Overview
The ARRMA Pinion Gear 16T 0.5 MOD CNC 2.3mm Bore is a precision-engineered replacement component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand durability and performance from their electric RC vehicles. Whether you're running an ARRMA 1/14 Typhon Grom or another compatible model, this steel pinion gear is built to withstand the demands of extreme RC bashers and weekend warriors alike. As a key drivetrain component, the pinion gear directly influences acceleration, top speed, and overall performance characteristics of your RC car or buggy, making it essential to choose a high-quality replacement when your original gear wears out.
ARRMA is recognised globally as a manufacturer of professional-grade RC vehicles, and their genuine replacement parts maintain the same engineering standards as their complete models. This 16-tooth pinion gear is not a budget clone or counterfeit—it's an authentic ARRMA component that ensures your RC car performs exactly as the engineers intended. The CNC manufacturing process guarantees consistency and precision across every tooth, eliminating the wobble and noise that can occur with inferior gears. For UK RC hobbyists searching for reliable pinion gears for their ARRMA models, this is the genuine replacement you need.
Installing a new pinion gear is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make to your RC setup. Over time, even the toughest gears experience wear from constant meshing with the spur gear, which can lead to slippage, reduced acceleration, and potential drivetrain damage if left unchecked. By maintaining your transmission system with genuine ARRMA replacement parts, you'll keep your RC vehicle running smoothly and avoid costly repairs down the line.
Key Features
- Precision CNC Manufacturing — Every tooth is machined using computer numerical control technology, ensuring perfect consistency and profile accuracy across the entire gear. This precision manufacturing eliminates run-out and reduces noise during operation, resulting in smoother, more reliable performance compared to standard injection-moulded gears.
- Durable Steel Construction — Made from hardened steel rather than plastic or aluminium, this pinion gear can withstand the extreme forces generated during high-speed acceleration, jumps, and aggressive bashing without stripping or cracking. Steel gears maintain their tooth profile far longer than softer materials, protecting your spur gear and motor from damage.
- Precision Manufactured Set Screw Hole — The threaded hole for the set screw is engineered to exact tolerances, ensuring the gear sits perfectly centered on your motor shaft with no wobble or play. A properly seated pinion gear transfers power more efficiently and prevents the vibration that can damage motor bearings and cause drivetrain failures.
- 2.3mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically to fit standard 2.3mm brushed and brushless motor shafts found on ARRMA 1/14 scale models and compatible platforms. This precise bore diameter ensures a secure fit without forcing the gear onto your motor, which could damage both the gear and shaft.
- Includes M3 x 4mm Set Screw — The package includes a genuine ARRMA set screw that locks your pinion gear firmly in place on the motor shaft. A quality set screw prevents gear slippage during acceleration and deceleration, maintaining consistent gear mesh and transmission responsiveness.
Technical Performance
The 16-tooth pinion gear with 0.5 MOD (module) specification is engineered to work in harmony with standard ARRMA spur gears, delivering the acceleration and top-speed balance that the Typhon Grom and other 1/14 scale ARRMA buggies are designed to achieve. The module specification (0.5 MOD) defines the tooth pitch and size, ensuring perfect mesh with compatible spur gears on your vehicle's transmission. The CNC manufacturing process creates tooth profiles with optimal contact patterns, minimising wear and maximising power transmission efficiency. Unlike cheaper aftermarket gears that may have subtle inconsistencies in tooth shape, ARRMA's precision manufacturing means every tooth engages consistently with the spur gear, delivering predictable acceleration and smoother shifts through the drivetrain. The hardened steel material resists the micro-pitting and tooth deformation that often occurs on plastic or soft metal gears, extending the service life of both your pinion and spur gears significantly. For RC bashers and competitive racers alike, maintaining proper gear condition is crucial to overall vehicle reliability and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What ARRMA models is this pinion gear compatible with? — This 16T 0.5 MOD pinion gear is specifically designed as a direct replacement for the ARRMA 1/14 Typhon Grom Mega 380 brushed 4x4 buggy. The 2.3mm bore matches the standard brushed and brushless motor shafts used on these 1/14 scale vehicles, ensuring a perfect fit without modifications.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears experience wear over time as they mesh continuously with the spur gear during driving. With regular use, especially in extreme bashing conditions, the tooth profile gradually flattens and may eventually slip or strip. Replacing a worn pinion gear restores acceleration response and prevents further damage to your transmission system, motor bearings, and spur gear.
- How do I know when my pinion gear needs replacing? — Signs of a worn pinion gear include loss of acceleration, difficulty maintaining top speed, visible tooth wear or flattening, abnormal grinding or whining noises from the drivetrain, or slippage where the wheels don't respond immediately to throttle input. If you notice any of these symptoms, a replacement pinion gear like this ARRMA unit should be your first port of call.
- What's the difference between CNC manufactured and standard gears? — CNC (Computer Numerical Control) manufacturing produces gears with consistent tooth profiles and precise tolerances that cannot be achieved through injection moulding or basic machining. This means smoother operation, reduced noise, more efficient power transfer, and significantly longer gear life. Standard gears may have subtle variations in tooth shape that accumulate wear differently and can cause vibration or slippage.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a complete vehicle, so it's intended for RC enthusiasts who already own an ARRMA Typhon Grom and have basic mechanical knowledge. Beginners should consider purchasing a complete ready-to-run RTR model first, then learn basic maintenance and component replacement as part of developing their RC hobby skills.
- Can I use this gear on other RC vehicles? — The 2.3mm bore and 0.5 MOD specification are specific to certain ARRMA and compatible vehicles. Using this gear on an incompatible vehicle with a different motor shaft size or spur gear module will result in poor mesh, slippage, and potential drivetrain damage. Always verify compatibility with your vehicle's specifications before purchasing.
