    Overview

The RC Overhaul 0.8Mod Pinion Set is an essential upgrade and tuning option for RC enthusiasts running ARRMA 3S and 4S vehicles, or any RC car with a 5mm motor shaft compatible with 0.8 module gearing. This precision-engineered pinion set gives you three different tooth count options — 15T, 17T, and 20T — allowing you to fine-tune your RC car's performance to match your driving style, terrain conditions, and desired balance between speed and torque. Whether you're new to RC car tuning in the UK or an experienced basher looking to optimise your setup, this versatile pinion range delivers the flexibility you need to get the most out of your brushless RC system.

Designed specifically for the RC Overhaul brand and compatible with popular ARRMA platforms, this pinion set represents a cost-effective way to experiment with different gearing ratios without investing in multiple complete drivetrain upgrades. The included three-pinion selection means you can quickly swap gears depending on whether you're heading to the park for a casual bash, taking on challenging terrain like long grass, or preparing for a competitive speed run. For anyone serious about RC car performance and wanting to dial in their vehicle perfectly, having multiple pinion options is crucial to achieving the ideal setup.

This is genuine RC Overhaul equipment, manufactured to exacting standards and ready to install on your compatible RC vehicle. The 5mm bore ensures a precise fit on standard motor shafts, whilst the 0.8 module specification maintains perfect compatibility with existing drivetrain components on your ARRMA or equivalent RC car.

    Key Features

    • Three Tooth Count Options (15T, 17T, 20T) — The set includes three different pinion gears that allow you to easily adjust your RC car's gearing ratio without purchasing separate pinion sets, giving you maximum flexibility for different driving conditions and performance preferences.
    • 0.8 Module Specification — This module size is specifically engineered to work seamlessly with ARRMA 3S and 4S vehicles and other RC cars using compatible 0.8 module drivetrain components, ensuring perfect mesh and reliable performance.
    • 5mm Motor Shaft Bore — The precision-machined 5mm bore fits standard brushless motor shafts found on ARRMA vehicles and many other RC cars, making installation straightforward and reliable without requiring adapters.
    • 15T Pinion for High Torque and Monster Applications — The 15-tooth option is ideal when running your RC car in high-load conditions such as driving through long grass or bashing with a Monster truck setup, providing maximum pulling power and durability.
    • 17T Pinion for Balanced Speed and Torque — The 17-tooth middle option strikes an excellent balance, offering a little more speed than the 15T whilst maintaining good torque delivery, perfect for smoother surfaces and general recreational driving.
    • 20T Pinion for Maximum Speed Runs — The 20-tooth option unleashes the full potential of your motor for dedicated speed runs with progressive throttle control, though it demands careful driving technique and motor temperature monitoring to avoid overheating during aggressive bashing.
    • Quality RC Overhaul Engineering — Built to the same precision standards as full RC Overhaul drivetrain packages, these pinions are manufactured from durable materials designed to withstand repeated engagement and high-speed operation.
    • Easy Drivetrain Tuning — Swapping pinions is one of the quickest and most effective ways to tune your RC car's performance without major modifications, making this set perfect for competitive drivers and hobbyists alike.

    Technical Performance

The RCO 0.8Mod Pinion Set delivers precision engineering focused on gearing optimisation for brushless RC vehicles. Each pinion is machined to exact 0.8 module specifications, ensuring smooth meshing with spur gears and minimal backlash for efficient power transfer from your brushless motor to the wheels. The 5mm shaft bore is engineered to tolerances that guarantee a secure fit on standard motor shafts without slipping or excessive play. The three included tooth counts — 15T, 17T, and 20T — represent the most versatile range for ARRMA 3S and 4S vehicles, covering everything from maximum torque at low revolutions per minute for heavy terrain, through to aggressive speed configurations. The 15T option is specifically recommended for Monster truck platforms and high-load bashing scenarios where durability and pulling power are paramount. The 17T represents the sweet spot for most recreational RC driving on varied terrain, offering responsive acceleration and manageable top speed. The 20T is engineered for competitive speed applications and should only be used with careful progressive throttle control, as sustained high-speed running will generate significant motor heat that requires active cooling and monitoring. These pinions are manufactured from hardened materials selected to withstand the stresses of engagement with metal spur gears and the repetitive high-torque demands of brushless systems running on 3S and 4S LiPo batteries.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Which pinion tooth count should I choose for my ARRMA RC car? — The choice depends on your driving environment and style. Select the 15T pinion if you're running a Monster truck or frequently driving through challenging terrain like long grass where maximum torque and pulling power is essential. Choose the 17T pinion for balanced performance on mixed terrain and general recreational bashing where you want a combination of speed and torque. Pick the 20T pinion only if you're specifically aiming for maximum speed runs with careful, progressive throttle control and have the capability to monitor your motor temperature, as this option generates significant heat and is not suitable for aggressive bashing driving styles.
    • Are these pinions compatible with my ARRMA vehicle? — Yes, the RCO 0.8Mod Pinion Set is specifically engineered for ARRMA 3S and 4S version vehicles, and will also work with any other RC car equipped with a motor featuring a 5mm shaft and a 0.8 module drivetrain setup. Always verify your current drivetrain module specification before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
    • What is the difference between 15T, 17T and 20T pinions? — The number represents the teeth count on the gear. A lower tooth count (15T) creates a higher gear ratio, providing more torque and slower top speed — ideal for powerful acceleration and heavy-load conditions. A middle tooth count (17T) balances speed and torque for general-purpose driving. A higher tooth count (20T) creates a lower gear ratio, delivering higher top speed but less torque, which is suitable for speed-focused applications on smooth surfaces with careful throttle management.
    • Do I need special tools to install these pinions? — Installation requires removal of your existing pinion gear, which is easiest with a pinion gear puller tool, though some drivers manage with careful use of a small socket or spanner. A pinion gear puller is recommended to avoid damaging the motor shaft. Once removed, the new pinion slides onto the 5mm shaft and is secured with the existing grub screw or pinion locking system on your motor.
    • Will changing the pinion affect my motor temperature? — Yes, higher tooth count pinions (like the 20T) will cause your motor to run at higher RPM and generate more heat, particularly during sustained high-speed running. Lower tooth count pinions (like the 15T) reduce motor RPM and heat generation. Always monitor motor temperature when switching to a higher-speed configuration, and ensure adequate ventilation and cooling during operation.
    • Can I use these pinions with my 3S or 4S LiPo battery? — These pinions are designed for both 3S and 4S ARRMA vehicles. The pinion choice doesn't directly depend on battery voltage, but your selection should complement your motor KV rating and vehicle setup. With a 3S LiPo, a higher tooth count pinion (20T) may help reach desired speeds. With a 4S LiPo, you have more flexibility and may prefer lower tooth counts for better torque delivery and control.
    • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst the pinions themselves are straightforward RC components, changing gearing ratios requires basic mechanical understanding and appropriate tools. Beginners should start with their vehicle's standard pinion and only experiment with alternative tooth counts once they're comfortable with basic maintenance. The guidance provided for each tooth count helps beginners make informed decisions about which option suits their driving style and terrain.
