Overview

The TLR Carbon Laydown Rear Tower +2mm Conversion for the Team Losi Racing 22 5.0 is a precision chassis component designed for competitive RC buggy racing. This carbon fibre rear tower conversion is engineered to optimise the geometry and handling characteristics of your 1/10 2WD buggy, making it an essential upgrade for drivers looking to fine-tune their vehicle's performance on the track. Whether you're competing in a local RC club event or pushing your skills at a regional race meeting, this component allows you to dial in your setup precisely for dirt, clay or carpet surfaces.

Team Losi Racing components are recognised worldwide for their quality and precision engineering, trusted by top RC racers and hobby enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. The Carbon Laydown Rear Tower +2mm Conversion represents the kind of detailed upgrade that separates winning setups from standard configurations, offering drivers the ability to adjust their buggy's handling balance and weight distribution. This is the perfect addition to your TLR 22 5.0 kit, whether you're building a brand-new race machine or refining an existing setup for better performance.

RC car racing in the UK has grown significantly, with numerous clubs and events welcoming both experienced competitors and newcomers to the sport. Having the right parts, like this carbon laydown rear tower conversion, gives you the competitive edge you need to succeed on any surface. This component is compatible with multiple versions of the popular TLR 22 5.0 platform, including the AC Race Kit, DC Race Kit and Spec Racing Kit variants.

Key Features

  • Carbon fibre construction — The rear tower is manufactured from high-quality carbon fibre, which provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio whilst keeping the overall chassis as light as possible for improved acceleration and handling responsiveness.
  • Laydown design — The laydown configuration is engineered to lower the centre of gravity of your buggy, which improves stability through corners and helps maintain consistent traction on technical track sections.
  • +2mm conversion offset — This specific +2mm geometry change allows you to fine-tune your buggy's rear axle height and suspension geometry, giving you control over how your vehicle responds to track conditions and driving style.
  • Precision engineering — Team Losi Racing components are manufactured to exact tolerances, ensuring perfect fitment and repeatable performance across multiple sessions and events.
  • Upgrade component — This is designed as an optional upgrade part, allowing you to gradually improve your TLR 22 5.0 without having to replace the entire chassis.
  • Compatibility with multiple kits — Works as a replacement or conversion part for the TLR03017, TLR03016 and TLR03018 buggy variants, making it versatile across the TLR 22 5.0 range.

Technical Performance

The Carbon Laydown Rear Tower +2mm Conversion is classified as a chassis part, which means it plays a fundamental role in determining how your 1/10 2WD buggy behaves on the track. By upgrading from the standard rear tower base to this carbon laydown version, you're making a geometry change that affects suspension kinematics, weight distribution and overall handling balance. The +2mm offset allows drivers to adjust their rear ride height and axle geometry, which directly impacts how the buggy transfers weight through corners, maintains traction on acceleration and brakes, and responds to mid-corner adjustments. Carbon fibre as a material offers superior rigidity compared to some alternative materials, meaning the tower resists flexing and twisting under race conditions, translating to more predictable and repeatable handling characteristics. This level of precision is what separates competitive race setups from casual bash buggies, and is why serious RC racing teams in the UK and internationally invest in quality component upgrades like this one. The laydown design specifically reduces the overall height of the rear tower assembly, which lowers your centre of gravity and improves cornering speed and stability on high-grip surfaces like asphalt or well-maintained carpet tracks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a carbon laydown rear tower and why would I need one for my RC buggy? — A rear tower is a structural chassis component that supports your buggy's rear suspension and drivetrain. A laydown design lowers the mounting position, which drops your centre of gravity for improved handling. The +2mm conversion geometry allows you to fine-tune how your buggy sits and responds to track conditions, making it essential for serious competitors looking to dial in their setup.
  • Which TLR 22 5.0 models is this compatible with? — This carbon laydown rear tower conversion is compatible with the TLR03017 (1/10 22 5.0 2WD Buggy AC Race Kit for Astro/Carpet), the TLR03016 (1/10 22 5.0 2WD Buggy DC Race Kit for Dirt/Clay) and the TLR03018 (1/10 22 5.0 2WD Spec Racing Kit for Dirt/Clay). It functions as a replacement or upgrade part for the standard Carbon Rear Tower Base.
  • Is this a beginner-friendly upgrade or for advanced racers? — This is primarily a competition-level upgrade component designed for drivers who are already familiar with their buggy's basic setup and are looking to fine-tune performance. It's not a beginner part in the sense that it requires understanding of suspension geometry and how chassis changes affect handling, but it's absolutely worth upgrading to if you're racing competitively.
  • What does the +2mm specification mean? — The +2mm refers to a geometry offset that adjusts your buggy's rear axle height and suspension angles by 2 millimetres. This small change has measurable effects on how your vehicle handles, and allows you to dial in your setup between different track conditions or driving preferences.
  • Do I need any tools or other parts to install this? — This is a direct replacement component, so you should have all the fasteners and parts needed if you're upgrading from the standard rear tower. Always check the TLR 22 5.0 assembly manual to confirm what hardware is required for your specific kit variant.
  • Will this make my RC buggy faster? — Not directly faster in terms of top speed, but the improved stability and handling characteristics from lowering your centre of gravity and optimising suspension geometry can definitely help you maintain higher corner speeds and execute smoother, faster lines through technical sections of the track.
