Pinion gears are wearing parts that require periodic replacement as your RC car gets extensive use. Having quality spare gears on hand means you can keep your vehicle running at peak performance without downtime. The ARRMA 30T Mod1 Safe-D8 represents the engineering standard you'd expect from one of the RC industry's most respected manufacturers, offering reliable performance at a competitive price point.
Key Features
- 30 Teeth Configuration — With 30 teeth, this pinion gear delivers a specific gear ratio that influences your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. The tooth count is critical for matching your motor's performance envelope and achieving the optimal balance between torque and velocity for your driving style and terrain.
- Mod1 Gear Pitch — The Mod1 (Module 1) specification is a standardised gear pitch measurement used across ARRMA's product range. This ensures perfect meshing with your spur gear and drivetrain components, providing smooth power delivery, reduced noise, and minimal wear during operation of your RC model.
- Safe-D8 Bore Design — The Safe-D8 bore is ARRMA's proprietary shaft connection system designed to provide secure engagement with your vehicle's motor shaft whilst preventing damage and wobbling. This design element is crucial for maintaining drivetrain integrity and protecting both the pinion gear and motor shaft from premature wear.
- Genuine ARRMA Component — As an authentic ARRMA part, this pinion gear is manufactured to exact specifications and quality standards. Using genuine parts ensures compatibility, reliability, and longevity, protecting your investment in your RC car and maintaining warranty coverage where applicable.
- Affordable Spare Part — Pinion gears are consumable components that wear with use, and having affordable replacements available means you can maintain your vehicle in peak condition without expensive downtime or sourcing delays from across the RC hobby community in the UK.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 30T Mod1 Safe-D8 Pinion Gear is engineered with precision manufacturing standards that ensure smooth engagement with your vehicle's spur gear and drivetrain components. The Mod1 gear pitch specification is a standardised measurement across the ARRMA product ecosystem, meaning this pinion will mesh perfectly with compatible spur gears without binding, slipping, or excessive wear. The Safe-D8 bore design provides a secure mechanical connection to your motor shaft whilst incorporating ARRMA's safety features to prevent damage to both the gear and motor during aggressive driving or crashes. The 30-tooth configuration represents a mid-range gear ratio option within ARRMA's pinion lineup, offering a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed that suits various driving conditions and motor specifications. Whether you're running a high-KV motor for maximum speed on a smooth track or a lower-KV motor for torquey acceleration in rough terrain, the correct pinion gear ratio is essential for extracting optimal performance from your brushless motor setup. Regular inspection and replacement of worn pinion gears is recommended practice for maintaining your RC vehicle's performance characteristics, as worn teeth can cause drivetrain noise, inconsistent power delivery, and increased wear on mating components.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why does my RC car need one? — A pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your motor shaft that meshes with a larger spur gear on your RC vehicle's transmission. The pinion transfers power from the motor to the wheels through the spur gear. The number of teeth on the pinion directly affects your vehicle's performance: fewer teeth equals higher top speed but less acceleration, whilst more teeth increases acceleration but reduces maximum speed. This is why having the correct pinion gear ratio for your motor and driving style is crucial.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears are wearing parts that gradually wear down with use, especially with frequent RC bashing or racing. The frequency of replacement depends on your driving intensity, terrain, and maintenance practices. Many RC enthusiasts keep several spare pinions on hand so they can continue driving whilst others are being cleaned or inspected. If you notice grinding noises, jerky acceleration, or visible tooth wear, it's time to replace your pinion gear.
- Is the ARRMA 30T Mod1 Safe-D8 compatible with all ARRMA models? — The Mod1 pitch and Safe-D8 bore design are standard across many ARRMA vehicles, but compatibility varies by model. You should verify that your specific ARRMA RC car is designed to accept 30-tooth pinions with Safe-D8 bore specification. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop's expert team if you're unsure about compatibility with your particular model.
- What does Mod1 mean? — Mod1 refers to Module 1, which is a standardised measurement of gear pitch used in RC hobby components. The module specification ensures that gears from the same standard will mesh correctly together. Mod1 is one of the most common standards in RC drivetrain components, widely used across ARRMA's product range and many other RC manufacturers.
- What is the Safe-D8 bore and why does it matter? — The Safe-D8 bore is ARRMA's proprietary shaft connection design that provides secure engagement with your motor shaft. The safety design prevents the gear from slipping on the shaft or becoming damaged if your vehicle crashes or experiences sudden deceleration. This design protects both the pinion gear and your motor shaft, extending the life of your drivetrain components.
- Can I use pinion gears from other manufacturers with ARRMA vehicles? — Whilst some aftermarket pinions may physically fit an ARRMA vehicle, using genuine ARRMA components ensures perfect compatibility, proper tooth engagement, and reliable performance. We recommend always using authentic ARRMA pinion gears to maintain your vehicle's performance standards and protect your investment.
