Overview

The RPM Traxxas X-Maxx Shock Shaft Guards in black are essential protective upgrades for anyone serious about maintaining their RC monster truck's suspension performance. Designed specifically for the Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shock system, these guards are engineered to shield your shock shafts from the relentless punishment of rocks, dirt and debris that accumulates during aggressive off-road RC driving. Whether you're bashing through the countryside or competing at your local RC track, shock shaft damage is one of the most common causes of suspension failure, and these guards provide simple, effective protection that every X-Maxx owner should consider.

Rocks, dirt and debris striking your shock shafts lead to dents, dings and burrs, which in turn lead to torn shock seals. Torn shock seals mean leaky shocks and poor shock performance, ultimately requiring expensive seal replacement and shock rebuilds. The RPM Shock Shaft Guards shield the shock shaft from these deteriorating elements, prolonging the life of the shock shaft, which improves the long-term performance of the suspension and in turn, prolongs the time between seal replacement and shock rebuilds. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to protect their investment and reduce maintenance costs, these guards represent genuine value for money.

What makes these guards different from simple aftermarket modifications is their engineering approach. RPM has taken the stock shock spring cups and added mounting holes for a thin but tough shield that rises up to the base of the shock body, creating a protective barrier that completely blocks debris from striking the shock shaft. The design philosophy emphasises simplicity and effectiveness—this is a straightforward replacement part that integrates seamlessly with your existing X-Maxx setup.

Key Features

  • Over 100° of frontal protection — The front shield of the guard covers more than 100° of frontal exposure, meaning rocks thrown from the front tyres or from competing vehicles during group racing won't ever hit your shock shafts, providing comprehensive defence against the most common sources of shaft damage.
  • Zero friction protection devices — RPM Shock Shaft Guards never touch the working elements of the shocks, meaning they provide passive protection without creating any resistance or friction that could affect shock performance, damping characteristics or responsiveness during compression and extension cycles.
  • Open back and sides design — The back and sides of the guards are deliberately left open to prevent debris from building inside the guard, ensuring that even if dirt enters the guard area, it won't accumulate and cause additional problems or require constant cleaning.
  • Increased spring cup support — RPM increased the length of the tubular spring support of the spring cup by nearly 2mm (5/64 inch), helping prevent the spring from jumping off the spring perch when conditions are less than ideal, such as during extreme compression or high-speed impacts.
  • Stock replacement design — These guards replace the Traxxas #7764 spring cups only, making installation straightforward for anyone familiar with basic X-Maxx maintenance, as no additional modification or specialist tools are required.
  • Sold in pairs — Each package contains guards for one axle, and two packages will be needed to complete full-vehicle protection for both front and rear suspension on your X-Maxx.
  • Fits stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shocks — These guards are precisely engineered for the stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shock system, fitting Traxxas part numbers #7761, #7761A, #7761G and #7761R without any modification required.

Technical Performance

The RPM Shock Shaft Guards represent a carefully engineered approach to suspension protection that balances defence against damage with maintaining the performance characteristics of your X-Maxx's suspension system. Constructed from tough, durable materials, the shields are thin enough to minimise added weight whilst remaining robust enough to withstand repeated impacts from rocks and debris encountered during aggressive off-road RC driving. The engineering approach ensures that protection is achieved without introducing friction or resistance to the shock's compression and extension cycles—a critical consideration that separates these guards from poorly designed alternatives that can actually degrade suspension performance. The increased tubular spring support length (approximately 2mm additional length) addresses a common real-world problem where springs can jump off their perches during extreme suspension compression or high-impact scenarios. The 100+ degree frontal coverage angle is geometrically optimised to intercept the majority of debris trajectories thrown from the front tyres or from competing vehicles, which are the primary sources of shock shaft damage during typical RC driving scenarios. These guards integrate seamlessly with the stock X-Maxx GTX shock system, requiring no modifications, cutting, welding or specialist installation procedures—they simply replace the existing spring cups and are secured in the same manner as the original components.

What's in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will these shock shaft guards fit my Traxxas X-Maxx? — Yes, these RPM Shock Shaft Guards fit stock Traxxas X-Maxx GTX shocks exclusively. They are designed for Traxxas part numbers #7761, #7761A, #7761G and #7761R. They have not been tested or guaranteed to fit any other shocks designed for the X-Maxx platform, so please verify your shock part number before purchasing.
  • Do these guards affect shock performance? — No, RPM Shock Shaft Guards are zero friction protection devices, meaning they never touch the working elements of your shocks. They provide passive, non-contact protection that shields debris from the shaft without creating any resistance, friction or performance degradation to the suspension's damping, compression or extension characteristics.
  • How much frontal protection do these guards provide? — The front shield provides over 100 degrees of frontal exposure protection, which covers the primary angles from which rocks and debris are thrown from front tyres or other vehicles. The back and sides are open to prevent debris accumulation inside the guard.
  • How many pairs do I need for my X-Maxx? — Each package contains a pair of guards for one axle. Two packages of RPM Shock Shaft Guards will be needed to provide protection for both the front and rear suspension of a complete X-Maxx vehicle.
  • What shocks do these guards replace? — RPM Shock Shaft Guards replace Traxxas #7764 spring cups. They are installed by removing your existing spring cups and fitting these guards in their place using the same mounting holes and fastening method.
  • Why do I need shock shaft guards? — Rocks, dirt and debris striking your shock shafts cause dents, dings and burrs that lead to torn shock seals, resulting in leaky shocks and poor suspension performance. These guards prevent shaft damage, prolong shock life, improve long-term suspension performance and reduce the frequency of seal replacement and complete shock rebuilds.
  • Is there any additional spring support feature? — Yes, RPM increased the tubular spring support length by nearly 2mm (5/64 inch) compared to stock spring cups. This added length helps prevent the spring from jumping off the spring perch during extreme compression or less-than-ideal driving conditions.
