Key Features
- Brushless 6-Pole Configuration — The six-pole stator design delivers smoother, more consistent power delivery throughout the entire RPM range, resulting in better throttle response and more predictable flight characteristics that serious RC pilots demand from their equipment.
- 4900Kv Rating — This medium-high Kv rating provides the optimal balance between raw speed and torque for medium-weight RC aircraft, allowing you to achieve excellent performance without sacrificing efficiency or reliability.
- Outrunner Motor Design — The rotating magnetic bell design of outrunner motors provides superior cooling efficiency compared to inrunner alternatives, allowing your motor to run cooler during extended flights and reducing the risk of thermal stress on internal components.
- Spektrum Pedigree — Built by Spektrum, part of the Horizon Hobby family, this motor benefits from decades of RC engineering expertise and quality control standards that ensure you're investing in a product designed to last.
- Direct Drive Capable — The outrunner design makes this motor suitable for direct drive applications, simplifying your build and reducing the number of components between your battery and propeller, which improves overall efficiency.
- Proven Field Performance — With a 5-star customer rating, this motor has been tested and trusted by RC flyers worldwide, meaning you can purchase with confidence knowing that countless other enthusiasts have verified its performance and reliability.
Technical Performance
The SPM Brushless 6-Pole Outrunner Motor (2628-4900Kv) represents a significant engineering achievement in the brushless motor category. The 2628 frame size combined with the 4900Kv rating creates a motor that excels in medium-weight RC aircraft applications, offering the perfect blend of acceleration, sustained power, and efficiency that modern RC pilots expect. The brushless motor technology eliminates the wear associated with mechanical brushes and commutators found in older brushed motors, translating to longer service life and more consistent performance over time. The 6-pole stator configuration is precision-engineered to produce smooth, vibration-free operation, which is critical in RC aircraft where any vibration can affect camera stability, flight characteristics, and overall flight quality. The outrunner design means the magnetic rotor bell rotates around the fixed stator, a configuration that naturally generates superior cooling airflow during operation. This cooling advantage is particularly important during high-intensity flying sessions or when operating in warmer UK weather conditions. The motor's construction uses quality materials throughout, ensuring durability and heat dissipation even under demanding flight conditions. When paired with an appropriate brushless ESC and quality LiPo battery, this motor will deliver the responsive, reliable power that competitive and recreational RC aircraft pilots alike depend upon for memorable flights.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 4900Kv brushless motor and what does Kv mean? — Kv is a measurement that indicates how many RPM the motor will turn per volt of applied electrical power. A 4900Kv motor will spin 4900 RPM for each volt supplied, meaning on a 3S LiPo battery (11.1V nominal), you can expect approximately 54,390 RPM under no-load conditions. This rating makes the 4900Kv ideal for medium-weight aircraft requiring good speed without sacrificing torque availability.
- Is the Spektrum 4900Kv motor suitable for beginners? — Yes, this motor is suitable for intermediate to advanced RC pilots who already have experience building and flying electric RC aircraft. Beginners should ensure they have a proper understanding of brushless motor systems, ESC programming, and safe RC aircraft operation before using this component. The motor itself is reliable and forgiving, but the overall system requires appropriate knowledge to operate safely.
- What battery does this motor need? — The specific battery voltage and capacity depend on your aircraft design and weight, but the 4900Kv rating is commonly paired with 2S (7.4V nominal) or 3S (11.1V nominal) LiPo batteries. Always consult your aircraft plans or specifications to determine the correct battery configuration, as using incorrect voltage can damage the motor or ESC. Your RC specialist at RC Model Shop can help you select the perfect battery match for your setup.
- What makes brushless motors better than brushed motors for RC aircraft? — Brushless motors like this one offer several advantages over traditional brushed motors: they run cooler due to more efficient commutation, produce no brush friction or electrical noise, last significantly longer due to the absence of brush wear, provide smoother power delivery, and are much more energy efficient, meaning longer flight times on the same battery capacity.
- Can I use this motor for different aircraft types? — The 2628-4900Kv specification makes this motor suitable for a range of medium-weight RC aircraft including sport flyers, trainers, and light aerobatic models in the approximate 1-2kg weight range. Always verify motor selection against your specific aircraft plans and manufacturer recommendations before making a purchase to ensure compatibility.
- What is a 6-pole motor and why does it matter? — A 6-pole motor has six permanent magnets (poles) arranged around the rotating bell. This configuration compared to lower pole counts (like 4-pole) produces smoother, more efficient rotation with less cogging and vibration, resulting in better overall flight performance and more predictable motor behaviour across the RPM range.
