Key Features

  • Brushless Outrunner Design — This motor utilises brushless technology rather than traditional brushed motors, which means significantly reduced maintenance requirements and superior longevity compared to older motor technology. Outrunner configuration delivers excellent efficiency and smooth power delivery, critical factors for reliable RC airplane performance.
  • 970kV Rating — The 970kV specification indicates the motor's speed constant, meaning it will rotate approximately 970 revolutions per minute for every volt applied. This mid-range kV rating makes the motor suitable for a variety of RC airplane types and provides an excellent balance between speed and torque characteristics.
  • Adjustable Timing — The ability to adjust timing settings allows pilots to fine-tune motor performance to match their specific aircraft and flying preferences. This feature enables optimisation for maximum efficiency, which translates directly to longer flight times and more responsive aircraft handling characteristics.
  • 3.5mm Bullet Connectors — The motor comes equipped with standard 3.5mm bullet connectors, which are the industry-standard connection type for RC aircraft motors. These reliable connectors ensure secure electrical connections and are widely compatible with most modern RC aircraft ESCs and power systems.
  • Parkflyer Application Classification — Specifically designed and classified for parkflyer-class RC aircraft, this motor excels in applications requiring lightweight, efficient power delivery. Parkflyer aircraft are popular throughout the UK RC community for their ability to fly in smaller spaces whilst maintaining excellent flight characteristics.
  • Proven Reliability and Quality — Backed by a consistent 5-star customer rating, this Spektrum motor has demonstrated its reliability in real-world applications across thousands of RC aircraft. The high customer satisfaction rating reflects Spektrum's quality control standards and the motor's performance consistency across production runs.

Technical Performance

The SPM Brushless Motor 3226-970kV delivers exceptional technical performance characteristics that make it an outstanding choice for serious RC airplane enthusiasts throughout the UK. The brushless outrunner design eliminates the wear and maintenance issues associated with traditional brushed motors, whilst the 970kV rating provides an ideal balance of rotational speed and torque suitable for parkflyer and similar RC aircraft applications. The motor's construction utilises premium materials and precision engineering to ensure consistent performance across extended flight sessions. The adjustable timing feature allows experienced pilots to calibrate the motor's commutation timing, optimising efficiency and responsiveness for their specific aircraft weight, wing loading, and aerodynamic characteristics. The 3.5mm bullet connectors provide reliable electrical connections that resist corrosion and vibration-induced disconnection, critical factors for safe and reliable RC airplane operation. Whether you're operating in mild British weather conditions or during peak flying season, this motor maintains performance consistency and delivers the dependable power output that RC airplane pilots depend upon for successful flights. The brushless design also generates less electromagnetic interference than brushed alternatives, which can improve the stability of your RC system's radio reception and control responsiveness during flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the 970kV rating and how does it affect motor performance in my RC aircraft? — The kV (kilovolt) rating indicates how many revolutions per minute the motor will turn per volt of electrical input. A 970kV motor rotates 970 RPM per volt, making it suitable for parkflyer and light RC aircraft applications. This mid-range kV rating provides good efficiency whilst delivering sufficient power for responsive flight characteristics. Lower kV motors produce more torque but spin slower, whilst higher kV motors spin faster but produce less torque. The 970kV specification represents a versatile middle ground perfect for general RC airplane flying.
  • Is the Spektrum 3226-970kV brushless motor suitable for beginners in the UK RC hobby? — Yes, this motor is excellent for RC enthusiasts of varying experience levels. The brushless design requires no brush maintenance, making it simpler to care for than older brushed motors. The adjustable timing feature appeals to experienced pilots who want to optimise performance, but the motor operates reliably at standard settings for those new to the hobby. Spektrum's reputation for quality means you're investing in a motor that will perform consistently regardless of your experience level.
  • What type of battery does the 3226-970kV motor require? — Specific battery requirements depend on your aircraft design, ESC selection, and desired performance characteristics. The motor is compatible with LiPo battery packs, but you'll need to consult your aircraft's documentation or ESC specifications to determine the correct voltage (cell count) and capacity (mAh) for your particular setup. Always ensure your ESC is rated for both your battery voltage and the motor's power requirements.
  • What does the brushless design mean for maintenance and longevity? — Brushless motors eliminate the carbon brushes and commutators found in older brushed designs, which means no brush wear, no commutator maintenance, and significantly extended motor lifespan. Brushless motors can deliver thousands of flight hours with minimal maintenance beyond occasional inspection and cleaning. This translates to better value over time and fewer unexpected repairs during your RC flying season.
  • Can I adjust the timing on this motor, and should I? — Yes, the adjustable timing feature allows experienced pilots to fine-tune the motor's commutation timing for their specific aircraft. Timing adjustments can optimise efficiency and responsiveness, but for most RC aircraft applications, the standard timing settings work excellently. If you're new to timing adjustments, it's recommended to fly with factory settings first and only explore adjustments as you gain experience.
