Overview

The Team Losi Racing Machined Shock Pistons, 2.3mm, 2 x 1.7mm, G3 (2) are precision-engineered replacement components designed for serious 1/10 scale 4WD RC buggy racers in the UK and beyond. These machined shock pistons are essential maintenance and tuning parts for the TLR 22X-4 ELITE race buggy, a ROAR-winning platform that demands podium-ready performance on dirt and clay tracks. Whether you're competing at a high level or pushing your RC car to its limits during weekend bashing sessions, having the correct shock piston specification is critical to maintaining optimal suspension performance and vehicle handling characteristics.

Manufactured by Team Losi Racing with the same exacting standards applied to their factory competition vehicles, these machined shock pistons represent the kind of precision engineering that separates winning setups from mediocre ones. The G3 generation shocks are a proven platform in competitive RC racing, and these specific pistons with their 2.3mm main bore and dual 1.7mm secondary orifices offer a particular damping profile that suits specific track conditions and driving styles. Every serious RC racer knows that suspension tuning is where races are won and lost, making genuine OEM replacement parts like these an investment in performance.

Key Features

  • Machined Construction — These shock pistons are precision-machined rather than stamped, ensuring consistent bore tolerances and orifice sizing that directly impact damping characteristics and suspension response during acceleration, braking, and cornering on the track.
  • 2.3mm Main Orifice — The primary 2.3mm bore delivers a specific damping rate that professional TLR engineers have validated through extensive testing and competition use with factory-backed drivers worldwide.
  • Dual 1.7mm Secondary Orifices — The two secondary 1.7mm ports provide a layered damping response that allows the suspension to transition smoothly between compression and rebound phases, critical for maintaining traction on variable track surfaces.
  • G3 Shock Compatibility — These pistons are engineered specifically for the latest generation G3 shock platform, ensuring perfect fitment and performance alignment with your TLR 22X-4 ELITE suspension system.
  • Factory-Approved Specification — Every set of these pistons represents a proven racing specification that TLR factory team drivers have used to win competitions at the highest levels of 1/10 scale buggy racing.
  • Quantity of Two — This package includes two machined shock pistons, providing replacements for a single shock assembly or allowing you to experiment with different piston orifice combinations across multiple shocks for fine-tuned suspension geometry.

Technical Performance

The TLR 333024 machined shock pistons represent precision engineering at its finest for competitive 1/10 scale RC buggy racing. Machining—rather than stamping—ensures that each piston maintains tight tolerances across the 2.3mm main orifice and the dual 1.7mm secondary ports. These specific orifice diameters create a carefully calculated damping curve that influences how your RC buggy's suspension absorbs bumps during acceleration, manages weight transfer through corners, and maintains traction during braking on dirt tracks. The dual secondary orifices represent a more sophisticated damping design than single-port alternatives, allowing the shock fluid to take different flow paths depending on compression speed and stroke phase. This creates progressive damping behaviour where the suspension responds differently to small bumps versus large impacts, essential for maintaining control across the varied terrain found on modern RC racing tracks. The G3 shock system these pistons are designed for uses high-quality materials throughout its construction, with the piston acting as the critical flow-control component that determines the entire suspension's performance character. Quality machined pistons maintain their dimensional accuracy across repeated shock cycles, preventing the performance degradation that can occur with lower-quality stamped alternatives. For competitive RC racing in the UK and internationally, these genuine TLR parts are manufactured to the same specifications trusted by professional drivers on the world stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between machined and stamped shock pistons for my RC buggy? — Machined pistons like these are precision-manufactured to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring consistent bore diameters and orifice sizing that directly control damping fluid flow. Stamped pistons are less consistent and can vary slightly from unit to unit, leading to unpredictable suspension behaviour. For serious RC racing, machined pistons provide the precision and reliability needed to achieve repeatable performance lap after lap, which is why TLR factory competitors use them exclusively.
  • How do I know which piston orifice size I need for my RC buggy? — The orifice size determines your shock's damping rate: larger orifices allow more fluid flow and create a softer, more compliant suspension, whilst smaller orifices create stiffer damping. The 2.3mm main with dual 1.7mm secondary ports on this set suits specific track conditions and driving styles. Experienced racers often keep multiple piston sizes on hand to adjust suspension performance for different venues, weather conditions, or setup preferences without buying complete new shocks.
  • Are these pistons compatible with the TLR 22X-4 ELITE? — Yes, these G3 machined shock pistons are designed specifically for the TLR 22X-4 ELITE shock system and represent genuine OEM replacement parts that will fit precisely and perform identically to those supplied with the buggy when new.
  • Can I use these pistons to adjust my RC buggy's handling characteristics? — Absolutely. Shock piston orifice sizing is one of the most direct and effective tuning methods available. By changing piston orifices, you can make your suspension softer or stiffer without changing springs or oil viscosity, making these pistons valuable tools for dialling in your setup at different tracks or adjusting for varying track conditions throughout the racing season.
  • Why are genuine TLR replacement parts important for my RC racer? — Genuine parts are engineered and tested specifically for your vehicle platform, ensuring perfect fitment and performance alignment. They're also manufactured to the same quality standards as the original components, providing reliability and consistency that cheaper alternatives cannot match. For competitive racing, using genuine parts is an investment in performance and reliability.
