Overview
This is a pair of Buck Shot 1:8 Buggy Tires. The Buck Shot debuted at the 2017 ROAR National Championships and is already a Winner at the hands Pro-Line Team Driver Ty Tessmann! The Buck Shot has pins that are very close in size to the amazing Hole Shot 2.0 but the Buck Shot pins are stacked closer together side to side, which provides significantly longer lasting performance. Unique to the Buck Shot are the alternating elongated bars that provide incredible forward grip! Similar to the extremely popular SwitchBlade tire, the Buck Shot is a directional tire with different tread on the outside compared to the inside, allowing you to mount the tires in the direction that suits your current track conditions. One side of the tire has standard pins, which is ideal for loose or low traction conditions where you want the tire to add side grip and improve steering. When you mount the tire the other direction, the connected side tread (Blade) reduces side traction in high-bite or edgy conditions. Racers who have tried the Buck Shot are saying that it is their new favorite tire! Be the first at your track to win with Pro-Line's new Buck Shot!

Key Features
- Championship-Winning Design — The Buck Shot debuted at the 2017 ROAR National Championships and secured victory through Pro-Line Team Driver Ty Tessmann, proving these tyres can perform under the most competitive racing pressure. This isn't marketing hype; it's documented competitive success that validates the engineering and design philosophy behind every tyre in this range.
- Close-Stacked Pin Design — Whilst the pin size is very similar to the renowned Hole Shot 2.0, the Buck Shot features pins that are stacked considerably closer together side to side. This unique stacking arrangement provides significantly longer-lasting performance compared to other pin-style tyres, meaning you get more laps per tyre set and better value for your racing investment.
- Elongated Bar Tread Pattern — Unique alternating elongated bars woven throughout the tread provide incredible forward grip that translates to better acceleration and more confident cornering through tight sections. This sophisticated tread pattern has been proven to deliver substantial traction improvements in the forward direction, which is critical for maintaining momentum through complex track layouts.
- Directional SwitchBlade Tread Technology — Similar to the extremely popular SwitchBlade tyre system, the Buck Shot features a directional tread pattern with different surface characteristics on the outside edge compared to the inside edge. This revolutionary design allows racers to mount the tyres in either direction depending on their specific track conditions and driving preferences.
- Pins Out Configuration — When mounted with the standard pin side exposed, the tyres provide added side grip and improved steering response, making this configuration ideal for loose or low-traction track conditions where you want the tyre to actively contribute to side grip and steering feel. This setting works particularly well on slippery or freshly watered tracks.
- Blade Out Configuration — When rotated to present the connected side tread (Blade) facing outward, the tyres reduce side traction in high-bite or edgy conditions where excessive side grip can cause unpredictable handling. This configuration excels on tacky, high-traction tracks where control and predictability are more valuable than maximum side grip.
- Lab-Certified Compound Selection — Pro-Line employs rigorous laboratory testing and certification for all tyre compounds, ensuring consistent performance and reliability across every set you purchase. The S3 designation indicates these use pro-grade materials developed specifically for competitive racing applications.
- Maximum Forward Traction — The compound used in these tyres is formulated to deliver maximum grip on low-bite surfaces, which is essential for maintaining drive through acceleration zones and preventing wheel spin on challenging terrain. This performance advantage can be the difference between victory and the runner-up position in close racing.
- Compliant Carcass Construction — The tyre carcass is engineered to be compliant without being unstable, producing reliable traction whilst maintaining controlled expansion during aggressive cornering and acceleration. This balance prevents sudden grip loss whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for consistent lap times throughout a main event.
- Closed Cell Foam Inserts Included — Each pair comes complete with two closed-cell foam inserts specifically matched to the Buck Shot tyre profile, providing the correct cushioning and support to maintain tyre shape under load and prevent delamination during intense racing.
Technical Performance
The Pro-Line Buck Shot S3 represents the latest evolution in 1/8 off-road buggy tyre technology, incorporating compound science and tread design that has been tested and refined at the highest levels of competitive RC racing. The S3 compound is classified as ultra long-lasting material that delivers a substantial leap forward in terms of grip on both dry and slick track surfaces, whilst maintaining stability throughout extended main events without experiencing grip fade that can limit your pace in the final laps. The engineering team at Pro-Line has crafted these tyres specifically for 1/8 scale buggies where precision, predictability and consistency are paramount. The combination of closely-stacked pins with elongated bar tread creates a hybrid grip pattern that performs effectively across varying track conditions without requiring constant tyre changes. The directional design philosophy means serious racers can configure their tyres to match their track preparation strategy, adjusting on the morning of the race as the track conditions evolve. For UK-based RC enthusiasts investing in competitive-grade equipment, the Buck Shot S3 represents genuine value in a sport where tyre choice can genuinely impact race results. The closed-cell foam inserts are critical to maintaining consistent performance, as they prevent excessive deformation that would otherwise lead to inconsistent handling and unpredictable grip levels as the race progresses.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are Buck Shot S3 tyres suitable for competitive 1/8 off-road buggy racing? — Absolutely. These tyres were specifically engineered for competitive racing and have already proven themselves at the ROAR National Championships. If you're setting up a racing buggy and want tyres with genuine competitive credentials and proven performance, the Buck Shot S3 is an excellent choice that will give you confidence on the track.
- What's the difference between Pins Out and Blade Out configurations? — The Pins Out side provides maximum side grip and is ideal for loose, low-traction conditions where you want the tyres to actively add side grip and steering response. The Blade Out side (the connected side tread facing outward) reduces side traction and is better for high-bite, tacky tracks where you want more predictable, controlled handling and less aggressive side grip that might make the car unpredictable.
- How do Buck Shot S3 tyres compare to Hole Shot 2.0? — Whilst the pin size is similar to Hole Shot 2.0 tyres, the Buck Shot features pins that are stacked much closer together side to side. This closer stacking arrangement delivers significantly longer-lasting performance, meaning you get more competitive laps per tyre set before needing to replace them. The Buck Shot also features the unique elongated bar tread design that Hole Shot tyres don't have, providing a different grip characteristic.
- What track conditions are Buck Shot S3 tyres best suited for? — Thanks to their versatile directional design, Buck Shot S3 tyres perform well across a range of conditions. The tight pin stacking and elongated bar tread provide reliable forward traction on loose surfaces, whilst the switchable tread configuration allows you to dial in the right amount of side grip for your specific track conditions. The ultra long-lasting S3 compound also performs consistently in both dry and slick conditions without grip fade.
- Do I need to replace the foam inserts? — The matched closed-cell foam inserts are included with your tyre set and are designed to work with the Buck Shot S3 profile. Over time and extended use, foam can compress and may eventually need replacement, but the inserts provided with this set are matched to deliver optimal performance initially. Some racers purchase additional insert sets to experiment with firmness levels as they fine-tune their setup.
- Are these tyres durable for casual bashing or just racing? — Whilst these are competition-grade racing tyres, their close-stacked pin design actually delivers longer-lasting performance than many alternative designs. However, they are specifically engineered for 1/8 off-road buggy racing where the balance of grip, consistency and durability across competitive sessions is optimised. For casual bashing, they'll perform excellently but are perhaps overkill for non-competitive use.
