Key Features
- 2.4GHz AFHSS Proteus Radio Protocol — This transmitter uses advanced frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology that automatically selects the best available frequency in the 2.4GHz band, eliminating interference issues and ensuring a stable, uninterrupted signal to your receiver even in crowded environments with multiple RC operators.
- Dual Stick Control Layout — The intuitive single-axis throttle (up/down) and steering (left/right) stick configuration makes this transmitter accessible to beginners whilst offering the tactile feedback and precision that experienced RC drivers expect from a proper stick-based radio system.
- Proportional Control with Adjustable Dual Rates — Unlike simple on/off systems, this transmitter provides smooth, proportional control of both steering and throttle channels, with adjustable dual rates that allow you to set different sensitivity curves for different driving styles or vehicle setups, essential for fine-tuning your RC model's response characteristics.
- Digital Trims on All Primary Channels — Electronic trim adjustments on both steering and throttle channels let you compensate for mechanical variations and fine-tune your model's straight-line tracking and throttle idle without needing to adjust the mechanical linkages on your vehicle.
- Servo Reversing Controls — The ability to reverse servo direction on both steering and throttle channels directly from the transmitter eliminates the need to physically reverse servo connectors or reprogram receivers when setting up a new model or swapping components between vehicles.
- Auxiliary Channel with Rotary Dial (CH4) — An additional control channel operated via a rotary dial mechanism lets you control variable functions like pan/tilt camera movements, speed controllers with multiple modes, or any other proportional auxiliary device with smooth, continuous control.
- 3-Position Switch Auxiliary Channel (H3) — This three-position toggle switch provides discrete control over functions that need multiple settings, such as lights, camera recording on/off, or auxiliary servos with three distinct positions, expanding your model's functionality without adding complexity.
- Rechargeable Battery Compatibility — The transmitter features a dedicated charge port for powering from rechargeable AA-size battery packs, reducing running costs over time compared to disposable batteries, though standard AA alkaline batteries will also work for field use.
- 6-Channel Receiver Included — The included Planet Proteus 6-channel receiver accepts signals from all available transmitter channels (including the two auxiliary channels), providing significantly more functionality than the basic 2-channel transmitter control and allowing future expansion of your model's capabilities.
- Comprehensive Box Contents — Everything needed to start operating your RC model is included in the box: the transmitter itself, the 6-channel receiver, and a user manual, requiring only 4x AA batteries to get on the track or water.
Technical Performance
The Planet RC TS2+2 represents solid engineering focused on reliability rather than flashy features. The stick-based transmitter design uses mechanical joysticks that provide positive tactile feedback and precise control inputs, allowing drivers to feel exactly what commands they're sending to their model. The 2.4GHz frequency selection eliminates the older 27MHz and 40MHz bands' susceptibility to interference from household appliances and other RC operators, meaning your signal remains strong and responsive whether you're operating in an urban area or a busy RC club field. The dual-rate system lets users programme different sensitivity curves for different scenarios—perhaps a tighter, more responsive setup for racing an RC car on a track, or a gentler curve for precise control of an RC boat in tight quarters. The digital trim system provides electronic fine-tuning on both steering and throttle channels without mechanical adjustment, making it easy to dial in perfect neutral points and compensation for worn linkages or uneven vehicle setups. The proportional throttle and steering control delivers smooth acceleration and steering response rather than simple on/off switching, which is essential for any RC vehicle that requires smooth, predictable handling. The inclusion of servo reversal functionality means you can configure either regular or reversed servo operation directly from the transmitter without needing to physically reprogram the receiver or flip servo connectors. The 6-channel receiver accepts all transmitter signals including the auxiliary rotary dial and 3-position switch, providing expansion capabilities for future enhancements. With proper battery maintenance and care, this system delivers the reliable performance expected from modern digital RC radio systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Planet RC TS2+2 suitable for RC beginners and first-time buyers? — Yes, this is an excellent choice for anyone new to RC hobbies. The straightforward dual-stick control layout with single-axis throttle and steering is intuitive to learn, the 2.4GHz digital frequency system means you won't encounter interference problems like older radio systems, and the included receiver and comprehensive user manual make setup straightforward. The proportional control and adjustable dual rates let beginners start with gentle settings and gradually increase sensitivity as their skills develop.
- What batteries does this transmitter need and how long will they last? — The Planet RC TS2+2 requires four AA-size batteries installed in the transmitter. These can be standard alkaline batteries or rechargeable NiMH batteries. The transmitter features a dedicated charge port for rechargeable packs, which is more economical over time if you plan to use the system regularly. Runtime depends on battery quality and capacity, with typical alkaline cells providing several hours of operation per charge, though specific runtime specifications were not detailed in available documentation.
- What makes the 6-channel receiver better than a basic 2-channel receiver? — Whilst the transmitter only provides 2 main control channels for steering and throttle, the included 6-channel receiver can accept signals from both auxiliary channels as well (the rotary dial CH4 and the 3-position switch H3), plus the basic steering and throttle channels. This means you can control up to 6 different functions on your RC model, allowing for features like auxiliary servos, lights, camera controls, speed mode selection, or other accessories without needing to purchase an additional receiver. This provides significantly more versatility and room for future expansion.
- Does the Planet RC TS2+2 work with RC cars, boats, and other vehicle types? — Yes, this is a universal 2.4GHz radio system suitable for any RC model type: RC cars and trucks, RC boats, RC trains, RC aeroplanes with compatible receivers, and many specialist RC vehicles. The proportional throttle and steering control work with any servo-operated model. Simply match the channel functions to your model's servo configuration and you're ready to operate.
- What is the Planet Proteus AFHSS protocol and why does it matter? — AFHSS stands for Adaptive Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum, which is an advanced digital radio protocol that automatically selects the best available frequency within the 2.4GHz band to avoid interference. Unlike older 27MHz and 40MHz systems where multiple operators need different frequency crystals, this system allows multiple transmitters to operate in the same area without frequency conflicts or signal dropouts. The Proteus protocol is Planet RC's implementation of this widely-adopted standard, ensuring compatibility and reliability.
- Can I reverse servo direction on individual channels? — Yes, the transmitter includes servo reversing controls for both the steering and throttle channels, accessible directly from the transmitter. This eliminates the need to physically reprogram the receiver or physically reverse servo connectors when setting up a new model or reconfiguring an existing setup, saving time during initial vehicle setup.
- What is the difference between the rotary dial auxiliary channel and the 3-position switch? — The rotary dial on CH4 provides smooth, proportional control across a full range of motion, making it suitable for functions that need fine adjustment like camera pan/tilt, variable lighting intensity, or smooth speed transitions. The H3 3-position switch offers three discrete positions suitable for on/off functions with a middle position, such as light selection (off/low/high) or servo positions (left/centre/right).
