This 33-tooth mod1 pinion gear is precision-manufactured from tough steel, delivering the durability needed for extreme RC conditions whilst maintaining smooth, efficient power delivery. The Safe-D5 bore system is a game-changer for RC car owners, featuring ARRMA's innovative 'D' shaped hole design that matches your motor shaft profile perfectly. This clever engineering means you won't lose drive or braking power if the set-screw backs out during intense running sessions – a common problem that frustrates RC enthusiasts. Whether you're piloting a ready to run RC buggy, truggy, monster truck, or crawler, having the right pinion gear in your spares collection is essential maintenance.
Designed to work seamlessly with 5mm motor shafts, this pinion gear combines professional-grade construction with user-friendly installation. The precision-manufactured threaded set-screw hole ensures secure mounting, whilst the included M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm E-clip provide complete retention security. For anyone serious about their RC car UK hobby, this is the kind of quality component that belongs in every toolkit.
Key Features
- Safe-D5 Bore System — The innovative 'D' shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile perfectly, which means drive and brakes are not lost if the set-screw backs out during aggressive driving or racing. This is a critical safety feature that prevents mid-run failures when you're relying on consistent power delivery.
- Tough Steel Construction — Manufactured from strong, durable steel, this pinion gear is engineered to perform reliably in extreme RC conditions, from scorching summer track sessions to muddy terrain bashing. Steel construction ensures longevity and resistance to wear that plastic alternatives cannot match.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — Every tooth is precisely engineered with a wide profile that delivers smooth operation and efficient power transfer from motor to drivetrain. This careful manufacturing means less noise, better meshing with your spur gear, and more reliable performance lap after lap.
- 33-Tooth Mod1 Specification — The 33-tooth count in mod1 pitch delivers the right balance of acceleration and top-end speed for most RC car applications, making it the go-to choice for both recreational and competitive drivers. This tooth count is industry-standard for good reason.
- Suits 5mm Motor Shaft Diameter — Compatible with the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed RC motors found in 1/10-scale and similar RC vehicles, ensuring broad compatibility across different RC car UK models and manufacturers.
- Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The threaded hole is crafted with precision to accept the included M4 x 4mm set-screw, providing secure, repeatable fastening that won't strip or loosen under normal use.
- E-Clip Retention System — The included 3.2mm E-clip provides additional shaft retention security, working alongside the set-screw to keep your pinion gear firmly in place even during hard acceleration or emergency braking.
- Complete Installation Kit Included — Every component you need to install and secure this pinion gear comes in the box, eliminating the frustration of hunting for compatible fasteners and clips separately.
Technical Performance
This 33T Mod1 Safe-D5 pinion gear represents serious engineering designed to handle the demanding world of RC car running. The steel construction provides the strength needed to transmit power from brushless and brushed motors without stripping teeth or deforming under load – a problem that can occur with inferior aftermarket gears or worn original components. The precision-manufactured wide tooth profile ensures optimal meshing with your vehicle's spur gear, reducing backlash and improving overall drivetrain efficiency. The mod1 pitch system is the industry standard for RC cars, and at 33 teeth, this gear strikes the perfect balance for recreational running and competition use. The bore diameter of 5mm accommodates the vast majority of modern RC motors, from compact brushless units in racing 1/10-scale buggies to high-torque motors in heavier rock crawlers and monster trucks. The Safe-D5 bore system represents genuine innovation – the 'D' shaped profile means mechanical failure due to set-screw loosening becomes virtually impossible, a genuine advancement over traditional round bores where a single loose screw can ruin an entire run. Whether you're operating in temperate UK conditions or pushing your RC car to the limit in competitive environments, this pinion gear delivers consistent, reliable performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Safe-D5 bore system and why does it matter for my RC car? — The Safe-D5 bore features a 'D' shaped hole that matches your motor shaft profile, unlike traditional round bores. This means if your set-screw loosens during running, you won't lose drive or braking power – a genuine safety and reliability advantage that makes this pinion gear stand out from competitors.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The 33-tooth mod1 specification is the industry standard choice for most RC cars, and the included installation hardware makes fitting straightforward. Whether you're a seasoned racer replacing a worn gear or discovering RC car maintenance for the first time, this is the perfect component to have on hand.
- What motor size does this pinion gear work with? — This gear is designed for motors with a 5mm shaft diameter, which covers the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in modern RC cars across the UK hobby scene, from 1/10-scale buggies to monster trucks.
- How does the 33-tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — The 33-tooth count in mod1 pitch is the sweet spot for most recreational and competitive RC running, providing balanced acceleration and top-end speed. It's neither too aggressive (which would sacrifice top speed) nor too conservative (which would limit acceleration). This makes it the go-to choice for versatile running.
- Why should I choose steel over plastic for a pinion gear? — Steel construction delivers superior durability, maintains precision tooth profiles longer under load, and resists the wear that plastic alternatives suffer. For any RC enthusiast who values reliability and long-term performance, steel is the only sensible choice.
- Can I use this pinion gear as a direct replacement? — If your current pinion gear is also a mod1 33-tooth specification with a 5mm bore, this ARRMA part is an excellent direct replacement. The Safe-D5 bore is backward compatible with standard 5mm shafts, making the upgrade seamless.
