The Class 1 sizing with a 4.19-inch outer diameter ensures your rock crawler maintains proper proportions and visual authenticity, whilst the aggressive tread pattern and C3 compound rubber deliver genuine gripping power when you need it most. These are not basic tyres; they are precision-engineered components designed to work in harmony with your 1/10 scale RC crawler setup, whether you're running a dedicated scale crawler platform or converting an existing vehicle for rock crawling duties.
Available now at RC Model Shop, these pre-mounted wheel and tyre packages arrive ready to bolt onto any 1/10 scale crawler using 12mm hex connectors. The fact that they come factory-mounted saves you significant setup time and eliminates the need for separate wheel and tyre purchases, making them an ideal solution for builders, upgraders, and enthusiasts looking for a complete, pre-tested package that performs from day one.
Key Features
- Class 1 Scale Size with 4.19-inch Outer Diameter — These tyres feature the Class 1 sizing that serious scale crawler builders specify, ensuring your RC vehicle maintains authentic proportions and visual impact that scale-conscious enthusiasts demand. The larger 4.19-inch outer diameter compared to standard 1.9-inch wheel diameters creates the distinctive look that separates dedicated scale crawlers from basic off-roaders.
- Super-Soft C3 Compound Rubber — The ultra-soft C3 compound provides exceptional grip on slippery, loose, and muddy surfaces that challenge standard tyres. This material science advantage means your crawler can bite into rocky terrain, muddy obstacles, and unpredictable ground conditions with significantly more traction than harder compound alternatives, directly translating to better climbing ability and fewer stuck moments.
- Aggressive Tread Pattern for Mud and Rock — The bold, pronounced tread blocks across these tyres are specifically designed to cut through loose surfaces and grip rock faces effectively. This aggressive tread design prevents your crawler from sliding on inclines and provides the bite you need when attempting technical ascents that require maximum grip.
- Factory-Mounted on 12mm Hex Wheels — These tyres arrive pre-mounted and glued to black composite plastic wheels fitted with 12mm hex adaptors, meaning zero assembly time from box to track. This factory precision mounting ensures perfect concentricity and eliminates the tyre balancing and mounting challenges that can plague DIY installations.
- Durable Black Composite Wheel Construction — The wheels are moulded from tough black composite plastic that resists impact damage whilst remaining lightweight compared to metal alternatives. This material choice provides genuine durability for rock crawling whilst keeping unsprung weight to a minimum, supporting better suspension performance and traction.
- Integrated Foam Inserts for Traction and Protection — Each tyre includes foam inserts that support the tyre sidewalls during extreme articulation and climbing manoeuvres. These inserts prevent tyre rollover, maintain consistent contact patch even on steep angles, and protect the tyre from sidewall damage that occurs during aggressive rock crawling.
- Sold in Pairs for Front and Rear Use — This package contains two complete wheel and tyre assemblies suitable for either front or rear fitment, allowing you to upgrade a complete axle or use them in mixed setups depending on your specific crawler configuration and terrain requirements.
- Universal 1/10 Scale Rock Crawler Compatibility — The 12mm hex standard ensures these tyres fit virtually any 1/10 scale RC rock crawler platform available in the UK market, whether you're running Axial, Losi, Element, Vaterra, or other dedicated crawler chassis.
