Technical Performance
The RadioLink T8FB delivers impressive technical performance wrapped in a compact, lightweight package. The transmitter measures 173mm (length) × 102mm (width) × 206mm (height) with a total weight of just 363 grams for the unit itself (470 grams with packaging), making it portable yet substantial enough to feel quality in hand. The 2.4GHz FHSS technology operates across 67 channels with GFSK modulation and 400kHz bandwidth, using 2400.0MHz to 2483.5MHz frequency allocation within the ISM band. The RF power output exceeds 36dBm (approximately 4 watts), providing the range and penetration needed for reliable control at competition events and large flying fields throughout the UK. Operating voltage flexibility from 4.8V to 18.0V accommodates everything from four AA alkaline batteries to high-capacity 4S LiPo batteries, with automatic voltage detection and customisable low-voltage alarm (adjustable for 2S, 3S or 4S chemistry). The battery tray dimensions of 114.5mm × 35.5mm × 24mm accommodate standard AA batteries or compact LiPo packs. Current draw of less than 80mA ±5mA during operation ensures exceptional runtime — a fresh set of AA batteries will provide many hours of control without depletion. The inclusion of two R8EF receivers means you're receiving genuine RadioLink receivers engineered to match the T8FB's transmitter specifications, with both PWM (8 channels via separate pins) and SBUS/PPM output modes selectable via simple button press on the receiver itself. The R8EF receivers feature red LED indication in PWM mode and blue/purple LED in SBUS/PPM mode, providing clear visual feedback of operating status. Both receivers support the full 8-channel signal output, allowing complex model configurations with up to 8 proportional or discrete control functions. RadioLink radio control systems are not open-source, meaning T8FB transmitters are compatible exclusively with RadioLink receivers, ensuring reliable, optimised communication between transmitter and receiver with no compatibility concerns. The build quality reflects RadioLink's established reputation in the UK — the metal carry handle and plastics show solid engineering, whilst the control stick mechanisms provide smooth, responsive feel without excessive play.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the RadioLink T8FB suitable for complete beginners to RC? — Yes, absolutely. The T8FB is described by RadioLink as suitable for beginners whilst remaining sophisticated enough for experienced users. The smartphone app programming removes the barrier to entry compared to older radio systems requiring PC configuration. The transmitter provides sensible defaults for different model types (fixed-wing, multirotor, car, boat), meaning beginners can be flying or driving within minutes of unboxing. The two included receivers allow you to set up two different models simultaneously, giving you immediate value without additional expense. However, this product is not suitable for children under 14 years old; adult supervision is essential.
- What batteries does the T8FB transmitter require, and how long does one charge last? — The T8FB accepts four AA alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries, or 2S/3S/4S LiPo batteries in the supplied 114.5mm × 35.5mm × 24mm battery tray. RadioLink's voltage detection automatically recognises battery chemistry and sets the low-voltage alarm accordingly. With operating current below 80mA at maximum load, a fresh set of AA batteries typically provides 10-15 hours of continuous control operation, though most users will find they need to change transmitter batteries long after their receiver and model batteries are exhausted. The transmitter will emit continuous D-tones when voltage drops below the alarm threshold, providing clear warning to land/retrieve your model safely.
- What is the actual control range of the T8FB, and is it suitable for large flying fields? — RadioLink specifies 2 kilometres (1.24 miles) control range in the air, which is more than sufficient for legitimate RC flying or driving at large UK flying fields, racing circuits and open areas. The FHSS frequency-hopping technology provides secure communication even in areas with significant RF interference from WiFi, mobile networks and other 2.4GHz devices. The RF power output exceeding 36dBm ensures signal penetration through obstacles. For optimal range, keep the transmitter antennae as straight as possible and avoid bending them excessively. If your model contains significant metal parts that interfere with signal transmission (common on large scale models and vehicles), position the model's antenna at multiple angles rather than a single orientation.
- Can I programme the T8FB using my smartphone, or do I need a computer? — Both options are available. The T8FB includes a USB port allowing connection to your Android or Apple smartphone via an OTG cable (sold separately) or Type-C adapter, using the free RadioLink app downloaded from their website. The app provides all the programming features you need for standard setups — servo reverse, trim, end-point, mixing, failsafe and model memory. For detailed programming or firmware updates, you can alternatively connect the T8FB to a Windows PC or Mac using the provided USB data cable and download the computer software from RadioLink's website. The software requires USB drivers (provided) and connection settings of COM port, 115200 baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity check. Firmware updates are available periodically from RadioLink's website.
