Overview
The TLR Silicone Shock Oil, 50WT, 710CST, 4oz represents professional-grade suspension tuning fluid designed specifically for RC racing applications. This product is formulated by Team Losi Racing, a name synonymous with precision engineering and competition-level performance in the RC car UK market. Whether you're competing at your local track, preparing your RC car for weekend bashing, or fine-tuning a competition-grade buggy or truggy, silicone shock oil is an essential component for achieving optimal suspension performance and consistent handling characteristics.
Shock oil viscosity is a critical factor in RC racing performance, directly affecting how quickly your suspension compresses and extends during cornering, acceleration, and braking. The 50WT viscosity rating indicates this is a medium-weight shock fluid suitable for a range of driving conditions and suspension setups. By selecting the correct shock oil weight, you can dramatically improve your vehicle's handling balance, increase traction, and enhance overall drivability on various track surfaces and conditions. TLR's comprehensive range of shock oils allows racers to dial in precisely the right suspension feel for their specific setup and driving style.
This 4oz bottle provides a generous quantity of silicone shock fluid, sufficient for multiple shock refills or to maintain a stock of spares in your pit bag. Silicone-based formulations offer excellent stability across temperature ranges commonly encountered during RC racing sessions, ensuring consistent performance whether you're racing during cooler UK winters or warm summer track days. As an authorised TLR retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Team Losi Racing shock oils, guaranteeing you receive authentic, quality products engineered to the exacting standards racers depend upon.
Key Features
- 50WT Viscosity Rating — This medium-weight classification positions the shock oil in the middle of TLR's viscosity range, making it a versatile choice suitable for a broad spectrum of driving conditions, suspension tuning requirements, and RC vehicle types including buggies, trucks, and truggies.
- 710CST Kinematic Viscosity — The centistoke measurement (CST) provides a precise technical specification of the oil's flow characteristics and thickness, ensuring you can accurately match shock fluid viscosity to your suspension design and track conditions for optimal performance tuning.
- 4oz Bottle Size — The generous 4-ounce capacity provides ample shock fluid for multiple refills across several shocks, or maintaining backup bottles in your pit kit for mid-race adjustments and emergency shock servicing at the track.
- Silicone-Based Formula — Silicone shock oils deliver superior temperature stability and consistency compared to alternative formulations, maintaining predictable damping characteristics across the temperature variations typical in UK racing environments throughout the year.
- Team Losi Racing Engineering — Developed by the engineers at Team Losi Racing, this shock oil represents decades of racing expertise and competition-level development, ensuring you're using fluids trusted by professional racers and serious RC enthusiasts.
- Professional Racing Quality — This is genuine OEM suspension fluid designed specifically for precision RC racing applications, not generic lubricants or multi-purpose fluids, guaranteeing compatibility and performance with TLR RC vehicles and most other quality shock systems.
Technical Performance
The TLR Silicone Shock Oil 50WT represents the middle point in a comprehensive viscosity range offered by Team Losi Racing, positioned between lighter 27.5WT and 37.5WT formulations and heavier options like 45WT. The 710CST kinematic viscosity specification provides precision tuning for suspension damping characteristics, affecting how your shocks respond to track inputs. Silicone-based shock oils are the preferred choice for competitive RC racing because they maintain consistent viscosity across the temperature range experienced during extended racing sessions, weather variations, and between summer and winter UK racing seasons. The 4oz bottle format represents professional pit-side quantities suitable for maintaining multiple vehicles, supporting shock rebuilds, and allowing racers to experiment with different viscosities for setup optimisation. TLR shock oils are engineered to exacting standards compatible with standard shock designs, including piston and rod assemblies, seals, and spring rates found across various 1/10 scale buggies, trucks, and larger truggies. The fluid's stability ensures predictable suspension performance lap after lap, enabling consistent handling feedback and allowing you to reliably tune your vehicle's balance through shock oil selection rather than guesswork.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 50WT shock oil and other TLR viscosity options? — TLR offers shock oils in multiple viscosity grades ranging from 27.5WT (294CST) through to heavier formulations. The 50WT at 710CST sits in the medium-weight range, making it suitable for general-purpose racing use. Lighter oils like 27.5WT or 37.5WT allow faster shock compression for softer suspension feel, whilst heavier options provide increased damping resistance. The correct choice depends on your specific track conditions, vehicle setup, and driving preference.
- How do I know which shock oil viscosity to choose for my RC car? — Shock oil selection depends on multiple factors including your vehicle type, suspension design, track surface, ambient temperature, and personal driving style. Generally, 50WT provides a balanced middle ground suitable for mixed conditions. If your vehicle feels too bouncy or under-damped, heavier oil improves control. If steering feels sluggish or over-damped, lighter oil increases responsiveness. Many racers keep multiple viscosities available for track-day tuning.
- Is this silicone shock oil compatible with my RC buggy or truck? — TLR silicone shock oils are engineered for compatibility with standard RC shock systems across buggies, trucks, and truggies. They work with piston-style shocks and various spring rates common in 1/10 scale vehicles. However, always verify your specific vehicle's shock specifications before purchase, as some specialty vehicles may require different formulations.
- Can I mix different viscosity shock oils together? — Mixing shock oils of different viscosities is not recommended as it compromises the precise damping characteristics you're trying to achieve. If you need to adjust viscosity, completely drain existing oil and refill with the new weight. Precise shock tuning requires using a single, specified viscosity.
- How often should I change my RC shock oil? — Shock oil should be changed whenever you notice degraded performance, visible contamination, or after extended use periods. Many serious racers refresh shock fluid regularly as part of routine maintenance, especially before major competitions. Regular oil changes maintain optimal suspension performance.
- What makes silicone shock oil better than alternative formulations? — Silicone-based shock oils are the racing standard because they maintain consistent viscosity across temperature variations, resist oxidation, and provide predictable damping characteristics throughout extended racing sessions. This stability is crucial for competitive tuning where consistency lap-to-lap enables accurate setup optimisation.
