Overview
The AXIAL Dig Transmission Components for the Capra 1.9 UTB are essential upgrade parts designed to unlock advanced rock crawling capabilities on your 1/10 scale Axial Capra platform. These drivetrain spares represent a significant enhancement to your RC crawler's performance, enabling the sophisticated Dig function that allows you to lock the rear drive axle independently from the front wheels. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast looking to maximise your vehicle's potential or a dedicated rock crawler wanting to master technical terrain, these transmission components transform how your Capra 1.9 responds to obstacles and challenging courses.
The Dig transmission setup is a game-changer for RC rock crawling in the UK and beyond. In full-scale crawling competition, subtle maneuvering is essential to avoid losing points from reversing or hitting markers on a course. This component set brings that same level of precision control to your 1/10 scale RC buggy, giving you the realistic rock crawling experience that makes the UTB10 platform so popular among dedicated crawlers. These components work seamlessly with the Capra 1.9's 4-wheel steering system to deliver unparalleled manoeuvrability across trails, competition courses, and backyard crawl grounds.
Designed as spare parts for the Axial Capra platform, these Dig transmission components ensure you have the precise engineering and quality construction that Axial is recognised for throughout the RC hobby. Installation requires upgrading to a 4-channel radio and micro servo, transforming your Capra from factory configuration into a fully-featured rock crawler with both Dig and rear steering capabilities.
Key Features
- Dig Function Activation — The Dig transmission components enable you to lock the rear drive axle whilst maintaining front wheel control, allowing you to pull the Capra 1.9 around by the front end whilst holding the rear in place. This advanced manoeuvre is crucial for conquering the most technical obstacles and mastering competition-level rock crawling techniques.
- Metal Universals — Both front and rear axles feature metal universals that produce smooth action for an efficient and durable drivetrain, ensuring reliable performance through repeated climbs, descents, and technical crawling sequences without flex or play.
- Transmission Design Compatibility — These components are specifically engineered to work with the Capra 1.9's transmission system, which comes with a spacer installed from the factory that disables the Dig function. Removing this spacer and installing your micro servo activates these capabilities.
- 4-Channel Radio Integration — The Dig setup works via the transmitter button on a 4-channel Spektrum radio system, giving you intuitive control over rear axle lock with a simple flick of a button during your crawling session.
- Stainless Steel Construction — All links and suspension pivots associated with the transmission system are manufactured from rust-proof stainless steel, providing precise and durable suspension points that withstand repeated stress and exposure to outdoor terrain.
- Genuine Axial Engineering — These are authentic AXIAL components manufactured to the brand's exacting standards, ensuring perfect fit, finish, and reliability with your existing Capra 1.9 platform and drivetrain assembly.
Technical Performance
The Dig transmission components represent precision engineering at its finest for 1/10 scale rock crawling. These drivetrain spares are built to work seamlessly with the Capra 1.9's metal universal joints and the Currie F9 Portal Axles that provide a 7.39:1 gear ratio, ensuring you have the mechanical advantage needed for technical climbing whilst maintaining the manoeuvrability that defines competitive rock crawling. The transmission system works in conjunction with the platform's 4-wheel steering architecture, which allows you to steer both front and rear axles independently for unparalleled obstacle navigation. Installation requires integration with a 4-channel micro servo system, transforming the factory transmission into a fully-featured Dig setup that operates through your radio's third and fourth channels. The hard-anodised aluminium shock bodies and stainless steel suspension components work in harmony with these transmission parts to create a cohesive drivetrain that can handle sustained rock crawling pressure without compromise. The Capra 1.9's 1/10 scale proportions and tube chassis design are optimised for the kind of suspension and tyre clearance that makes technical crawling possible, and these transmission components are engineered to maximise that potential through precise mechanical control.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does Dig mean on an RC rock crawler and how does it improve performance? — Dig is a function that allows you to lock the rear drive axle independently whilst the front wheels remain controllable through normal steering. This means you can position the Capra 1.9 by pulling it around the front end whilst the rear stays planted in place, essential for conquering difficult obstacles and competition rock crawling courses. It replicates the technical manoeuvres used in full-scale crawling competition where subtle positioning is critical to avoid losing points.
- Do I need a 4-channel radio to use the Dig transmission components? — Yes, the Dig function requires a 4-channel radio system. The standard RTR Capra 1.9 comes with a Spektrum DX3 transmitter, which is 3-channel. You will need to upgrade to a 4-channel radio system to activate and control the Dig function. Many RC enthusiasts upgrade their radio system when adding these transmission components.
- What servo do I need for the Dig setup? — You will need a micro servo for rear axle control. The transmission comes with a spacer installed from the factory that must be removed, and the micro servo is installed in its place to control the Dig function activation.
- Are these components compatible with all Capra models? — These Dig transmission components are specifically designed for the Axial Capra 1.9 UTB platform. They are part of the Capra 1.9 drivetrain system and work with the 4WS (4-wheel steering) architecture and metal universal joints that characterise this platform.
- Can I install these components myself? — These are specialist drivetrain components that require transmission disassembly and integration with a micro servo system. Installation is recommended for users with RC mechanical experience or preferably by a qualified RC technician. The transmission components work in harmony with your existing Capra assembly, so careful installation is essential for proper Dig function.
- What is the 7.39:1 gear ratio mentioned for the Capra? — The Capra 1.9 uses Currie F9 Portal Axles which provide a 7.39:1 gear ratio. This gives you excellent low-end torque for climbing technical obstacles whilst the gear ratio is engineered to work with brushed motor performance on a 1/10 scale rock crawler platform.
- How do these components enhance rock crawling performance? — The Dig transmission components give you the ability to execute precise manoeuvres that are impossible without them. In competition rock crawling, vehicles must navigate courses without reversing or hitting markers. Dig capability lets you hold the rear axle stationary whilst rotating the front end into position, mimicking the techniques used by full-scale crawling competitors and giving your RC buggy genuine competition-level capability.
