Overview
The ARRMA Pinion Gear 17T MOD 0.5 CNC 3.2mm Bore is a precision-engineered replacement component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand reliable performance from their brushless RC vehicles. Whether you own an ARRMA 1/16 Mini Kraton, 1/16 MOJAVE GROM, or 1/14 TYPHON GROM, this pinion gear is an essential spare part that ensures your RC car UK setup continues to perform at its best. Built from tough, hardened steel, this gear is engineered to withstand the extreme demands of high-performance RC driving, whether you're bashing around the garden, competing on the track, or pushing your ready to run RC vehicle to its limits.
Pinion gears are a critical component in the drivetrain of any brushless RC car, and choosing the right tooth count is essential for balancing acceleration and top speed. The 17-tooth configuration of this MOD 0.5 gear offers an excellent middle ground for drivers seeking responsive acceleration without sacrificing overall top-end speed capability. With precision CNC manufacturing and a 3.2mm bore designed specifically for common motor shafts, this pinion gear integrates seamlessly into ARRMA's ecosystem of high-quality RC components, making it an ideal choice for replacement or performance tuning on your brushless RC buggy or monster truck.
RC Model Shop stocks genuine ARRMA parts, and this pinion gear represents the kind of OEM-quality spare component that serious RC enthusiasts keep in their pit box. Whether you need a direct replacement after wear, or you're experimenting with different gear ratios to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics, the ARRMA Pinion Gear 17T MOD 0.5 CNC 3.2mm Bore is a trusted component backed by ARRMA's reputation for engineering excellence in the RC hobby industry.
Key Features
- Precision CNC Manufactured — Every tooth profile is machined to exacting tolerances using computer numerical control, ensuring consistent, smooth engagement with your spur gear and eliminating slack or binding that could compromise performance or cause drivetrain noise during high-speed runs.
- High-Quality Steel Construction — The gear is forged from tough, hardened steel that resists wear, stripping, and damage even under the extreme stresses of brushless motor power and aggressive driving, providing longevity and reliability in demanding RC conditions.
- Precision Manufactured Set Screw Hole — The M3 x 4mm set screw hole is precision-drilled to ensure the gear locks firmly and securely onto your motor shaft without slipping, a critical requirement for consistent power delivery and reliability.
- 3.2mm Bore Compatibility — The 3.2mm bore diameter is the industry-standard size for the majority of brushless RC motors used in modern ARRMA vehicles, ensuring a perfect fit with no shimming or modification required.
- 17-Tooth Configuration — The 17-tooth design provides an optimal balance between low-end torque and mid-to-high-speed capability, making it versatile for both track racing and weekend bashing with your brushless RC truck or buggy.
- MOD 0.5 Pitch Standard — This gear uses the MOD 0.5 (modulus) pitch specification, which is the standard across ARRMA's range, ensuring compatibility with OEM spur gears and other drivetrain components without the need for custom modifications.
- Includes Replacement Set Screw — Each pinion gear comes with one M3 x 4mm stainless steel set screw, so you have everything needed for installation without hunting for the correct fastener.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA Pinion Gear 17T MOD 0.5 CNC 3.2mm Bore represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC drivetrain components. With 17 teeth operating at MOD 0.5 pitch, this gear is specifically designed to work in harmony with the spur gear arrangement found in ARRMA's brushless vehicles such as the 1/16 Mini Kraton, 1/16 MOJAVE GROM, and 1/14 TYPHON GROM models. The gear ratio created by pairing this 17-tooth pinion with a spur gear determines your vehicle's acceleration curve and top speed — choosing a 17-tooth pinion instead of the larger 18-tooth provides slightly more aggressive acceleration at the cost of reduced absolute top speed, making it ideal for tight, technical tracks or drivers who prefer responsive, snappy throttle response. The CNC machining process ensures that every tooth is cut with laser-like precision, eliminating manufacturing tolerances that could introduce play or noise into your drivetrain. The hardened steel construction means this pinion will maintain its tooth profile through thousands of acceleration cycles, whether you're running a brushless motor powered by a 3S LiPo battery on a casual weekend bash or pushing your RC car UK vehicle through competitive racing sessions. The 3.2mm bore accepts standard brushless motor shafts without modification, and the precision-drilled set screw hole ensures the gear won't slip under the torque generated by high-KV brushless motors, maintaining consistent power delivery lap after lap or run after run.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this pinion gear compatible with my ARRMA RC vehicle? — Yes, this gear is designed as a direct replacement for ARRMA brushless models including the 1/16 Mini Kraton 3S, 1/16 MOJAVE GROM 223S, and 1/14 TYPHON GROM 223S. Check your vehicle's manual or our compatibility list to confirm your specific model uses the 3.2mm bore motor mount.
- What is the difference between a 17-tooth and 18-tooth pinion gear? — The 17-tooth configuration provides slightly more acceleration and faster throttle response compared to an 18-tooth gear, at the expense of marginally lower top speed. The 18-tooth offers the opposite — slightly more top speed but less aggressive acceleration. Your choice depends on whether you're racing tight technical tracks (17T) or more open, high-speed circuits (18T).
- Why do I need a replacement pinion gear? — Pinion gears wear over time with normal use, especially if you drive hard or run frequently. Tooth stripping, chipping, or visible wear indicates it's time for a replacement. Keeping spare pinion gears in different tooth counts also allows you to tune your vehicle's performance without buying a new brushless motor.
- How do I install this pinion gear? — Remove your motor from the vehicle, slide the old gear off the motor shaft, slide this new gear onto the shaft ensuring it's fully seated, and tighten the M3 x 4mm set screw firmly but without over-tightening, which could strip the threads. Most RC shops recommend using thread-locking compound on the set screw for added security.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — While replacement parts themselves are simple to install, you should be comfortable working with RC vehicles and removing/reinstalling motors. If you're new to RC, we recommend having an experienced friend guide you through the installation, or visit RC Model Shop in person for expert assistance.
- What is MOD 0.5 and why does it matter? — MOD (modulus) refers to the pitch and tooth profile standard for gears. MOD 0.5 is the industry standard for modern 1/10 and 1/16 scale RC vehicles, ensuring compatibility with all OEM ARRMA drivetrain components. Using a different MOD could cause meshing problems and drivetrain failure.
