Key Features
- SLT FHSS 2.4GHz Protocol — The receiver uses Spektrum's proprietary SLT FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technology operating on the 2.4GHz band, which provides interference resistance and reliable signal acquisition for your surface RC models. This protocol is specifically designed for surface transmitters and is not compatible with Spektrum DSM, DSM2 or DSMX surface transmitters, so you must pair it with compatible SLT transmitters or Tactic brand transmitters.
- Three Control Channels — With dedicated channels for throttle, steering and auxiliary functions, you have complete control over your RC car's primary operations plus one additional function such as light switching, fan control, or lap sensor activation, giving you flexibility in your build configuration.
- Easy Bind Port Method — The simple bind plug system eliminates complex setup procedures; just insert the plug and power up to bind your transmitter to the receiver in seconds, making it perfect for beginners and experienced builders alike who want quick, hassle-free binding.
- Integrated Power Output on Bind Port — The bind port doubles as a power source, allowing you to connect and power auxiliary devices including fans, LED lights or lap sensors directly from the receiver, reducing the need for separate power distribution systems in your RC build.
- Preset Failsafe Protection — During the binding process, each channel's failsafe position is automatically set to match the command position at the time of binding, ensuring safe default behaviour if signal is lost; this protects your RC car by holding the last known safe position rather than unpredictable movement.
- LED Status Indicator — The on-board LED provides visual feedback about the SLR300's operating status, helping drivers understand receiver condition at a glance, whether indicating binding mode, signal lock or battery status without needing external diagnostics.
- Compact Lightweight Design — At just 33 x 20 x 12mm, the SLR300 is remarkably small and light, making it suitable for weight-conscious RC builds where installation space is limited and every gram counts towards performance.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum SLR300 is engineered as a purpose-built surface receiver with emphasis on reliability and simplicity rather than feature complexity. The 2.4GHz SLT FHSS protocol represents proven Spektrum technology refined specifically for surface RC applications, avoiding the confusion that can arise from trying to use aircraft-focused radio systems in car applications. The receiver's compact dimensions of 33 x 20 x 12mm allow installation in virtually any RC car chassis without requiring significant modifications, whilst the lightweight construction ensures minimal impact on your vehicle's weight distribution and handling characteristics. The three-channel architecture is sufficient for the vast majority of surface RC vehicles, covering throttle (motor speed control), steering (servo direction), and auxiliary functions (lighting, fans, or telemetry devices). The preset failsafe system is elegantly simple: whatever position your channels are in during binding becomes the default failsafe position, eliminating the need for complex failsafe programming menus. This approach suits both novice and experienced builders. The bind port's dual function as both binding interface and auxiliary power source is a practical engineering touch that reduces wiring complexity in tight chassis spaces. Build quality reflects Spektrum's heritage as a professional RC systems manufacturer, with the SLR300 designed to handle the vibration, temperature extremes and occasional moisture exposure typical of surface RC operation. This is a receiver built to work reliably day after day, whether you're running your RC car UK tracks or in your back garden.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum SLR300 suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The SLR300's straightforward bind plug system and preset failsafe make it ideal for newcomers to RC hobbying. There's no complicated menu diving or advanced programming required; you bind it and start driving. The economical price point also makes it attractive for those learning the basics before investing in more complex radio systems.
- What transmitters are compatible with the SLR300? — The SLR300 works with Spektrum SLT transmitters and is backward compatible with Tactic brand surface transmitters. Critically, it is not compatible with Spektrum DSM, DSM2 or DSMX surface transmitters, so you must verify your transmitter type before purchasing this receiver to ensure compatibility.
- Can I use the bind port to power auxiliary devices? — Yes, the bind port serves dual purpose and can supply power to auxiliary devices such as LED lights, cooling fans or lap sensors in addition to its binding function. This integrated approach saves space and wiring in compact RC car builds.
- How does the failsafe system work? — The SLR300 uses a preset failsafe system where each channel automatically defaults to whatever position it was in at the moment of binding. This means if your transmitter signal is lost, the receiver holds those last-known safe positions rather than causing erratic movement, protecting your RC car and bystanders.
- What size RC cars is the SLR300 designed for? — The SLR300 is a general-purpose surface receiver suitable for 1/10-scale, 1/8-scale and other surface RC models including short-course trucks, buggies and crawlers. Its compact 33 x 20 x 12mm dimensions make it compatible with virtually any chassis design.
- Does this receiver need firmware updates? — The SLR300 uses Spektrum's robust SLT FHSS protocol and does not require regular firmware updates like some aircraft receivers. Updates may become available through the My Spektrum website if Spektrum releases protocol improvements or bug fixes in future.
