Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from tough steel that delivers long-lasting performance even in extreme RC conditions, ensuring your investment stands up to regular bashing and competitive racing.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The wide tooth design ensures smooth operation and efficient power transfer from your motor to the drivetrain, reducing noise and wear whilst maintaining consistent performance session after session.
- Safe-D5 Design with D-Shaped Bore — The distinctive D-shaped hole matches the motor shaft profile precisely, preventing drive loss if the set-screw backs out during use, which is a common problem with standard pinion gears and can leave you stranded mid-race.
- Suits 5mm Motor Shaft Diameter — Compatible with the industry-standard 5mm motor shaft size used across a wide range of electric RC cars, buggies, and trucks, making this a versatile addition to your RC parts collection.
- Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The accurately threaded hole ensures a secure fit for the M4 x 4mm set-screw supplied with the gear, preventing slippage and maintaining a solid mechanical connection even under hard acceleration and braking.
- E-Clip Motor Shaft Retention — The 3.2mm E-clip supplied provides additional security and retention on the motor shaft, adding another layer of reliability to keep your pinion gear in place during the most demanding RC driving conditions.
- Complete Ready-to-Install Package — Everything you need for installation is included in the box, so you can get back on the track or trail quickly without hunting for additional hardware at your local RC shop.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 36T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear represents a benchmark in RC drivetrain reliability and performance. Manufactured from quality steel to precise tolerances, this 36-tooth pinion gear is engineered for use with 5mm diameter motor shafts and delivers exceptional durability across all driving conditions. The Mod1 pitch specification ensures compatibility with standard ARRMA spur gears and comparable equipment from other manufacturers using the same modular tooth system. The Safe-D5 design represents a significant engineering advantage over conventional pinion gears — the D-shaped bore is not just a stylistic choice but a functional safety feature that prevents complete power loss if mechanical fasteners work loose during use. This is particularly important for RC enthusiasts who use their vehicles in high-vibration environments or during high-performance driving sessions where drivetrain stress is maximised. The wide tooth profile manufacturing process creates a larger contact area between the pinion and spur gear, distributing loads more effectively and reducing peak stress concentrations that lead to tooth stripping and premature wear. With proper installation using the supplied M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm E-clip, this pinion gear will provide years of reliable service across multiple vehicles or thousands of running hours on a single platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does Safe-D5 mean and why is it important? — The Safe-D5 design features a D-shaped bore that matches your 5mm motor shaft profile exactly. The D-shape prevents the pinion gear from spinning freely on the shaft if the set-screw comes loose, meaning you won't lose all drive power mid-race or trail session. This is a crucial safety feature that distinguishes ARRMA pinion gears from standard alternatives and gives you peace of mind during intense driving.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. This is a straightforward replacement or upgrade component that works with any RC car UK setup using a compatible 5mm motor shaft. Installation is simple — slide it onto the motor shaft, secure it with the M4 x 4mm set-screw, and add the E-clip for retention. Even if you've never changed a pinion gear before, the included hardware and straightforward design make this accessible to beginners and experienced RC enthusiasts alike.
- What motor shafts is this compatible with? — The 36T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear is designed for 5mm diameter motor shafts, which is the standard size across most electric brushless and brushed motors used in 1/10 scale and smaller RC cars, buggies, and trucks available in the UK.
- How does the 36-tooth configuration compare to other pinion gear sizes? — The 36-tooth count represents a mid-range option in the ARRMA pinion gear range. Fewer teeth (like 32T or 33T) will give you higher top speed but lower torque, whilst more teeth (like 37T or 38T) will increase torque and acceleration at the expense of maximum speed. The 36T offers a balanced option suitable for general-purpose bashing and mixed terrain driving.
- What is the Mod1 pitch specification? — Mod1 refers to the modular pitch of the gear teeth. This standardised specification ensures the pinion gear meshes correctly with ARRMA spur gears and compatible equipment from other manufacturers using the same tooth system. It's a universal standard in the RC hobby and ensures compatibility across multiple brands.
- Can I use this on multiple vehicles? — Yes, as long as those vehicles feature a compatible 5mm motor shaft, this pinion gear will work across all your electric RC cars and trucks. Many UK RC enthusiasts keep spare pinion gears in different tooth counts to experiment with performance characteristics or to have backups for competition and casual driving.
- What tools do I need to install this? — You'll need a small hex key or Allen wrench to tighten the M4 x 4mm set-screw. Some RC enthusiasts prefer to use threadlocker compound on the screw for additional security, though this is optional. Snap the E-clip into place by hand — no tools required.
