Key Features

  • Hexagon-Shaped Pod Tyre Design — The centre of the tyre features beefy pins arranged in rows of hexagon-shaped pods, a unique design concept that maximises contact with loose terrain whilst maintaining structural integrity under aggressive driving conditions.
  • Stepped-Pin Tread Pattern — The smaller outer tread is composed of connected chains of pins that work in harmony with the taller centre pins, providing a balanced approach to grip and durability that performs consistently throughout your race.
  • Extra Tall Centre Pins — Specifically designed for loose and loamy track conditions, the tall pins dig into soft ground to deliver exceptional forward grip and braking stability, giving you confidence in every corner and straightaway.
  • Step-Pin Support System — The innovative pin design helps support the tall pins as your buggy carves through loose dirt, preventing excessive flexing and maintaining predictable handling even under full throttle acceleration.
  • Latest Generation Carcass Shape — Pro-Line's modern carcass geometry has been engineered to improve bump handling, allowing your buggy to maintain traction and stability even when tackling rough, uneven track surfaces.
  • Long-Lasting Durability — The large pin design gives you longevity for main events and extended racing sessions, meaning these tyres will outlast inferior alternatives and deliver value across multiple competition days.
  • Closed Cell Foam Inserts Included — Two closed cell foam inserts are provided in the box, offering essential support and stability to the tyre structure whilst running at racing speeds.
  • Made in the USA Since 1982 — Pro-Line's commitment to American manufacturing since 1982 ensures consistent quality, rigorous testing, and genuine engineering expertise in every set of tyres you purchase.
  • Front or Rear Compatibility — These tyres work equally well on front or rear 1/8 buggy wheels, making them a flexible choice for different track setups and driving preferences.

Technical Performance

The Hex Shot S4 represents Pro-Line's advanced understanding of off-road RC buggy tyre engineering. The S4 designation indicates this is a Super Soft compound, specifically formulated to deliver maximum grip on loose and loamy tracks whilst maintaining adequate durability for competitive racing. The stepped-pin architecture works on a fundamental principle: the taller hexagon-pod pins in the centre provide aggressive bite into soft ground, whilst the smaller peripheral pins offer support and structural stability. This two-stage approach prevents the common problem of centre pins collapsing or breaking under cornering forces. The modern carcass shape has been refined through extensive testing to handle the bump loads typical of off-road racing without sacrificing the low-profile flexibility needed for optimal ground contact. The closed cell foam inserts included with this set are crucial—they prevent the tyre from collapsing during high-speed cornering and provide the platform upon which the pins operate effectively. Whether you're running on talcum powder-soft clay, freshly groomed loamy soil, or the varying conditions found at UK RC tracks, the Hex Shot S4 adapts and delivers consistent performance. The large pin design and quality rubber compound mean these tyres will remain competitive throughout extended race weekends, making them a cost-effective choice for serious competitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are the Pro-Line Hex Shot S4 tyres suitable for beginners to RC buggy racing? — Whilst these are genuine race tyres designed for competitive performance, beginners can certainly use them. However, beginners might find that the soft compound and tall pin design work best on loose, loamy tracks. If your local track features harder packed dirt or carpet, you may want to start with a more general-purpose tyre before upgrading to the Hex Shot S4.
  • What does the S4 designation mean on these tyres? — The S4 designation indicates the Super Soft rubber compound. This softer material grips loose, loamy terrain exceptionally well but will wear faster on harder surfaces. The softness is the key to achieving maximum traction in the conditions these tyres are designed for.
  • Will these Hex Shot tyres fit my 1/8 scale buggy? — Yes, these tyres are designed for 1/8 scale buggy wheels and are suitable for both front and rear mounting. They are compatible with any standard 1/8 buggy wheels you already own. Always verify your wheel compatibility before purchase.
  • How do the Hex Shot tyres compare to other Pro-Line off-road 1/8 buggy options? — The Hex Shot is specifically engineered for loose and loamy conditions with its distinctive hexagon-pod stepped-pin design. Other Pro-Line tyre options may feature different tread patterns optimised for harder or more varied terrain. The Hex Shot's tall centre pins make it the choice when you need maximum grip in soft dirt.
  • Are the foam inserts included necessary? — Yes, the closed cell foam inserts are essential. They provide structural support to the tyre, prevent sidewall collapse during cornering, and help distribute loads evenly across the pin structure. Always install the inserts when mounting these tyres.
  • What maintenance do these tyres require? — Like all RC tyres, clean the Hex Shot after each use to remove dirt and debris that can affect grip. Inspect the pins regularly for damage or excessive wear. Store your tyres in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the rubber compound longevity.
  • Why do Pro-Line tyres cost more than budget alternatives? — Pro-Line has been manufacturing RC components since 1982 with a commitment to quality and performance. The Hex Shot represents genuine engineering innovation: the latest generation carcass design, precision-moulded pin geometry, and carefully formulated rubber compounds all contribute to superior performance and durability that budget tyres simply cannot match.
