Technical Performance
The RC Overhaul Lower Tie Rod Set represents a significant engineering upgrade for your SCX24 crawler. These tie rods are manufactured from premium-grade aluminium and finished with a hard black anodised coating that provides excellent durability and corrosion resistance. The choice of aluminium over plastic is critical for performance enthusiasts—whilst plastic tie rods are acceptable for casual driving, they flex under load, compromising steering precision and creating inconsistent handling characteristics that are particularly problematic in technical, twisty terrain where exact steering geometry is essential. Aluminium's superior stiffness means your suspension geometry remains consistent throughout your session, enabling repeatable steering response and more predictable handling. The precision engineering ensures tight tolerances with minimal play, which is particularly important for rock crawling where small changes in steering geometry can be the difference between clearing an obstacle and getting stuck. The anodised finish is not merely aesthetic—it provides a hard protective layer that resists corrosion from dirt, mud, water and the general wear encountered during intensive off-road use. For UK RC car enthusiasts running their crawlers in varied weather conditions, this level of corrosion protection extends the service life of your upgrade significantly. The etched branding adds a professional finishing touch that demonstrates these are precision components worthy of your investment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these tie rods compatible with all SCX24 models? — These rods are specifically designed for the Axial SCX24, with particular suitability for short wheelbase variants featuring a forward-mounted centre gearbox chassis, such as the popular Deadbolt model. If you own a different SCX24 variant, please verify fitment compatibility before ordering.
- What's the advantage of aluminium over plastic tie rods? — Aluminium tie rods provide significantly superior rigidity, which means minimal flex during cornering and technical manoeuvres. This translates to more consistent steering geometry, better handling precision, and more reliable performance on demanding terrain. Plastic rods flex under load, which compromises steering response and creates inconsistent handling characteristics—particularly problematic for technical crawling.
- Will these improve my crawling performance? — Yes. By eliminating flex in the steering linkage, these tie rods provide more responsive steering input and consistent handling geometry throughout your trail sessions. This is particularly noticeable in technical terrain where precision steering is critical for clearing obstacles and navigating tight lines.
- How difficult are they to fit? — These are bolt-on replacements for your standard SCX24 tie rods. If you're comfortable performing basic RC maintenance and adjustments, installation should be straightforward. However, if you're new to RC maintenance, consider seeking assistance from an experienced RC technician or visiting your local RC shop for installation support.
- Do these tie rods require any special maintenance? — The anodised aluminium is very low-maintenance. Simply rinse with fresh water after muddy sessions and allow to dry. The hard anodised coating protects against corrosion, making these extremely durable components that require minimal upkeep compared to plastic alternatives.
- Are these suitable for beginners? — These are suitable for any skill level, though they represent a performance upgrade rather than a beginner necessity. If you're new to RC crawling, you can absolutely enjoy the hobby with stock components, but upgrading to aluminium tie rods will enhance your experience as you develop your skills and tackle more challenging terrain.
- What is the difference between these and other aftermarket tie rod options? — The RC Overhaul tie rods are engineered specifically for the SCX24 platform with precision manufacturing and a professional anodised finish. The etched branding demonstrates attention to detail, and the full aluminium construction provides the rigidity needed for demanding trail work without unnecessary weight penalty.
