Overview

The RC Overhaul Crawler Table Top Obstacle is an essential accessory for any RC enthusiast looking to build and customise their own home-based crawler course. Designed specifically for 1/24th and 1/18th scale RC vehicles, this laser-cut wooden obstacle provides a versatile bridge-style element that transforms a basic flat layout into a dynamic, challenging terrain. Whether you're running Axial SCX24 crawlers, Traxxas TRX-4M trail trucks, or any other compatible 1/24th or 1/18th scale RC car, this table top obstacle delivers excellent value and endless creative potential. It's the perfect addition for UK RC hobbyists who want to create professional-looking courses in their garden, garage, or indoor space without breaking the bank.

What makes this obstacle stand out is its combination of simplicity, quality engineering, and customisability. Rather than arriving as a finished product, this table top obstacle comes as untreated laser-cut wood—a blank canvas for your imagination. This approach means you're not just buying an obstacle; you're investing in a project that you can personalise, decorate, and integrate seamlessly into your unique crawler course design. Assembly is remarkably quick, taking less than 30 minutes from box to ready-to-use, making it accessible for beginners whilst remaining impressive enough for experienced RC crawlers and scale modellers.

Built from quality laser-cut untreated wood, this obstacle is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. If you plan to leave it permanently outdoors in the UK climate, treating the wood with a suitable sealant or paint will help protect it from weather damage and extend its lifespan. The compact dimensions make it ideal for tabletop courses, small gardens, or dedicated indoor RC spaces, whilst its versatile design means it can be positioned flat for simple up-and-down crawling challenges or angled to create steeper, more technical climbs that will test even the most capable 1/24th and 1/18th scale RC crawlers.

Key Features

  • Laser-cut untreated wood construction — Precision-cut from quality untreated timber using advanced laser technology, ensuring clean edges, accurate dimensions, and structural integrity that will support repeated use by your RC crawler.
  • Quick assembly in under 30 minutes — The pre-cut design means you can have this obstacle assembled and ready to test with your RC vehicles in just half an hour, without requiring specialist tools or complex instructions.
  • Versatile mounting options — Use it as a simple horizontal bridge for basic up-and-down obstacles, or mount it at an angle to introduce steeper climbs that increase difficulty and challenge more advanced crawlers.
  • Customisable blank canvas design — The untreated wood surface is perfect for personalisation; add texture with sand, paint the obstacle to match your course theme, apply glue and modelling techniques, or keep it as bare wood for a minimalist look.
  • Indoor and outdoor flexibility — Suitable for use both indoors on a table or floor and outdoors in your garden, providing year-round entertainment options for your RC crawler hobby.
  • Designed for 1/24th and 1/18th scale vehicles — Perfectly proportioned dimensions ensure compatibility with popular scale RC crawlers including Axial SCX24 models and Traxxas TRX-4M trail trucks, whilst remaining suitable for any similarly-scaled RC vehicle.
  • Economically priced — Offering exceptional value for money, this obstacle is an affordable way to expand your crawler course without significant investment, making it ideal for hobbyists building their collections.
  • Professional laser-cut accuracy — Each component is cut with precision using industrial laser technology, ensuring perfect fit during assembly and reliable performance over extended use.

Technical Performance

This table top obstacle represents excellent engineering in untreated laser-cut wood construction. The dimensions—115mm height, 635mm length, and 150mm width—are precisely calibrated to provide realistic proportions for 1/24th and 1/18th scale RC crawlers whilst remaining manageable for home-based courses. The laser-cut precision ensures every component fits together perfectly, creating a sturdy structure capable of supporting the weight and impact of RC vehicles repeatedly climbing and descending. The untreated wood construction is deliberately chosen to provide a neutral foundation for customisation whilst maintaining excellent structural rigidity. When properly assembled, the obstacle provides a smooth climbing surface that challenges crawler suspension without damaging tyres or causing excessive strain on drivetrains. The wooden bridge design distributes vehicle weight evenly across its surface, and the untreated timber provides excellent grip for different tyre compounds. For UK customers planning outdoor permanent installation, treating the wood with appropriate sealers, oils, or exterior-grade paints will significantly extend durability against rain, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations. The compact footprint means this obstacle integrates easily into table-top courses or modest garden spaces, whilst its simple bridge design is forgiving enough for beginners exploring rock crawling whilst remaining engaging for experienced drivers seeking technical challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will this table top obstacle work with my Axial SCX24 crawler? — Yes, absolutely. The RC Overhaul Table Top Obstacle is specifically designed for 1/24th scale vehicles, making it perfectly compatible with all Axial SCX24 models including the Jeep Wrangler JLU, Chevrolet C10 trucks, Lexus GX 470, Ford Bronco, Toyota 4Runner, Dodge Power Wagon, and Jeep Gladiator variants. The obstacle's 115mm height and 635mm length provide realistic proportions for these popular crawlers.
  • Is this suitable for my Traxxas TRX-4M? — Yes, this obstacle is compatible with Traxxas 1/18 scale TRX-4M models including the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender variants, as well as other TRX-4M trucks and the Chevrolet K10. The dimensions are proportioned appropriately for 1/18th scale vehicles.
  • How long does assembly take? — One of the key advantages of this obstacle is rapid deployment. Assembly typically takes under 30 minutes, meaning you can unbox and start using it with minimal time investment. No specialist tools are required; basic assembly expertise is sufficient.
  • Can I use this indoors? — Yes, this obstacle is perfectly suited for indoor use. Its compact dimensions (115mm height, 635mm length, 150mm width) make it ideal for table-top courses, basement setups, or dedicated indoor RC spaces. The untreated wood doesn't produce harmful fumes, making it safe for indoor environments.
  • Can I leave this permanently outdoors in the UK? — The obstacle can be used outdoors, but if you intend permanent outdoor installation, you should treat the untreated wood with suitable products such as exterior wood sealers, protective oils, or weatherproof paint. This protects against UK weather including rain, frost, and UV exposure, significantly extending the obstacle's lifespan.
  • How can I customise this obstacle? — The untreated wood provides a perfect blank canvas. You can sand the surface smooth, apply acrylic or exterior paints to create themed courses, add modelling details, apply texture to simulate different terrains, or use adhesives to attach additional elements. This flexibility makes each custom course unique.
  • What makes untreated wood better than pre-finished options? — Untreated wood allows complete creative freedom. You're not restricted to a single colour or finish; instead, you can paint, stain, seal, or decorate it precisely as you envision. This makes each obstacle truly personal to your course design.
  • Can I angle this obstacle for steeper climbs? — Yes, the design explicitly supports angled mounting. Mount it horizontally for basic up-and-down challenges, or angle it to introduce steeper climbing angles that increase difficulty and test the articulation and power of your RC crawler.
  • What is the surface like for RC tyres? — The laser-cut wood provides a clean, smooth climbing surface ideal for RC crawler tyres. Different tyre compounds will provide varying grip levels. The untreated wood is forgiving on tyres whilst providing good feedback through suspension systems.
  • Is this a good first obstacle for building a custom course? — Absolutely. The combination of affordable pricing, quick assembly, and intuitive design makes this an excellent starting point. Beginners can learn course-building skills whilst experienced builders appreciate the quality laser-cut components and customisation potential.
