Overview
The AXIAL DIG Upgrade Set Z-AX30793 is a premium transmission upgrade component designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive crawlers across the UK. This patent-pending dig transmission system transforms your Axial RC crawler by adding a revolutionary third drivetrain function, giving you unprecedented control and capability when tackling extreme terrain. Whether you're navigating technical rock gardens, conquering steep descents, or executing precision turns on challenging courses, this upgrade set delivers the mechanical advantage you need to dominate every obstacle.
If you own an Axial RC vehicle with a compatible dig transmission case, this upgrade is the next logical step in your build. The AXIAL DIG Upgrade Set brings professional-grade performance to your RC car UK setup, transforming a standard two-function transmission into a three-function powerhouse. This means you gain access to 4x4 high-traction mode, 4x2 freewheel mode for speed, and the revolutionary Dig mode that locks the rear axle—perfect for extreme climbs, rapid descents and those impossibly tight technical turns where precision and traction are everything.
Built with sintered steel working internals and a hardened steel main slider shaft, this is not a cheap upgrade—it's an investment in durability, reliability and performance. All hardware is included for straightforward bolt-on application, meaning you can have your crawler transformed and ready to hit the trails within hours. This is the choice of dedicated RC enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on capability.
Key Features
- Three-Function Transmission System — The dig transmission case upgrade gives you access to 4x4, 4x2 freewheel, and revolutionary Dig (rear locked) modes, meaning you have the right gearing and traction setting for any terrain, obstacle or driving situation you encounter on UK trails.
- Patent-Pending Dig Technology — This innovative drive mode locks the rear axle, transforming your RC crawler's climbing and descending capabilities whilst maintaining precision control during tight technical manoeuvres that would otherwise be impossible.
- All-Steel Output Shafts — The transmission features robust all-steel output components that distribute power more effectively and withstand the extreme stresses of rock crawling, cliff climbing and aggressive terrain negotiation.
- Sintered Steel Working Internals — Premium sintered steel gears and internal components deliver superior durability, wear resistance and longevity compared to standard plastic or soft-metal alternatives, ensuring thousands of hours of reliable operation.
- Hardened Steel Main Slider Shaft — The central slider shaft is hardened for maximum strength and precision, enabling smooth mode transitions between 4x4, freewheel and dig functions without grinding, slipping or mechanical degradation over time.
- Complete Hardware Included — Everything you need comes in the box: servo linkage, slider parts and a new output shaft, plus all mounting hardware for immediate bolt-on installation with zero additional purchases required.
- Servo Linkage Components — Precision-engineered servo linkage allows your receiver servo to seamlessly control and select between the three transmission modes, giving you independent four-wheel-drive, two-wheel-drive and dig locking functions from a single servo channel.
- Compatible with Axial Dig Transmission Case — This upgrade set is engineered specifically for Axial's dig transmission case, ensuring perfect fitment, zero modifications and reliable long-term compatibility.
Technical Performance
The AXIAL DIG Upgrade Set represents a significant leap forward in transmission technology for rock crawlers and extreme terrain RC vehicles. Built around a foundation of sintered steel working internals and a hardened steel main slider shaft, this upgrade delivers the mechanical robustness required for demanding driving. The three-function transmission system—4x4 high traction, 4x2 freewheel for efficiency, and the innovative Dig mode with rear axle locking—gives you unparalleled flexibility in how you approach obstacles and terrain. The all-steel output shafts ensure power is transmitted efficiently without flex or slippage, whilst the precision engineering of the slider mechanism allows smooth, reliable transitions between modes. The servo linkage system is engineered for precision control, meaning your servo commands translate directly into mode selection without delay or mechanical play. This is engineering for serious crawling: every component, every material choice, and every design decision prioritises durability, reliability and capability on the trail. The patent-pending dig technology represents years of development by Axial engineers to create a transmission mode that genuinely solves problems on extreme terrain. Installation is straightforward thanks to the inclusion of all necessary hardware, making this an accessible upgrade even for builders who are relatively new to transmission tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is dig mode and why do I need it for my RC crawler? — Dig mode locks your rear axle, creating maximum traction and control during extreme climbs and descents. This patent-pending technology solves the problem of wheel slip on near-vertical terrain and allows you to execute precision manoeuvres in tight technical sections that would be impossible with standard two-function transmissions. For serious rock crawlers and extreme terrain enthusiasts across the UK, dig mode is the difference between conquering a course and getting stuck.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This upgrade is best suited to experienced RC builders and crawling enthusiasts who already understand transmission mechanics and have experience building or modifying Axial vehicles. If you're new to RC, start with a complete ready-to-run crawler before attempting transmission upgrades. However, once you're comfortable with your vehicle, the straightforward bolt-on design makes this accessible for intermediate builders.
- What compatibility do I need before purchasing? — You must own an Axial vehicle equipped with a compatible dig transmission case. This upgrade set is designed specifically for that case and cannot be retrofitted to standard transmissions. Check your Axial documentation or consult with RC Model Shop to confirm your vehicle supports this upgrade before ordering.
- Does this upgrade include a servo? — No, the servo is not included in this upgrade set. You will need a capable servo that can handle transmission mode selection. The servo linkage is included in the box and connects to your existing receiver servo to control the three transmission modes.
- How difficult is installation? — Installation is straightforward for builders with basic mechanical skills and tools. All necessary hardware is included, and the system is designed for bolt-on application. The servo linkage connects simply to your receiver servo. If you're comfortable working on RC vehicles, you can complete this upgrade in one session. If you're uncertain, many local RC shops and clubs offer installation services.
- Will this improve my climbing performance? — Yes, dramatically. The dig mode's rear axle locking provides maximum traction on extreme climbs and prevents wheel slip that would otherwise cause your crawler to stall or roll backwards. Combined with the flexibility of 4x4 and 4x2 modes, you'll gain the ability to climb steeper terrain and maintain control on descents that previously challenged your vehicle.
- What is the difference between dig mode and standard 4x4? — Standard 4x4 mode provides equal power to all four wheels but allows some wheel slip if traction is lost. Dig mode locks the rear axle completely, eliminating any differential action and maximising traction. This rigid connection is perfect for technical climbing and prevents your rear wheels from spinning independently, giving you absolute control on extreme terrain.
