Key Features
- Ultra-Lightweight at Just 1.8 Grams — This servo weighs only 1.8 grams, making it one of the lightest servos available for RC applications. This extreme weight saving is critical in ultra-micro aircraft where every gram directly impacts flight performance, battery runtime, and manoeuvrability. Lighter servos mean your aircraft can achieve better climb rates, longer flight times, and more responsive handling characteristics.
- DSM2 Technology Compatibility — The servo utilises Spektrum's proven DSM2 (Digital Spectrum Modulation) technology, allowing it to work with both AR6400 and AR6410 series ultra-micro receivers. DSM2 technology is renowned for its secure, spread spectrum signal that provides rock-solid control authority even in challenging RF environments, giving you confidence in the reliability of your RC aircraft control.
- Compact Linear Design — The linear servo configuration makes it exceptionally versatile for ultra-micro applications where space is at a premium. Unlike traditional servo designs, the linear format allows for creative mounting solutions and integration into tight spaces, enabling custom builds and modifications that would be impossible with conventional servos.
- 9.1mm Servo Throw for Aerobatic Performance — The 9.1-millimetre servo throw provides sufficient control surface deflection to enable true aerobatic flight performance. This throw distance is carefully calibrated to deliver responsive control inputs whilst maintaining the precise authority needed for acrobatic manoeuvres, loops, rolls, and inverted flight in ultra-micro aircraft.
- Linear Servo Reverser Included — Each servo comes complete with Spektrum's SPM6825 linear servo reverser, which allows you to reverse the servo direction without having to adjust your transmitter settings. This is particularly useful for symmetrical mounting configurations or when integrating the servo into complex control linkage systems.
- Brushed Motor Design — The servo features a brushed motor configuration, which is proven reliable in RC applications and offers excellent torque delivery at micro scale. Brushed motors are known for their simplicity, ruggedness, and straightforward operation, making them ideal for integrated servo applications.
Technical Performance
The SPM 1.8 Gram Linear Servo is engineered to deliver impressive performance characteristics in an ultra-compact package. Operating at 4.8 volts, the servo achieves a response speed of 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees, providing snappy, responsive control that pilots need for precise manoeuvrering and aerobatic flight. The torque output of 0.79 kilogrammes per centimetre at 4.8 volts may seem modest, but it is perfectly calibrated for ultra-micro applications where control surface forces are minimal and weight preservation is paramount. The servo measures just 16.0 millimetres in length, 15.0 millimetres in width, and 8.2 millimetres in height, making it one of the smallest servos on the market. The nylon gearing is lightweight and durable, contributing to the overall weight advantage whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for reliable operation. This servo integrates directly with Spektrum's AR6400 and AR6410 series receivers, which are themselves optimised for ultra-micro aircraft and feature integrated ESC (electronic speed controller) functionality, allowing you to build complete, fully-featured RC aircraft systems with minimal weight penalty. The servo is fully compatible with standard RC aircraft control linkages and can be implemented using traditional pushrods or alternative mechanical solutions, giving builders complete flexibility in their aircraft designs.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What voltage does the SPM 1.8 Gram Linear Servo require? — This servo operates at 4.8 volts, which is the standard voltage provided by two-cell lithium polymer (2S LiPo) batteries at normal discharge rates or three-cell nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The 4.8-volt specification ensures compatibility with Spektrum's AR6400 and AR6410 receiver systems, which are designed to provide this voltage output to connected servos.
- Is this servo suitable for beginners building ultra-micro aircraft? — Yes, the SPM 1.8 Gram Linear Servo is excellent for builders of any experience level who are working with ultra-micro aircraft and Spektrum receivers. The included servo reverser makes installation straightforward, and the compact size actually simplifies mounting in small aircraft. Beginners will appreciate the plug-and-play compatibility with Spektrum receivers, whilst experienced builders will value the weight savings and design flexibility it enables.
- What is the difference between this linear servo and a traditional rotary servo? — Linear servos feature a straight-line output format rather than the rotational shaft found on traditional servos. This linear design allows for more compact installations in tight spaces and enables direct push-pull control without requiring additional mechanical linkages or crank arms. For ultra-micro applications where space and weight are critical, the linear format is often superior.
- How does the 9.1mm servo throw affect flight control? — The 9.1-millimetre servo throw represents the maximum distance the servo arm moves from its neutral position. This throw distance is sufficient to provide full control surface deflection on ultra-micro aircraft, enabling aerobatic manoeuvres including rolls, loops, and inverted flight. The throw has been optimised for ultra-micro scale, where control surfaces are proportionally larger than on scale models.
- What battery voltage should I use with this servo? — This servo is rated for 4.8 volts, which corresponds to two-cell (2S) lithium polymer batteries at nominal voltage or three-cell nickel-metal hydride batteries. When used with Spektrum's AR6400 and AR6410 receivers, the receiver itself manages voltage regulation, so you will want to ensure your battery system is compatible with your receiver's specifications.
- Can I use this servo with non-Spektrum receivers? — No, this servo is specifically designed to work with Spektrum's AR6400 and AR6410 series receivers via their proprietary digital interface. It is not compatible with traditional analogue servo systems or receivers from other manufacturers.
