Overview

The ARRMA 18T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered transmission component designed for RC enthusiasts who want to fine-tune their vehicle's performance. Whether you're running an RC buggy, monster truck, or stadium truck from ARRMA's range, this pinion gear plays a crucial role in determining your vehicle's speed and torque characteristics. As a dedicated RC hobbyist in the UK, you'll appreciate the quality and durability that ARRMA brings to this essential drivetrain component.

This tough steel pinion gear is manufactured using precision CNC machining, ensuring consistent tooth profiles and reliable mesh with your spur gear. The 18-tooth configuration offers a balanced setup for most standard RC applications, making it an ideal choice whether you're a weekend basher enjoying your RC car UK hobby or a serious competitor looking to dial in the perfect gear ratio. The 0.8 Module specification and 1/8 inch (3.175mm) bore diameter make this gear compatible with a wide range of ARRMA vehicles, from 1/8-scale buggies to stadium trucks and monster trucks.

If you're searching for quality RC replacement parts or upgrade components, this pinion gear delivers the precision and durability you need to keep your RC vehicle performing at its best. The inclusion of a matched M4 x 4mm set screw ensures secure mounting on your motor shaft, eliminating any risk of slippage during aggressive driving or racing.

Key Features

  • CNC Machined Steel Construction — Every tooth is precisely manufactured using computer numerical control machining, guaranteeing consistent tooth profiles and smooth engagement with your spur gear. This precision manufacturing process ensures optimal power transmission and reduces wear on both the pinion and spur gears during intense RC driving sessions.
  • Strong and Durable Steel Material — The steel construction provides exceptional strength and longevity, allowing the gear to withstand the extreme forces generated during acceleration, braking and cornering in demanding RC conditions. Unlike softer materials, steel resists tooth stripping and maintains its integrity through countless hours of driving.
  • Wide Tooth Profile Design — The tooth geometry has been optimised for smooth, quiet operation with minimal backlash. This wide profile distributes loads more evenly across each tooth, reducing stress concentration points and extending the service life of both this pinion gear and your matched spur gear.
  • 1/8 Inch Motor Shaft Compatibility — The 3.175mm bore is precisely engineered to fit standard 1/8 inch motor shafts used across the ARRMA RC car range, including infraction, typhon and various stadium truck models, ensuring a secure, wobble-free fit that won't slip under power.
  • Laser Etched Tooth Count — Each gear is clearly marked with its tooth count using laser etching, making it incredibly easy to identify which pinion gear you're holding at a glance. This is especially useful when you maintain multiple pinion gears of different tooth counts for testing different gear ratios.
  • Precision Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The M4 x 4mm set-screw hole is manufactured with precision threading to ensure a tight, secure fit. This prevents the gear from rotating or slipping on your motor shaft, maintaining consistent gear mesh and power delivery throughout your RC driving sessions.
  • Includes Matched Set Screw — Every pinion gear comes complete with an M4 x 4mm set screw, eliminating the need to hunt down the correct fastener separately. This attention to detail makes installation straightforward and ensures you have everything needed for immediate use.

Technical Performance

This 18-tooth pinion gear represents a significant component in your RC vehicle's drivetrain, directly influencing the overall gear ratio when combined with your spur gear. The 0.8 Module specification is a standard pitch used across many ARRMA models, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of vehicles in the ARRMA RC car UK catalogue. The precision CNC machining guarantees tooth concentricity and profile accuracy, which translates to smoother meshing, reduced noise during operation, and extended component lifespan. The steel construction provides the hardness and strength necessary to resist the enormous torque loads generated by brushless motors common in modern 1/8-scale RC vehicles. The wide tooth profile maximises the contact area between the pinion and spur gears, distributing forces more evenly and reducing the risk of catastrophic tooth failure during hard acceleration or high-load driving situations. This engineering attention to detail makes the 18T pinion a reliable choice for both recreational bashers and competitive racers who demand consistent, predictable performance from their RC buggies, trucks and stadium vehicles. The laser-etched identification ensures you can quickly verify which ratio you're running, essential when testing different setups for optimal performance at your local track or bashing spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why would I need to replace or upgrade mine? — The pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your RC vehicle's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear to transfer power to the wheels. Pinion gears with different tooth counts change your vehicle's gear ratio, directly affecting top speed and acceleration characteristics. If your current pinion is worn or stripped, or if you want to adjust your vehicle's performance for different driving conditions or track layouts, you'll need a replacement or alternative pinion gear. The 18-tooth configuration provides a balanced setup suitable for general-purpose driving across various ARRMA models.
  • Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The 18-tooth configuration is considered a standard, versatile pinion size for many ARRMA vehicles, making it an excellent starting point for beginners. The precision construction and included set screw make installation straightforward for anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. If you're new to the hobby and need to replace a worn pinion or just want to experiment with different ratios, this 18T gear is a reliable, cost-effective choice.
  • Which ARRMA models is this pinion gear compatible with? — According to ARRMA's official compatibility list, this 18T 0.8Mod pinion gear suits numerous ARRMA vehicles including the 1/10 Fury 2WD short course truck, the 1/10 Gorgon 2WD monster truck, the 1/10 Granite MEGA 665 4x4 monster truck, the 1/10 Vorteks 2WD stadium truck, the 1/8 Infraction 4x4 all-road street bash vehicle, and the 1/8 Typhon MEGA 665 4x4 buggy. Before purchasing, verify your specific model's compatibility with the detailed fitment list provided by ARRMA.
  • What is the difference between this 18T gear and other tooth counts? — Pinion gears are available in various tooth counts, typically ranging from 15T to 25T and beyond. Lower tooth counts like 15T or 16T produce higher top speeds but lower acceleration and torque. Higher tooth counts like 20T or 22T deliver better acceleration and torque but lower maximum speeds. The 18-tooth configuration strikes a balance between these extremes, offering moderate speed and acceleration characteristics suitable for all-round driving. Your choice depends on whether you prioritise speed or acceleration, and on your local track layout or driving terrain.
  • How do I install this pinion gear on my motor? — Installation involves sliding the gear's 3.175mm bore onto your motor shaft and using the included M4 x 4mm set screw to secure it firmly in place. The set screw prevents the gear from rotating on the shaft during operation. Most users apply a small amount of thread-lock compound to ensure maximum security, though this is not essential for recreational use. Always ensure the set-screw hole is aligned with a flat spot on your motor shaft before tightening.
  • Why is this gear CNC machined rather than injection-moulded or cast? — CNC machining provides superior precision, consistency and durability compared to moulded or cast alternatives. The computer-controlled process guarantees exact tooth profiles, concentricity and surface finish on every single gear produced. This precision ensures smooth, quiet meshing with your spur gear and extends the lifespan of both components. Moulded or cast gears, whilst cheaper, often exhibit inconsistencies that lead to noise, vibration and premature wear.
  • What motor shaft diameter does this gear fit? — This pinion gear is designed for 1/8 inch (3.175mm) motor shaft diameter, which is the standard size for most ARRMA 1/8-scale and certain 1/10-scale vehicles. Always verify your motor shaft diameter before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
