This brushless tail motor is designed with precision engineering to ensure smooth, responsive tail control—a critical element for stable hovering and smooth directional changes in RC helicopter flight. Whether you're a seasoned RC helicopter pilot or stepping into the exciting world of brushless RC helicopters for the first time, maintaining your tail motor in peak condition is essential for safe, enjoyable flying. This authentic Blade spare part is the ideal replacement if your existing tail motor requires service, or an excellent upgrade component for pilots looking to optimise their helicopter's performance.
Blade helicopters have earned recognition across the UK and internationally for delivering quality, reliability and precision engineering at every scale. From public parks to dedicated flying fields, Blade models are intentionally designed to provide the most rewarding flying experience possible, regardless of your skill level. The 130 S and 150 S models represent the entry-level to intermediate segment of Blade's helicopter range, and they depend on quality components like this brushless tail motor to perform consistently. By choosing genuine Blade spares and upgrades, you invest in your helicopter's longevity and flight characteristics.
The Z-BLH9311 is a brushless motor specifically calibrated for the tail rotor duty cycle of these smaller Blade helicopters. Brushless technology offers several advantages over traditional brushed motors: improved efficiency, reduced maintenance requirements, longer service life, and more consistent performance across battery voltage ranges. This makes it an ideal choice for UK RC helicopter enthusiasts who want reliable, low-maintenance flight equipment.
Key Features
- Brushless Motor Technology — Brushless motors eliminate the carbon brush and commutator found in older brushed designs, resulting in significantly reduced maintenance, improved electrical efficiency, and extended operational lifespan. This means fewer moving parts to wear out and more consistent power delivery throughout your battery's charge cycle, giving you reliable tail rotor control flight after flight.
- Genuine Blade Component — This motor is manufactured to Blade's exacting specifications and is the original equipment designed for the 130 S and 150 S helicopter models. Using genuine components ensures perfect fitment, optimal performance characteristics, and compatibility with all other helicopter systems including the ESC, airframe and linkages.
- Optimised for Tail Rotor Duty — Unlike general-purpose brushless motors, the Z-BLH9311 is specifically engineered for tail rotor applications, delivering the precise power curve and response characteristics needed for stable directional control in the 130 S and 150 S size range. This specialised design ensures smooth anti-torque correction during all flight phases.
- Direct Replacement for 130 S and 150 S Models — This motor is engineered as an exact drop-in replacement for both the Blade 130 S and Blade 150 S helicopter models, simplifying the repair or upgrade process. No modifications to your airframe, electrical system or mounting hardware are required.
- Reliable Performance in UK Conditions — Brushless motors are less susceptible to moisture and temperature fluctuations than brushed alternatives, making them an excellent choice for flying in variable UK weather conditions throughout the year.
Technical Performance
The BLH Brushless Tail Motor Z-BLH9311 is engineered to deliver smooth, responsive tail rotor performance essential for stable helicopter flight. As a brushless motor, it eliminates the carbon brush wear found in traditional brushed tail motors, providing extended service intervals and more consistent power delivery. The motor's engineering is optimised specifically for tail rotor duty in the lightweight, responsive envelope of the Blade 130 S and 150 S helicopter airframes. Brushless motors operate with electronic commutation via the helicopter's electronic speed controller (ESC), which provides precise, infinitely variable speed control for smooth tail authority throughout all flight regimes—from low-speed hovering to forward flight. The motor integrates seamlessly with the Blade 150 S Dual Brushless ESC (BLH5448) or equivalent speed control system, accepting the signal from your helicopter's receiver to modulate tail rotor speed. The compact form factor and lightweight design ensure minimal inertia, allowing rapid response to stick inputs for precise directional control. This motor is suitable for operation on standard 3-cell LiPo batteries (3S, 11.1V nominal) as specified for the 130 S and 150 S helicopter models, delivering consistent performance across the battery's discharge curve. The brushless design also runs cooler than brushed alternatives due to the elimination of brush friction losses, contributing to longer operating life and improved reliability during extended flying sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the BLH Brushless Tail Motor suitable for the Blade 130 S and 150 S? — Yes, the Z-BLH9311 is specifically engineered as a replacement or upgrade tail motor for both the Blade 130 S and Blade 150 S helicopter models. It provides a direct fit without requiring modifications to your airframe or electrical system, making it an ideal genuine spare part for UK RC helicopter pilots.
- What are the advantages of brushless tail motors over brushed motors? — Brushless motors offer several key benefits: they eliminate carbon brush wear, require no maintenance of brush contacts, deliver more consistent power throughout the battery discharge curve, operate more efficiently (converting electrical energy to mechanical power with less waste), run cooler due to reduced internal friction, and have a significantly longer service life. For recreational RC helicopter flying in the UK, these advantages mean better reliability and lower long-term maintenance costs.
- What ESC does this tail motor require? — The Z-BLH9311 is compatible with Blade's brushless ESC systems designed for the 130 S and 150 S models, such as the Blade 150 S Dual Brushless ESC (BLH5448). Your helicopter's receiver sends a signal to the ESC, which controls the motor speed. Ensure your ESC is rated for brushless tail motor operation and is properly configured for your helicopter model.
- What battery voltage does this motor need? — The BLH Brushless Tail Motor is designed for operation on 3-cell LiPo batteries (3S, 11.1V nominal) as specified for the Blade 130 S and 150 S helicopter models. Your helicopter's main battery powers both the main motor and tail motor through the respective ESCs. Always verify the correct battery specification in your helicopter's manual before flying.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners? — The Z-BLH9311 is a direct replacement component for the Blade 130 S and 150 S, both of which are considered entry-level to intermediate RC helicopters. If you currently fly one of these models and need to replace a damaged tail motor, installation is straightforward for anyone with basic mechanical skills. Blade helicopters in this class are designed to deliver rewarding flying experiences for pilots of all experience levels, and genuine Blade components like this motor ensure reliable performance as you build your RC helicopter skills.
- How do I know if my tail motor needs replacement? — Signs of tail motor wear or failure include inconsistent tail authority (difficulty maintaining heading), twitchy or sluggish tail response, grinding or unusual noises from the tail boom area, or a tail motor that won't spin up when commanded. If you experience any of these symptoms, inspect the motor mount and linkages first; if those are intact, a replacement brushless tail motor like the Z-BLH9311 is likely the solution.
- Can I upgrade my 130 S or 150 S by fitting this motor as a performance enhancement? — The Z-BLH9311 is the specified tail motor for the 130 S and 150 S models, so it represents the manufacturer's optimised specification rather than an upgrade option. However, if your helicopter is fitted with an older brushed tail motor, upgrading to this brushless motor will provide improved reliability, lower maintenance, and more consistent performance—making it a worthwhile enhancement for UK pilots seeking more dependable equipment.
