Overview

The Traxxas Spring, Shock (Red) (GTR) (3.5 rate Green) (1 pair) TRX5438 represents an essential suspension tuning component for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK. Whether you're running a competitive race setup, weekend bashing through rough terrain, or fine-tuning your RC car for optimal performance, these GTR shock springs deliver the precision and quality you need. Traxxas has engineered these springs with high-quality spring steel and a durable red powder-coated finish, ensuring they withstand the rigours of intense RC driving whilst maintaining consistent performance lap after lap.

If you're looking to upgrade your suspension or replace worn components on your 1/10 scale RC car in the UK, this genuine Traxxas product offers an affordable yet effective way to optimise your vehicle's handling characteristics. Spring rate tuning is one of the most fundamental aspects of RC car setup, and having the right springs available means you can adapt your truck or buggy to different track conditions, weather, and vehicle weight configurations. These springs come as a matched pair, ensuring balanced suspension geometry across both sides of your RC vehicle.

The GTR spring range from Traxxas is recognised across the RC community for delivering repeatable, predictable handling improvements. The 3.5-rate green stripe designation is colour-coded for easy identification, making it simple to track which springs are installed on your vehicle and ensuring you maintain consistency in your setup. Whether you're a seasoned competitor optimising for track dominance or a weekend basher looking to improve comfort and control, these suspension components represent a worthwhile investment in your RC car UK experience.

Key Features

  • High-quality spring steel construction — Manufactured from premium spring steel, these components are engineered to maintain their rate consistency and durability through thousands of suspension cycles, ensuring your RC car handles predictably whether you're racing competitively or enjoying casual bashing sessions.
  • Durable red powder-coated finish — The protective powder coating resists corrosion, UV damage, and the wear that comes from regular use in outdoor RC environments across the UK, helping your springs maintain their appearance and structural integrity for years of reliable performance.
  • 3.5-rate green stripe specification — This specific rate is ideal for many 1/10 scale vehicles and provides a balanced compromise between comfort and responsiveness, offering good traction without excessive harshness or excessive compliance that could compromise handling precision.
  • Colour-coded identification system — The green stripe indicator makes it immediately obvious which spring rate is installed, eliminating confusion during setup changes and helping you maintain consistent documentation of your suspension tuning across multiple vehicles or track conditions.
  • Precision suspension tuning capability — These springs are offered as part of Traxxas's comprehensive GTR spring range, allowing you to compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations and precisely tune your suspension performance to match your specific driving style and track requirements.
  • Sold as matched pair — Receiving both springs together ensures perfect symmetry in your suspension setup, which is critical for balanced handling characteristics and predictable vehicle behaviour on the track or trail.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR shock springs represent a crucial component in your RC car's suspension system, directly influencing how your vehicle responds to bumps, maintains traction, and handles cornering forces. At 3.5 rate with the green stripe designation, these springs offer a carefully calibrated stiffness that Traxxas has tuned through extensive engineering and real-world racing experience. The spring rate indicates the force required to compress the spring by one inch—the higher the rate number, the stiffer and more resistant to compression the spring becomes. A 3.5-rate spring falls in the mid-range category, making it suitable for a wide variety of 1/10 scale RC vehicles including buggies, trucks, and short-course platforms. The high-quality spring steel used in construction maintains its rate accuracy and doesn't lose its temper or fatigue prematurely, even under the demanding conditions of competitive racing or aggressive bashing. The durable red powder-coated finish provides genuine protection beyond mere aesthetics—it guards against moisture ingress, corrosion from salt water or humid environments common in the UK, and UV degradation from extended outdoor use. These springs are engineered to work seamlessly with GTR shock bodies and follow Traxxas's established suspension geometry standards, ensuring they integrate perfectly with your existing setup without requiring modifications or adaptations.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 3.5-rate specification mean for my RC car? — Spring rate measures how much force is needed to compress a spring by one inch. A 3.5-rate spring is medium stiffness, making it versatile for various 1/10 scale vehicles. Higher rates make suspension stiffer and less compliant; lower rates allow more suspension travel and better absorption of bumps. The 3.5 rate offers a balanced compromise suitable for most drivers seeking reliable handling across different track surfaces.
  • Why are these springs colour-coded with a green stripe? — Traxxas uses colour-coded stripes to identify spring rates at a glance, allowing you to quickly see which springs are installed on your vehicle without needing to measure or reference documentation. Green stripe indicates the 3.5-rate specification, making setup organisation and consistency tracking simple for anyone running multiple RC cars or frequently changing suspension components.
  • How do I know if I need a different spring rate? — If your RC car feels too harsh and bouncy, you may need a softer (lower rate) spring. If it feels wallowy with excessive body roll and insufficient responsiveness, a stiffer (higher rate) spring could help. Lighter vehicles often benefit from softer springs, whilst heavier platforms or drivers seeking crisper handling might prefer stiffer rates. Traxxas offers the full GTR spring range to support this tuning flexibility.
  • Will these springs work with my specific RC vehicle? — These GTR springs are designed for Traxxas 1/10 scale vehicles equipped with GTR shock bodies. Confirm your vehicle uses GTR shocks before purchasing. GTR shocks are found on many Traxxas platforms, but some older models or competing brands may use different shock systems that require alternative springs.
  • What makes the red powder-coated finish important? — The powder coating provides genuine corrosion protection, UV resistance, and durability against the elements encountered during outdoor RC driving in the UK. This protective layer helps your springs maintain their appearance and structural integrity through extended use, rain exposure, and direct sunlight, contributing to long-term reliability.
  • Can I mix different spring rates on the same vehicle? — Whilst possible, it's not recommended for optimal handling. Mismatched spring rates front and rear will create imbalanced suspension geometry, affecting how the vehicle turns, accelerates, and handles bumps. For best results, keep matched pairs of the same rate at each axle, adjusting the rate across both springs when you want to change your setup's characteristics.
  • How often should I replace my GTR springs? — Under normal use, quality springs like these Traxxas components maintain their rate consistency for extended periods. However, if you notice your suspension becoming excessively soft, your vehicle's ride height dropping noticeably, or handling becoming unpredictable, springs may have fatigued and replacement becomes worthwhile. Regular inspection during routine maintenance helps identify springs that need replacement.