- How do I bind the R8EF receivers to the T8FB transmitter? — Binding is straightforward: (1) Position the transmitter and receiver approximately 50 centimetres apart. (2) Power on both the T8FB and R8EF receiver. The red LED on the receiver will flash slowly. (3) Press the black ID SET binding button on the side of the receiver for more than 1 second and release. The LED will flash faster, indicating binding is in progress. (4) When the LED stops flashing and remains constantly on, binding is complete. If binding fails, the LED will continue flashing slowly; repeat the process. Once bound, you can operate your model at full range. RadioLink transmitters are only compatible with RadioLink receivers; you cannot mix them with other brands.
- What signal output options do the R8EF receivers support, and how do I switch between them? — The R8EF receivers support three signal output modes: (1) PWM signal output (8 individual servo channels on separate pins) indicated by red LED; (2) SBUS/PPM mixed output (channel 1 is SBUS, channel 2 is PPM, channels 3-8 are PWM) indicated by blue/purple LED. To switch between modes, briefly press the binding button twice within 1 second. Red LED alone = PWM mode. Red and blue/purple LEDs together = SBUS/PPM/PWM hybrid mode. This flexibility means the T8FB works with virtually any RC model from traditional servo-based aircraft to modern quadcopters using SBUS-compatible flight controllers.
- Are there any weather considerations when operating the T8FB? — RadioLink advises never operating your RC model during adverse weather conditions, particularly poor visibility which can cause disorientation and loss of control. Water or moisture can enter the transmitter through gaps around the antenna or joystick mechanisms, potentially causing instability or complete loss of control. If you must operate in wet conditions (such as during competitive events in light rain), cover the transmitter with a plastic bag or waterproof cloth. The included R8EF receivers should also be protected from moisture and kept in well-sealed plastic bags during storage to prevent humidity and dust ingress. Never use this transmitter in crowds or in illegal areas; always comply strictly with local RC operation regulations.
- What compatible receivers can I use if I decide to expand my system beyond the two included R8EF units? — The T8FB is compatible with a full range of RadioLink receivers: R4F (4-channel), R4FGM (4-channel), R6F (6-channel), R6FG (6-channel), R7FG (7-channel), R8F (8-channel), R8FM (8-channel mini S-Bus), R8EF (8-channel, supplied with your kit), and R8SM (8-channel). The R8FM mini S-Bus receiver is particularly popular for applications where space is limited, such as indoor quadcopters or small-scale models. Each receiver variant supports appropriate signal output modes, allowing you to match the receiver to your specific model requirements. RadioLink receivers maintain the same binding process and compatibility across the entire range.
- Can I use the T8FB as a trainer transmitter with a buddy box setup? — Yes, with the optional R8FM module, the T8FB supports wireless trainer link capability, allowing an experienced RC pilot (master transmitter) to take control of a student's T8FB transmitter (slave) when needed, then return control to the student. This is particularly useful when teaching RC flying or driving skills. The R8FM module is sold separately and provides the necessary functionality for trainer mode operations.
- What mixing capabilities does the T8FB offer for advanced model setups? — Standard programming features include: servo reverse (channel-by-channel direction selection), sub-trim (fine centre point adjustment), end-point (maximum throw adjustment per channel), failsafe (programmed servo position if signal is lost), delay (graduated response timing), transmitter alarm (battery warning), programmable mixing (custom combinations of channels), V-tail mix (for V-tail aircraft configurations), elevon mix (for flying wing elevon control), and dual rate (switchable high/low control sensitivity). These functions cover the vast majority of RC model configurations from conventional aircraft through flying wings to quadcopters and even vehicles with mixed control systems.
- How do I ensure the best antenna performance and range from my R8EF receivers? — RadioLink provides specific guidance: keep receiver antennae as straight as possible, as bending reduces effective control range. Position antennae at least half an inch (approximately 12mm) away from metal conductors and carbon fibre materials, which absorb RF signals. If your model contains significant metal parts (scale aircraft, large RC cars, boats with steel structures), consider positioning antennae at different angles or locations on the model rather than a single orientation, ensuring signal reception from all flight or driving attitudes. Keep antennae away from motors, ESCs and other high-current-switching devices that generate RF interference. Use foam or rubber vibration-damping material when installing the receiver, as the R8EF contains high-precision electronic components susceptible to mechanical shock and vibration damage. Store receivers in well-sealed plastic bags to prevent humidity and dust ingress, which can cause control instability or complete failure.
- What is the difference between the T8FB and other entry-level RC transmitters? — The T8FB distinguishes itself through several key advantages: the inclusion of two complete receivers (most competitors sell transmitter-only or one receiver), the FHSS frequency-hopping technology providing superior interference rejection, smartphone app programming eliminating the need for specialised computer software, infinite model memory capacity, compatibility with a wide range of RadioLink receivers allowing system scaling, low-voltage battery alarm with customisable threshold, and proven reliability through established UK customer base. The combination of value, features and included accessories makes the T8FB genuinely exceptional in its price bracket.
