Overview

The Traxxas Spring, Shock (White) (GTR) (Rear) (1.0 Rate Tan) (1 pair) TRX5429 is an essential suspension upgrade component for Traxxas Revo owners and enthusiasts seeking to fine-tune their RC monster truck's handling characteristics. These rear shock springs are precision-engineered to work in perfect harmony with Traxxas's advanced GTR shock absorber system, which features unique rocker arm geometry designed to deliver progressive suspension rates as the chassis is compressed. Whether you're racing competitively at your local RC track, bashing across rough terrain, or dialling in the perfect setup for your specific driving conditions, having the correct spring rate is absolutely critical to achieving optimal performance from your RC vehicle in the UK and beyond.

Traxxas offers an impressive range of 11 different spring pairs to suit virtually any track surface and driving style, and the tan-coloured 1.0 rate springs included in this package represent one of the softer options in the lineup. These springs are particularly well-suited for rough terrain and extreme conditions where maximum suspension compliance is needed. The white powder-coated finish not only looks fantastic on your truck but also provides excellent durability and corrosion resistance. As an authorised Traxxas stockist, RC Model Shop supplies only genuine Traxxas components, ensuring you receive springs manufactured to the exacting standards that have made Traxxas the world's leading RC brand.

Spring selection is one of the most fundamental tuning adjustments you can make to your RC monster truck, and understanding how to match the correct spring rate to your driving conditions is key to unlocking your truck's full potential. The GTR shock system's progressive design means that as suspension travel increases, the effective spring rate becomes progressively stiffer, providing both compliance over initial bumps and resistance to bottoming out under extreme compression. This makes spring choice even more critical than on traditional suspension systems, and switching between the 11 available Traxxas spring rates allows you to compensate for vehicle weight, track surface conditions, and your personal driving preferences.