Technical Performance
From an engineering perspective, the Duratrax Class 1 Scaler CR C3 demonstrates the thoughtful design choices that separate specialised crawler components from generic RC parts. The C3 compound rubber sits at the softer end of the hardness scale, specifically formulated to maintain flexibility in cold UK weather conditions whilst providing maximum grip across varied surfaces. The 1.9-inch wheel diameter combined with the 4.19-inch tyre outer diameter creates a 2.19-inch radius, which translates to meaningful ground clearance improvements over smaller tyre options—critical for clearing rocks and obstacles without grounding the chassis. The 12mm hex fitting is the industry standard for 1/10 scale crawlers, ensuring compatibility with aftermarket hubs, portal axles, and locked differentials that serious enthusiasts typically run. The foam insert design works actively with the soft compound to allow the tyre to conform to irregular surfaces—rocks, mud, and roots—whilst preventing catastrophic sidewall collapse that would occur with unsupported ultra-soft tyres. The black composite wheels offer a practical balance: they're significantly less expensive than billet aluminium alternatives, they don't conduct cold as readily in winter crawling sessions, and they're forgiving during impacts that would permanently damage metal wheels. For UK-based RC crawlers frequently navigating damp, muddy terrain and seasonal rocky environments, this specific combination of tyre compound, tread pattern, and wheel material represents an intelligent engineering choice that prioritises real-world performance over marketing specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these Duratrax tyres suitable for beginners new to RC rock crawling? — Absolutely. The factory-mounted configuration means beginners can bolt these directly onto compatible crawlers without wrestling with tyre mounting, gluing, or balancing. The exceptional grip provided by the C3 compound actually makes rock crawling more forgiving for newcomers, as better traction means fewer moments of losing control or tipping. If you're new to RC crawlers and want to upgrade from basic tyres, these Duratrax units are an excellent starting point that will immediately improve your climbing performance.
- What RC crawler vehicles are these Duratrax tyres compatible with? — These 12mm hex tyres fit any 1/10 scale RC rock crawler with standard 12mm hex hubs, which includes popular platforms like the Axial SCX10, SCX10 II, and SCX24, Losi Crawler models, Element Enduro series, Vaterra platforms, and numerous other 1/10 scale crawler chassis. Before purchase, simply verify that your specific model uses 12mm hex hubs—this is the standard in 1/10 scale crawling but always worth confirming.
- What is the difference between the C3 compound and other tyre hardness options? — The C3 compound used in these Duratrax tyres is considerably softer than standard RC tyre compounds, providing measurably superior grip on loose and slippery surfaces. Whilst softer compounds wear faster than harder alternatives and may not perform as well on smooth concrete or hardpacked clay, they excel precisely where most UK RC crawlers operate—muddy fields, rocky ground, loose gravel, and wet terrain. If your crawling focuses on technical rock obstacles and natural terrain, the C3 is the right choice; if you primarily run smooth tracks, you might prefer harder compounds.
- Do these tyres require any assembly or can I use them immediately? — These arrive completely pre-mounted and ready for immediate use. Simply unbox them, check that your crawler has 12mm hex hubs, and bolt them on. The factory mounting ensures perfect alignment and consistent concentricity that many home builders struggle to achieve, delivering performance from the first moment you use them.
- How do the foam inserts benefit my rock crawler? — The foam inserts serve multiple critical functions. They prevent the tyre sidewalls from collapsing inward during extreme articulation (when your suspension compresses fully), they maintain consistent contact between the tyre and ground even on severe angles, and they protect the delicate tyre sidewalls from rocks and sharp obstacles that would otherwise damage them. Without proper insert support, ultra-soft tyres like these C3 units would roll over and lose contact with the ground—the inserts make the soft compound practical for serious crawling.
- Will these Class 1 size tyres fit my existing 1/10 crawler wheels? — Not necessarily. These tyres come pre-mounted on specific wheels, and whilst the 12mm hex will fit any compatible hub, the tyre sidewalls are sized for these particular wheels. Attempting to remove them and remount them onto different wheels risks damaging the tyres and is not recommended. Purchase these as a complete pre-mounted system rather than attempting to separate the components.
- How do I care for and maintain these Duratrax tyres? — After each use, particularly in muddy conditions, rinse the tyres with clean water and allow them to dry completely before storage. Store them indoors away from direct sunlight, as UV exposure degrades rubber compounds over time. Inspect them regularly for embedded rocks or damage. The super-soft C3 compound will wear faster than harder compounds, particularly with heavy use, so expect to replace them more frequently than standard tyres—this is the trade-off for their superior grip.
