Product Details
Fit these to your Grom and adjust the spring tension, with the fully adjustable threaded shock bodies, to get the perfect setup you desire. Aluminum top and bottom ball joints, with a steel shaft, gives you the strength of an all metal shock absorber. The spring is stiffer than the stock spring, and is a little long, so a better setup can be acheived if the spring is made shorter.
Designed as emulsion shocks, fill the oil slightly over the top of the body, loosely fit the cap, slowly callapse the shock, then tighten the cap when fully callapsed.

The red finish adds a striking visual upgrade to your RC model, complementing the Grom's aggressive styling whilst delivering tangible performance improvements that you'll feel immediately.
RC Model Shop stocks this genuine RC Overhaul product as part of our comprehensive range of Grom spares and performance upgrades. We understand that suspension is fundamental to RC car performance, which is why we've selected this shock set as a trusted recommendation for Grom owners seeking quality, durability and adjustability in one complete package.
Key Features
- Fully Adjustable Threaded Shock Bodies — The threaded design allows you to adjust spring preload with precision, enabling you to fine-tune your suspension setup for different track conditions, driving styles and terrain types. This level of adjustability transforms your RC car from a fixed-setup model into a truly customisable performance machine.
- Aluminium Top and Bottom Ball Joints — Constructed from durable aluminium, the ball joints at both ends of each shock absorber provide secure mounting whilst minimising weight. Aluminium construction resists corrosion and maintains smooth articulation over extended use, unlike plastic alternatives that can become stiff and unreliable.
- Steel Shaft Construction — The internal steel shaft delivers the strength and reliability required for serious RC driving. Steel won't flex or deform under heavy use, ensuring consistent damping performance session after session and preventing the suspension geometry changes that occur with inferior materials.
- All-Metal Shock Absorber Design — By eliminating plastic components in the structural elements, these shocks offer superior durability and longevity. The all-metal construction means these shocks will outlast cheaper alternatives and maintain their performance characteristics even after intensive use.
- Pre-Built and Oil-Ready — Time-saving convenience means no assembly is required. The shocks arrive ready to install with oil already included, allowing you to get your Grom running quickly without the frustration of building shocks from component parts.
- Stiffer Spring Rate Than Stock — The included springs are engineered to be stiffer than the factory-standard Grom springs, providing better support during cornering and reducing body roll for more responsive handling. The spring rate improves overall suspension stiffness without sacrificing ride quality.
- Optimised Length for Better Setup Potential — At 60mm long (2mm longer than stock Grom shocks), these units provide additional adjustment range. The extra length creates more tuning possibilities, and you have the option to make springs shorter if desired to achieve your ideal ride height and handling characteristics.
- Emulsion Shock Technology — Designed as emulsion shocks, these absorbers feature a specifically designed filling method that optimises damping characteristics. This advanced design means you'll experience smoother, more controlled suspension response compared to basic shock designs.
- Spare O-Ring Seals Included — The package includes four small and four large spare o-ring seals, giving you the ability to perform basic maintenance and repairs without requiring separate purchases. These seals are essential for maintaining oil retention and consistent damping performance.
- Travel Adjustment Option — Spare seals allow you to fit additional seals on the shaft to reduce suspension travel if required, giving you another layer of setup adjustment to tailor the shock behaviour to your specific needs and driving conditions.
Technical Performance
The RC Overhaul Aluminum Shock Set represents a significant engineering step forward in Grom suspension technology. With an 8mm bore diameter, these shocks are dimensionally optimised for the Grom platform, delivering precise fit and reliable performance. The 60mm length provides the perfect balance between offering tuning range and maintaining proper suspension geometry when fully extended or compressed. The aluminium and steel construction methodology combines lightweight material science with structural integrity—aluminium reduces unsprung mass for faster suspension response, whilst the steel shaft ensures rigidity under cornering loads and impacts. These shocks are engineered as emulsion absorbers, a technology that separates oil and air internally to prevent cavitation and foam, which would otherwise reduce damping effectiveness. The recommended oil viscosity varies by model: use 80-weight oil (1000 centistokes) for Mojave Grom variants, or 100-weight oil (1300 centistokes) for both Typhon and Granite Grom models. This viscosity specification is crucial—using the correct oil weight ensures optimal damping characteristics, prevents under-damping (which causes bouncy, unpredictable handling) and over-damping (which creates stiff, unresponsive suspension). The stiffer spring rate compared to stock components means these shocks will require careful setup; starting with the recommended oil viscosity for your specific Grom variant and then making small adjustments will help you find the perfect balance for your driving style. The fully threaded bodies mean you can make spring preload changes in quarter-turn increments, allowing micro-adjustments to ride height and handling feel without needing specialized tools or removing the shocks from your RC car.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shocks suitable for my Grom model? — Yes, the RC Overhaul Aluminum Shock Set is specifically designed and tested for all Grom variants including Mojave Grom, Typhon Grom, and Granite Grom. These shocks are listed as compatible across the entire Grom platform, making them a universal upgrade for any Grom owner looking to improve suspension performance.
- What shock oil should I use with these shocks? — This depends on your specific Grom model. For Mojave Grom, use 80-weight oil rated at 1000 centistokes. For Typhon Grom or Granite Grom variants, use 100-weight oil rated at 1300 centistokes. If you're uncertain which model you own, check your vehicle documentation or consult our RC Model Shop team. The manufacturer recommends starting with 30-weight oil as a baseline if you're unsure, then adjusting viscosity to match your model specifications and driving preferences.
- How do I fill and install these emulsion shocks? — Emulsion shocks require a specific filling technique. Fill the oil slightly above the top of the shock body (overfill slightly), then loosely fit the cap without tightening it fully. Slowly compress the shock several times to remove air bubbles, then tighten the cap completely when the shock is in the fully compressed position. This process ensures no air pockets remain inside the shock, which would otherwise cause damping inconsistency and performance problems.
- Can I adjust the suspension travel with these shocks? — Yes. The package includes spare o-ring seals that you can fit onto the shaft inside each shock to reduce the total suspension travel if desired. This is an advanced tuning feature that allows you to fine-tune how far your suspension can extend and compress, helping you dial in the exact ride height and handling feel you're after.
- How much longer are these shocks compared to stock? — These shocks measure 60mm in length, which is 2mm longer than the original factory Grom shocks. This extra length provides additional tuning range and allows for more setup flexibility. If the extra length creates issues with fitment or ride height, you can reduce the spring length to achieve your target setup geometry.
- What makes these shocks better than budget alternatives? — The all-metal construction combining aluminium ball joints with a steel shaft delivers superior durability and performance consistency compared to plastic-bodied shocks. The fully threaded design allows infinite adjustment rather than preset positions, the stiffer spring rate provides better load support, and the emulsion technology ensures smooth damping. These aren't budget shocks—they're performance upgrades designed for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Are these shocks pre-assembled? — Yes, these shocks come completely pre-built and oil-ready. You do not need to assemble them from component parts. Simply install them onto your Grom following the hardware instructions provided, and you're ready to drive. This saves significant time compared to building shocks from scratch.
- What tools do I need to install these shocks? — Basic hand tools are sufficient, typically a socket set or adjustable wrench to fit the shock mounting fasteners to your Grom's suspension arms. The specific fasteners required will depend on your exact Grom variant, so check your vehicle manual for the correct sizes.
