Key Features

  • High-quality anodised aluminium big bore shock bodies — The use of premium anodised aluminium construction provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio whilst resisting corrosion and wear from moisture and dirt exposure during outdoor RC sessions. The anodising process creates a protective oxide layer that extends the lifespan of these components significantly compared to bare aluminium alternatives.
  • Tough molded shock caps, shock seal cartridges and preload adjusters — These precision-engineered components ensure a secure seal and consistent performance across thousands of cycles. The sealed cartridge design prevents oil leakage and maintains damping consistency, which is critical for predictable handling and reliable suspension performance during competitive driving.
  • Strong 4mm stainless steel shock shafts — The use of stainless steel for the main shaft provides exceptional durability and corrosion resistance, meaning your shocks will maintain their structural integrity even when exposed to wet conditions, salt spray, or muddy terrain. This material choice significantly extends the working life of the shock assembly compared to softer steel alternatives.
  • Tough composite shock rod ends, spring retainers and pivot balls — These high-quality composite materials are precision-engineered to provide secure mounting whilst reducing stress concentration at critical connection points. The composite material absorbs vibration effectively and resists the fatigue cracking that can occur with lower-quality plastic alternatives.
  • Smooth silicone O-rings — The silicone O-rings create an effective seal that prevents oil leakage whilst maintaining smooth piston movement through the shock body. Silicone is superior to rubber alternatives as it maintains flexibility across a wider temperature range and resists degradation from shock oil exposure.
  • Supplied fully assembled and ready to bolt on — This is a significant convenience factor for UK RC enthusiasts. Unlike shock sets that require assembly, these come pre-assembled with oil already filled to the correct viscosity, meaning you can fit them to your vehicle immediately after choosing your spring setup.
  • Pre-filled with 500cSt silicone shock oil — The 500cSt viscosity has been carefully selected by ARRMA to provide optimal damping for the intended vehicle class and driving conditions. This oil weight strikes a balance between compression and rebound damping, delivering predictable and controllable suspension behaviour across varied terrain.
  • Additional tuning preload spacers supplied — The set includes three different preload spacer sizes (3mm, 5mm, and 7mm), allowing you to fine-tune the suspension geometry and spring preload independently on each shock. This flexibility is invaluable for dialling in the perfect setup for your specific track conditions, driving style, or vehicle weight modifications.
  • 1.3mm x 4-hole pistons — The piston design with four damping holes provides a carefully balanced flow area for the shock oil, creating appropriate compression and rebound damping characteristics. The 1.3mm diameter is optimised for 15mm bore shocks, ensuring maximum efficiency and performance.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA Shock Set Z-ARA330680 represents the pinnacle of engineering for 1/10 scale suspension systems. The 15mm bore diameter is a proven design that delivers superior damping performance compared to smaller bore alternatives, allowing the piston to move through a larger volume of oil which creates more refined and adjustable damping curves. At 119mm in length (measured centre-to-centre), these shocks are engineered to fit perfectly on ARRMA Kraton 4S and Outcast 4S models, providing the correct geometry for optimal weight distribution and handling balance. The combination of the 1.3mm x 4-hole piston and 500cSt silicone oil creates damping characteristics that excel in both high-speed track driving and aggressive outdoor bashing.

The anodised aluminium construction is not merely cosmetic—it provides critical corrosion resistance and weight savings that improve overall vehicle performance. Each shock weighs significantly less than inferior steel alternatives whilst providing greater strength, resulting in improved acceleration, braking response, and overall agility. The stainless steel 4mm shock shafts are oversized compared to many competitors' offerings, providing exceptional rigidity and resistance to bending under the extreme forces experienced during aggressive driving and jumping. The sealed cartridge design prevents contamination from mud, dust, and water whilst maintaining consistent damping over extended use periods, which is particularly valuable for UK drivers who often encounter wet and muddy terrain.

The included preload spacers (3mm, 5mm, and 7mm) allow you to adjust the ride height and suspension stiffness without requiring different springs. This tuning flexibility is usually only found on higher-end competition racing shocks, making this set exceptional value for serious RC enthusiasts. Whether you're running on indoor asphalt, sandy terrain, or muddy outdoor tracks, you can optimise your suspension geometry within minutes to match your specific conditions and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shocks suitable for both Kraton and Outcast models? — Yes, the ARRMA Shock Set Z-ARA330680 is designed as a standard part for multiple ARRMA 1/10 4S models including the Kraton 4X4 4S and OUTCAST 4X4 4S platforms. The 15mm bore and 119mm length specifications are compatible with both chassis designs. Always verify your specific model variant is listed in the compatibility section before ordering.
  • What oil viscosity do these shocks use and can I change it? — These shocks come pre-filled with 500cSt silicone shock oil, which is the recommended viscosity for the Kraton and Outcast 4S models in standard driving conditions. You can change the oil viscosity if desired—lighter oil (typically 250-350cSt) will provide softer damping for smoother rides on jump-heavy tracks, whilst heavier oil (700cSt and above) will provide stiffer damping for more controlled handling on technical terrain. Oil changes should be performed carefully to avoid contaminating the interior of the shock body.
  • How do I use the included preload spacers to tune my suspension? — The preload spacers adjust how much the spring is compressed before the vehicle is placed on the ground, which changes both the ride height and the effective spring rate. Adding more spacers (or larger spacers) increases preload, raising the vehicle and making the suspension feel stiffer. Removing spacers lowers the vehicle and softens the suspension feel. Most drivers experiment with different combinations to find the setup that feels best for their driving style and local track conditions.
  • Do I need to replace my complete shocks or can I upgrade individual components? — The ARRMA Shock Set Z-ARA330680 is sold as a complete pair of assembled shocks, and this is the most practical way to upgrade. However, ARRMA does sell individual components separately such as shock caps (Z-ARA330671) and spring perches/rod ends (Z-ARA330672) if you need to replace worn parts. For a comprehensive suspension upgrade on a UK RC car, purchasing the complete shock set is the most cost-effective approach.
  • Are these shocks waterproof and suitable for wet conditions? — The sealed cartridge design with quality silicone O-rings provides excellent protection against water ingress, making these shocks suitable for wet grass, muddy terrain, and damp conditions commonly encountered when driving RC cars in the UK. However, they are not designed for submersion in water. After wet driving sessions, rinse the external surfaces with fresh water to prevent salt or mud accumulation, and dry thoroughly before storage.
  • What is the difference between these 15mm bore shocks and smaller alternatives? — The 15mm bore provides a larger internal diameter, which allows the piston to interact with a greater volume of oil during compression and rebound cycles. This larger oil volume creates more refined damping characteristics and provides greater tuning flexibility through preload adjustment. Smaller bore shocks (typically 12mm) are lighter but provide less adjustable damping and less precise control. The 15mm bore is the standard specification for modern 1/10 scale performance vehicles like the Kraton and Outcast 4S.
  • Can these shocks be used on other RC vehicle types? — The ARRMA Shock Set Z-ARA330680 is specifically engineered for ARRMA 1/10 4S vehicles with 15mm bore shock mounts. Whilst the physical dimensions may appear similar to shocks used on other brands or scales, using them on incompatible vehicles could result in poor handling and potential damage. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle model before ordering.
  • How often should I service or maintain these shocks? — The sealed design means these shocks require minimal maintenance under normal driving conditions. However, after extended use (typically 20-30 hours of driving), inspect the shock caps for any oil seepage and check that all fasteners remain tight. If you notice oil leakage, the O-rings may need replacement, which is a straightforward maintenance task using ARRMA replacement seal cartridge kits.
