Overview
The Axial Rear Links, Upper/Lower, Steel (Z-AXI-2222) are precision-engineered suspension components designed for the Axial AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4×4 trail buggy. These steel rear links are essential suspension upgrade parts that deliver improved durability and performance for RC enthusiasts building or maintaining their trail buggies. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to optimise your suspension geometry or a weekend basher seeking reliable replacement parts, these steel rear links offer the strength and reliability needed for demanding off-road conditions. As an authorised Axial retailer, RC Model Shop supplies genuine OEM parts that meet factory specifications, ensuring your RC car UK setup performs exactly as intended.
Steel construction provides superior durability compared to plastic alternatives, making these links ideal for builders who want to upgrade their suspension system or replace worn components. The Axial rear link design has been proven in competition-grade monster trucks and trail buggies, offering geometry that has been validated by top RC racers and enthusiasts. These links work in conjunction with upper and lower mounting points to control suspension articulation, manage weight transfer during acceleration and braking, and maintain consistent handling characteristics across varied terrain. For anyone serious about RC buggy performance, quality suspension linkage is non-negotiable.
RC Model Shop stocks genuine Axial spares and tune-ups, backed by expert knowledge and customer support. Whether you're building a custom trail buggy, upgrading an existing platform, or simply maintaining your RC vehicle, these steel rear links represent a worthwhile investment in performance and longevity. The compatibility with the Axial AXP8 platform makes them a direct fit replacement or upgrade option for builders following established suspension designs used in competitive RC racing.
Key Features
- Steel Construction — Manufactured from steel rather than plastic, these rear links provide significantly enhanced durability and strength, making them ideal for high-performance applications where suspension components endure constant stress and impact loads during off-road driving.
- Upper and Lower Configuration — The complete upper and lower rear link set allows for proper suspension geometry and control, ensuring that your RC buggy maintains consistent handling and weight distribution throughout the suspension travel range.
- Direct Fit for Axial AXP8 — Engineered specifically for the Axial 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4×4 RTR, these links integrate seamlessly with the platform's suspension design without requiring modifications or custom fabrication.
- Proven Competition Geometry — The design is based on suspension geometry validated by professional RC racers, meaning the link length, mounting angles, and articulation characteristics have been tested at the highest levels of competitive RC motorsport.
- Replacement and Upgrade Option — Whether you're replacing damaged or worn suspension links or upgrading from standard components, these steel links offer improved performance, longevity and handling consistency for trail buggies used in demanding conditions.
Technical Performance
The Axial Rear Links, Upper/Lower, Steel represent a critical suspension upgrade for 1/8 scale trail buggies seeking enhanced durability and performance. Steel construction ensures these components can withstand the rigorous demands of competitive off-road driving, including hard landings, aggressive cornering and sustained high-speed running. The upper and lower link configuration works in concert with shock absorbers and mounting points to control suspension geometry, manage anti-squat and anti-dive characteristics, and maintain optimal weight distribution. In competitive builds such as the Axial-based solid axle monster trucks documented by leading RC racers, suspension link design plays a crucial role in managing torque twist, improving traction and achieving race-ready handling. The material choice—steel over plastic—directly impacts durability under repeated impact and stress cycles that occur during competitive trail buggy operation. These links are designed to pair with Axial shock bushings, mounting hardware and other suspension components, creating a cohesive suspension system engineered for consistent performance. For builders upgrading from standard components or replacing worn parts on an existing AXP8 platform, these steel rear links deliver the structural integrity and geometric precision required for competitive-grade RC trail buggy setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these rear links compatible with my Axial AXP8 trail buggy? — Yes, the Z-AXI-2222 steel rear links are specifically designed for the Axial 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4×4 RTR Brushed Trail Buggy, available in both green and red colour variants. They are a direct fit replacement and upgrade option for the suspension system on these models.
- Why choose steel rear links over plastic alternatives? — Steel construction provides significantly superior durability and longevity compared to plastic suspension components. Steel links resist impact damage better, maintain their shape under load, and last longer when subjected to the stress and repeated impacts inherent in off-road trail buggy driving and racing applications.
- Will upgrading to steel rear links improve my trail buggy's handling? — Steel rear links improve consistency and durability rather than dramatically altering handling characteristics. However, the added structural rigidity does contribute to more predictable suspension behaviour and weight transfer, which can result in improved confidence and control, particularly during competitive racing where suspension consistency matters.
- What other suspension components do I need to upgrade at the same time? — The rear links are part of a complete suspension system. Depending on your setup, you may want to consider upgrading shock bushings, mounting hardware, shock absorbers and anti-roll bar components for an integrated high-performance suspension package. Consult your AXP8 manual or visit RC Model Shop for advice on building a complete suspension upgrade.
- How difficult is it to install these steel rear links? — Installation requires basic RC mechanical knowledge and hand tools. The links mount using standard RC hardware at upper and lower suspension pickup points on the chassis and axles. If you are comfortable performing routine RC maintenance, installation is straightforward. RC Model Shop staff are available to answer specific questions about fitment and installation.
