- Why do these shocks cost more than standard shocks? — The GTR design incorporates several premium features that justify the investment: PTFE-coated aluminium bodies for the smoothest damping action, large-bore design holding more oil for consistent dampening, titanium-nitride shafts for superior durability, volume-compensating bladders for consistent performance throughout the travel range, and exclusive X-ring seals that seal better with less friction. These features combined deliver professional-grade suspension performance that serious RC enthusiasts expect.
- Can I use these shocks on any Traxxas truck? — No, these shocks are specifically designed for the Revo, E-Revo, Summit, Slayer, and Jato trucks. If your truck uses a different shock platform, you would need the appropriate shock set for your model. Consult your truck's manual or contact us for compatibility confirmation.
- Are these shocks suitable for beginners? — Whilst the shocks themselves are straightforward to install, they are designed for users who have some experience with RC truck setup and maintenance. Beginners can certainly use them, but you'll need to understand how to select appropriate springs, adjust preload, and maintain the shocks. If you're new to RC trucks, we recommend starting with standard shocks and upgrading to GTR shocks once you're comfortable with suspension tuning.
- What type of silicone fluid is included? — Premium-quality silicone shock fluid is included in the package. However, you may wish to use different viscosity fluid depending on your climate conditions and driving terrain — thicker fluid provides more damping (better for rough terrain and wet conditions), whilst thinner fluid allows faster suspension movement (better for smooth tracks and dry conditions).
- How do I adjust the spring preload? — Spring preload adjustment is extremely simple with GTR shocks thanks to the oversized threaded spring collar. Simply turn the collar by hand to compress or extend the preload spring, changing your truck's ride height and suspension stiffness. The large collar provides excellent leverage and control for precise adjustments without requiring special tools.
- What makes the X-ring seals better than standard O-rings? — X-ring seals use a specially-designed cross-sectional shape that provides superior sealing with significantly less friction compared to traditional circular O-ring designs. This means your shocks seal better (keeping oil in and dirt out) whilst moving more smoothly, resulting in more consistent damping performance and extended service life between maintenance intervals.
- Can I service these shocks myself? — Yes, GTR shocks are designed for user maintenance. You can adjust preload, change springs, and replace damping fluid. However, complete disassembly and seal replacement should only be performed if you have experience with shock maintenance, as improper assembly can damage seals and degrade performance.
