Overview
The E-flite 9g Mini Servo 60mm Short Lead (SPMSA345SL) is a compact, sub-micro digital servo engineered specifically for RC aircraft installations where space and wiring management are critical considerations. Weighing just 9 grams and featuring a 60mm short lead connector, this servo delivers a practical solution for builders working with smaller airframes that demand precise control response without excessive cable runs cluttering the fuselage. Whether you're building an ultra-lightweight RC plane, upgrading an existing micro aircraft, or looking for a reliable spare servo for your RC hobby collection in the UK, this E-flite servo combines lightweight efficiency with digital precision control.
This servo is purpose-built for applications where every gram counts and cable routing needs to be kept tidy. The short 60mm (2.36 inch) lead makes installation straightforward in confined spaces, and the sub-micro classification means it fits perfectly alongside other compact components in smaller RC airframes. E-flite is renowned throughout the RC community for delivering quality components that perform consistently, and this 9g mini servo maintains that reputation by offering reliable servo operation at a competitive price point.
RC enthusiasts looking for an affordable yet dependable servo for their aircraft control surfaces will find this model delivers excellent value. The combination of lightweight construction, digital servo technology, and practical short-lead design makes it an ideal choice for anyone building or maintaining RC aircraft that require precision control in a compact package.
Key Features
- Sub-Micro Form Factor — At just 9 grams, this servo is exceptionally lightweight, which is essential for RC aircraft where every gram of weight reduction directly improves flight performance and reduces power consumption from your batteries.
- 60mm Short Lead Connector — The 60mm (2.36 inch) short lead keeps your wiring tidy and prevents excess cable from cluttering the interior of your aircraft fuselage, simplifying installation and improving cable management in confined spaces.
- Digital Servo Technology — This servo employs digital precision control, which delivers faster and more accurate control response compared to analogue servos, ensuring your aircraft responds precisely to pilot input.
- 40-Tooth Spline Output — The 40-tooth spline is a standard specification that ensures compatibility with a wide range of control horn linkages and accessories available to the RC modeller.
- Dependable Torque Output — With 20.8 oz/in (1.5 kgf·cm) of torque, this servo provides sufficient power to move control surfaces on small to medium aircraft while maintaining smooth, responsive control.
- Plastic Gear Construction — The plastic gear design contributes to the lightweight overall package whilst still delivering reliable performance for typical RC aircraft control duties.
- Wide Operating Voltage Range — Operating from 4.8V to 6.0V, this servo is compatible with both 4-cell NiMH battery packs and standard 2S LiPo battery systems commonly used in RC aircraft.
- Fast Response Time — The 0.12 second travel time for a 60-degree rotation ensures snappy control response, giving you the precision you need for accurate aircraft control during flight.
Technical Performance
The E-flite 9g Mini Servo delivers impressive technical performance for its size and weight classification. Engineered as a digital servo, it processes control signals with greater precision than traditional analogue servos, translating to faster reaction times and smoother control authority over your RC aircraft's control surfaces. The servo operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V voltage window, making it compatible with both nickel-metal hydride and lithium polymer battery systems that dominate the RC aircraft market. Its 0.12 second speed rating for a 60-degree arc of movement ensures responsive control that keeps up with the demands of dynamic flight, whilst the 20.8 oz/in torque output is perfectly calibrated for moving control surfaces on aircraft in the micro to small general categories. The construction employs plastic gears as part of the weight-reduction strategy, which is entirely appropriate for the servo's intended use in lightweight aircraft where durability for standard flying loads is the priority. The 40-tooth spline interface is industry-standard, meaning you'll have no difficulty sourcing compatible control horns and linkages from major RC hobby retailers across the UK and beyond. At 9 grams total weight, this servo exemplifies the kind of engineering that allows modern RC aircraft to achieve impressive flight performance whilst maintaining structural simplicity and ease of maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the E-flite 9g mini servo suitable for my small RC aircraft? — Yes, this servo is purpose-designed for sub-micro and small RC aircraft applications where weight and space are limiting factors. Its 9-gram weight and 60mm short lead make it ideal for compact installations, whilst the digital servo technology ensures precise control response for safe, stable flight.
- What battery voltage does this servo require? — The servo operates from 4.8V to 6.0V, making it compatible with standard 4-cell NiMH battery packs (producing 4.8V nominal) and 2S lithium polymer batteries (typically 7.4V nominal, regulated down to appropriate servo levels). Check your receiver's voltage output or use a servo voltage regulator if running higher-voltage battery systems.
- How much torque does this servo provide? — The servo delivers 20.8 oz/in (1.5 kgf·cm) of torque, which is sufficient for moving control surfaces on small to medium RC aircraft under typical flight loads. This torque rating makes it suitable for aileron, elevator, and rudder control on most micro-format aircraft.
- What is the difference between this digital servo and an analogue servo? — Digital servos like this model process control signals using digital electronics, delivering faster response times, higher resolution control, and smoother movement compared to analogue servos. For RC aircraft where precise control response matters, digital servos provide noticeably better performance, particularly during dynamic manoeuvres.
- Can I use this servo as a replacement or spare? — Absolutely. The 40-tooth spline interface is standard across the RC industry, so this servo will work as a direct replacement in any aircraft designed to accept a standard servo with this spline type. The short 60mm lead is particularly useful for aircraft with tight internal spaces where longer servo leads would be problematic.
- How fast does this servo respond? — The servo completes a 60-degree movement in 0.12 seconds, which translates to snappy, responsive control that keeps pace with rapid pilot inputs and dynamic flight manoeuvres. This speed is important for maintaining stability and control authority throughout your flight envelope.
