Overview
The TLR Shock Shaft, 3mm x 42.7mm, TiCN, G3 is a precision replacement component engineered for the championship-winning TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller 1/10 scale RC buggy. This individual shock shaft is manufactured to the exacting standards that Team Losi Racing's factory race team demands, ensuring perfect fit and performance in competitive RC racing environments. Whether you're running a ready-to-run RC car UK or competing at the highest levels of 1/10 scale buggy racing, this replacement part maintains the factory-specification performance your buggy deserves.
Designed specifically for the G3 shock system, this shock shaft features premium TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, which significantly enhances durability and reduces friction in the demanding conditions of dirt and clay track racing. The 3mm diameter and 42.7mm length specification matches perfectly with the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller's G3 big bore shock design, ensuring smooth and reliable damping performance. This is an essential replacement part for any serious RC racer looking to maintain their buggy in championship-ready condition.
Many RC racers consider the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller to be one of the best-driving 2WD competition buggies ever produced by Team Losi Racing. The G3 12mm big bore shocks give the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller plush handling for better cornering on both smooth and rough racing surfaces. By replacing worn or damaged shock shafts with genuine TLR parts like this one, you're maintaining the competitive edge that makes the TLR 22 5.0 DC such a formidable racing platform.
Key Features
- Premium TiCN Coating — The Titanium Carbonitride coating provides superior hardness and wear resistance compared to standard steel, ensuring the shock shaft maintains its smooth operation throughout extended racing sessions and withstands the rigours of competitive racing without degrading.
- G3 Compatibility — This shaft is specifically engineered for the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller's advanced G3 shock system, guaranteeing perfect integration with the 12mm big bore shock design that delivers the plush handling characteristics essential for championship racing.
- Factory Race Team Specification — Assembled to the exact factory specifications used by Team Losi Racing's competition drivers who win RC races around the world, this component represents proven, field-tested engineering from one of the most successful RC racing manufacturers.
- Individual Replacement — Sold as a single shaft, allowing you to replace just the component that needs service, making maintenance and parts management more cost-effective than purchasing complete shock assemblies.
- Precise Dimensions — The 3mm diameter and 42.7mm length specifications ensure perfect fit within the TLR 22 5.0 DC shock body, maintaining the precise damping characteristics and suspension geometry essential for competitive performance.
- Reduced Friction Performance — The TiCN coating minimises friction between the shaft and seal bushings, allowing for more responsive damping feedback and extending the service life of the entire shock assembly.
Technical Performance
The TLR Shock Shaft represents the engineering excellence that Team Losi Racing has built into the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller platform. With its 3mm diameter and 42.7mm length, this shaft is perfectly matched to the G3 shock body and machined shock pistons available for the TLR 22 5.0 system. The TiCN surface treatment significantly improves the material properties compared to untreated steel, providing superior hardness that resists the microscopic damage caused by repeated compression and extension cycles during racing. This coating also reduces friction, which means the shock's dampening fluid can work more efficiently without fighting against drag on the shaft itself. The result is more responsive handling, particularly noticeable when transitioning through quick directional changes and when making fine tuning adjustments to suspension stiffness. Built from premium materials identical to those used in the factory team's competition vehicles, this shock shaft works in harmony with other G3 components including the shock seal bushings (available in machined aluminium), X-ring seal sets for maximum durability, and the comprehensive shock hardware kits. The TLR 22 5.0 DC's 2.0mm milled aluminium chassis offers the right amount of flex and rigidity for smooth cornering and to maintain balance when landing from jumps without bouncing, and this shock shaft is the critical link that transfers suspension forces precisely to that chassis. Whether you're running on smooth carpet tracks, technical clay layouts, or rough off-road surfaces, this precision component ensures the shock system maintains factory performance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is TiCN coating and why does it matter on shock shafts for RC buggies? — TiCN stands for Titanium Carbonitride, a premium surface coating that dramatically increases hardness and reduces friction. For RC shock shafts, this matters because the shaft moves continuously through the shock body during compression and extension, creating friction against the seals. The TiCN coating reduces this friction, allowing the dampening oil to work more efficiently and providing more responsive, predictable handling. It also extends the lifespan of the shaft by preventing wear and corrosion, meaning you'll need fewer replacements over the life of your racing buggy.
- Is this shock shaft compatible with all TLR buggies? — This shaft is specifically designed for the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller and its G3 shock system. It is not compatible with other TLR models or shock systems without the G3 designation. Before ordering, confirm your buggy uses G3 shocks with 3mm shaft diameter specification.
- Why would I need to replace a shock shaft? — During racing and regular use, shock shafts can become damaged from impacts, bent from crashes, or worn from normal operation. A bent or damaged shaft will cause the shock to bind or produce uneven damping, negatively affecting handling and suspension performance. Replacement is straightforward and recommended whenever you notice inconsistent shock action or visible damage to the shaft.
- Can I use this with the standard TLR 42mm shock set? — Yes, the TLR233064 42mm Shock Set, G3, 3mm, TiCN includes this exact specification shaft and is designed specifically for the TLR 22 5.0 DC Race Roller. If you want to upgrade just the shaft component of an existing shock assembly, this individual part is the correct choice.
- How does this compare to the standard steel shaft? — The TiCN coating provides superior hardness, wear resistance, and reduced friction compared to untreated steel shafts. This translates to longer-lasting components and more responsive damping characteristics, which is why Team Losi Racing's factory race team uses TiCN-coated shafts on their competition vehicles.
- What maintenance does this shock shaft require? — Keep the shaft clean and apply shock oil/grease around the seal bushings during regular maintenance. The TLR77002 Shock O-ring Grease, 8cc is recommended for maintaining the seals and keeping the shaft sliding smoothly. After racing, inspect for any visible bending or damage and replace if necessary.