Key Features

  • High-quality spring steel construction — These springs are manufactured from premium-grade spring steel that provides consistent spring rates and exceptional durability through countless cycles of compression and extension, ensuring reliable performance whether you're racing or bashing.
  • Powder-coated white finish — The durable powder coating protects the spring steel from corrosion and weathering whilst providing an attractive appearance that complements the Traxxas Revo's chassis and body.
  • Colour-coded identification (tan dot) — Each spring pair features a distinctive tan-coloured dot on the end that instantly identifies the 1.0 rate specification, making it easy to ensure you have the correct springs installed and preventing mix-ups during setup changes.
  • Matched pair design — This package includes one complete pair of springs, meaning both rear shocks receive springs with perfectly matched rates for balanced and predictable handling characteristics.
  • 1.0 rate specification — The 1.0 rate represents a softer spring option that is particularly effective on rough, bumpy tracks and extreme off-road surfaces where maximum suspension travel and compliance is required.
  • Compatibility with GTR shock system — These springs are specifically engineered to work with Traxxas's advanced GTR shock absorbers, which feature aluminium bodies, threaded pre-load adjustment capabilities, x-ring seals, and optional PTFE-coated hard-anodised dampers with titanium nitride coated shafts.
  • Progressive rate integration — The springs work in concert with the unique rocker arm geometry of the Revo suspension system, which is designed with different geometries across the P1, P2, P3, and long-travel rocker sets to adjust the progressive rate feel of the suspension as it compresses.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR shock system represents some of the most advanced suspension engineering in the RC industry, and these tan 1.0 rate springs are a critical component of that system. The Revo's suspension geometry is fundamentally different from traditional suspension designs, incorporating rocker arms with carefully calculated progressive curves that change how stiff the suspension feels as it compresses. The 90mm travel rocker sets were specifically designed to increase the progressive rate felt at the wheel, meaning the suspension starts soft for initial bump absorption but gets progressively stiffer as travel increases. This prevents bottoming out whilst maintaining that plush, compliant feel that allows the truck to maintain traction over rough and jagged surfaces. According to Traxxas's comprehensive performance setup guide developed through extensive track testing, when running softer springs like these 1.0 rate tans, you typically pair them with lighter viscosity shock oils; specifically, if you're running standard P2 rockers (which represent the most well-rounded rocker set for most racing conditions), you'd typically use 40-50wt shock oil with these softer springs. The spring steel used throughout Traxxas's spring lineup is sourced from premium suppliers and processed to maintain consistent tension and durability across thousands of compression cycles. The powder-coated finish provides protection against rust and corrosion, which is particularly important if you're racing in wet conditions or using your RC monster truck in damp British weather. The matching pair ensures that both rear shocks compress and extend at identical rates, preventing uneven weight distribution and maintaining the truck's balance through corners and over obstacles. The threaded pre-load adjustment collars on the GTR shocks allow for fine-tuning of ride height without changing the spring's damping force or progressive rate characteristics, giving you additional setup flexibility beyond simple spring selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 1.0 rate specification mean? — Spring rate refers to how much force is required to compress the spring by a given distance. The 1.0 rate represents one of the softer options in Traxxas's 11-spring lineup, making it ideal for rough, bumpy terrain where maximum suspension compliance and travel is needed. Traxxas's performance guide notes that softer springs should be paired with proportionally lighter shock oil viscosity to prevent the suspension from becoming under-damped.
  • Are these springs compatible with all Traxxas Revo models? — These springs are specifically designed for the Traxxas Revo and work with the GTR shock system. The Revo's unique suspension geometry requires proper spring selection, as the truck requires approximately 20% stiffer springs in the rear compared to the front to maintain balanced handling due to the rocker arm design. Always verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
  • What shock oil viscosity should I use with these softer springs? — According to Traxxas's setup guide, when running softer springs with standard P2 rockers, you should typically use 40-50wt shock oil as a base starting point. If you're using P1 rockers (designed for rough terrain), start with 60wt oil, and for P3 rockers (designed for smooth, high-bite tracks), use 40wt oil. These are base settings and may need adjustment depending on track conditions and ambient temperature.
  • How do I know which spring rate I need for my truck? — Traxxas provides a comprehensive spring chart to guide selection. The tan 1.0 rate springs are suitable for very rough tracks and extreme off-road conditions. For most racing applications and mixed conditions, orange springs (front) and gold springs (rear) are recommended as they're one step firmer than stock. For smoother, higher-bite tracks, consider firmer spring rates. Vehicle weight also affects spring selection; lighter trucks may benefit from slightly firmer springs even on rough surfaces.
  • Can I use different spring rates front and rear? — Yes, the Revo allows independent front and rear spring selection. However, it's important to note that due to the rocker arm design, the Revo requires approximately 20% stiffer springs in the rear than the front to maintain balanced suspension behaviour. Traxxas's setup guide recommends adjusting shock oil viscosity by approximately 5-10wt up or down for each rate level change in spring selection to prevent over-sprung or under-damped conditions.
  • What is the difference between the various rocker sets available? — The Revo features four different rocker set options (P1, P2, P3, and long-travel), each with different progressive rate geometries. P1 rockers are best for extremely rough terrain with rocks, curbs, and uneven surfaces. P2 rockers (the most popular) combine quick response with rough terrain capability for most racing conditions. P3 rockers are designed for smooth tracks with smaller jumps and tight turns. Long-travel rockers offer maximum suspension compliance for extreme bashing but lack progressive bump handling and can feel sluggish in corners.
  • How do shock pistons affect performance with these springs? — The GTR shocks use three different pistons (1, 2, and 3) with progressively smaller bypass holes. Smaller holes provide more damping and slower suspension action. Stock configuration uses #1 pistons (large holes) in front and #2 pistons (medium holes) in rear. The #3 piston with smaller holes is better suited for heavier spring rates. When switching spring rates, you may want to adjust pistons to maintain the correct damping balance with your new springs.
  • Why is proper ride height important? — Ride height affects how the rocker arm sits within its progressive rate range during normal driving. According to Traxxas guidance, you should set ride height so the lower suspension arms are level with the track surface as a starting point. Lower ride heights suit smoother terrain, while rougher terrain requires higher stance. Ride height is adjusted using the threaded pre-load collars on the shocks and can be fine-tuned without changing the spring rate or shock oil viscosity.
  • How do I properly fill and maintain these springs? — These springs are passive suspension components and don't require filling like shock bodies. However, proper maintenance includes regular inspection for corrosion or damage to the powder coating, especially if you're racing in wet conditions. Keep the springs clean and dry when storing your truck. When installing, ensure they seat properly in the shock towers and that all retaining hardware is secure.
  • What track conditions are best suited for 1.0 rate springs? — The 1.0 tan rate springs are ideal for very rough, technical tracks with jagged surfaces, rocks, branches, and uneven terrain. They're also well-suited for extreme off-road bashing and rock crawling applications where maximum suspension compliance is desired. For most competitive racing conditions, Traxxas recommends one step firmer (such as the orange/gold combination), but individual preference and vehicle weight may vary.
