Overview
The Tamiya M-06 Bearing Kit is an essential upgrade for owners of Tamiya M-06 and M-05 chassis RC cars in the UK. This high-quality ball bearing set significantly improves the running smoothness and longevity of your RC model by replacing worn or standard bearings with precision-engineered components. Whether you're running a classic RC car like the Tamiya Mini Cooper 94 Monte Carlo, the VW Karmann Ghia, the Lotus Europa Special, or the Volkswagen Split Screen VW Type 2 T1, upgrading to this bearing kit will enhance performance and extend the life of your drivetrain. For any serious RC enthusiast looking to maintain their M-06 or M-05 chassis at peak performance, this bearing kit is a worthwhile investment.
The M-06 chassis itself is renowned for delivering great RR (rear-mounted motor, rear-drive) performance with a sophisticated suspension setup that includes 4-wheel double wishbone suspension and a 3-piece steering linkage for nimble handling response. By fitting the M-06 Bearing Kit, you ensure that all the moving parts of your chassis—from the axles to the differential—operate with minimum friction and maximum efficiency. This upgrade is particularly valuable for RC car enthusiasts who want smooth running characteristics and reliable performance during competitive driving or casual weekend bashing sessions.
Manufactured by the renowned Zen Bearings brand, this kit contains precisely specified ball bearings that are compatible with multiple M-06 and M-05 models. Installing quality bearings reduces noise, minimizes vibration, improves acceleration response, and ultimately gives your RC car the smooth, professional-feeling performance that separates a well-maintained model from one that's beginning to show wear.
Key Features
- Precision ball bearing construction — The kit contains high-quality ball bearings manufactured by Zen, a recognised brand in the RC bearing market, ensuring smooth rotation and reduced friction across the chassis drivetrain and suspension components.
- Complete compatibility with M-06 and M-05 models — This bearing set is specifically designed to work with the Tamiya M-06 chassis and its predecessor the M-05, making it an ideal upgrade for owners of the Mini Cooper 94 Monte Carlo, VW Karmann Ghia, Lotus Europa Special, and Volkswagen Split Screen VW Type 2 T1 models.
- Improves running smoothness — By replacing standard or worn bearings with precision-engineered ball bearings, this kit significantly enhances the overall smoothness of your RC car's operation, resulting in a more responsive and enjoyable driving experience.
- Extends component lifespan — High-quality bearings reduce friction and wear across the chassis, helping to prolong the life of gearboxes, axles, and other drivetrain components.
- Enhances acceleration response — Smoother-running bearings mean less energy is wasted through friction, allowing your motor's power to be more efficiently converted into movement.
- Reduces operational noise — Quality ball bearings minimise grinding and squeaking sounds, giving your RC car a more refined, professional operation during use.
Technical Performance
The Tamiya M-06 Bearing Kit represents a crucial maintenance and performance upgrade for owners of M-06 and M-05 chassis RC cars in the UK. The M-06 chassis is engineered with a rear-mounted motor in a rear-drive configuration, featuring a longitudinally-mounted battery pack positioned with R/C units on either side to achieve optimum balance and a low centre of gravity. This sophisticated setup is complemented by 4-wheel double wishbone suspension, which is equipped with 60D radial tyres at the front and 60D super grip tyres at the rear, coupled with a 3-piece steering linkage that delivers nimble handling response. The bearing kit supplied contains 12 x B5114 ball bearings and 6 x B5825 ball bearings, specifically matched to the dimensional and load requirements of the M-06 and M-05 chassis. These bearings are engineered to operate with minimal friction whilst maintaining durability under the demands of RC driving—whether during casual recreational use or more intensive competitive sessions. By upgrading to this bearing kit from Zen, you ensure that the entire drivetrain operates at its intended efficiency level, which is particularly important given the sophisticated suspension and drive geometry of the M-06 platform.

- Will upgrading to this bearing kit improve my RC car's performance? — Yes. High-quality ball bearings significantly reduce friction throughout the chassis drivetrain and suspension, resulting in smoother operation, better acceleration response, reduced noise, and ultimately a more refined and enjoyable driving experience. Many RC enthusiasts report that fitting a bearing upgrade is one of the most noticeable improvements they can make to an older or well-used chassis.
- How many bearings are included in this kit? — The kit contains 18 ball bearings in total: 12 x B5114 and 6 x B5825, which are precisely matched to the bearing points throughout the M-06 and M-05 chassis.
- Who manufactures these bearings? — The bearings in this kit are manufactured by Zen, a recognised brand specialising in high-quality ball bearings for RC applications. Zen bearings are known for their precision engineering and durability.
- Is this bearing kit suitable for beginners? — Yes, this kit is suitable for any RC enthusiast. Whilst bearing replacement requires some mechanical knowledge and care, any RC hobbyist with basic tools and patience can install these bearings. If you're new to bearing installation, there are plenty of online guides and YouTube tutorials that walk through the process step by step.
- Will this bearing kit work on other Tamiya chassis models? — This kit is specifically designed for the M-06 and M-05 chassis. Other Tamiya chassis models such as the TT-02, TB-04, or others may have different bearing specifications. Always check compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
- How often should I replace the bearings in my RC car? — The frequency of bearing replacement depends on usage intensity and environmental conditions. Bearings used in dusty or wet conditions may wear faster. A quality bearing kit like this one should provide extended service life, but inspecting bearings regularly and replacing them if they show signs of grinding, excessive noise, or roughness is good practice for maintaining peak RC car performance.
