Overview

The Team Losi Racing Machined Shock Pistons, Thin 2 x 1.7mm G3 represent a precision-engineered replacement component designed for demanding RC car enthusiasts across the UK. These machined shock pistons are essential wear items that maintain optimal suspension performance on 1/10 scale buggies and off-road RC vehicles. Whether you're a serious racer competing on the track or an enthusiast looking to maintain your RC buggy in peak condition, high-quality shock pistons are crucial to ensuring consistent damping characteristics and responsive handling across all driving surfaces.

Shock pistons are fundamental components within your RC car's suspension system, controlling how fluid moves through the shock absorber during compression and rebound phases. The thin 2 x 1.7mm specifications of this piston set are engineered to provide the right balance of fluid flow restriction for specific tuning requirements. As your RC buggy absorbs impacts from rough terrain and jumps, the shock piston experiences wear that gradually affects your vehicle's suspension response. By replacing worn pistons with genuine Team Losi Racing machined components, you restore your shock absorbers to factory specifications and maintain the precise handling characteristics that Team Losi Racing engineers intended.

These machined shock pistons are compatible with a range of Team Losi Racing 22 series buggies, including the popular TLR03017, TLR03016, TLR03022, TLR03018, TLR03012, and the newer 22X-4 Elite 4x4 buggy platform. Each pack contains two pistons—enough for a complete shock set on your RC buggy. For anyone serious about RC car performance, whether you're running astro carpet tracks, dirt clay surfaces, or rough terrain, maintaining your suspension components with genuine OEM parts ensures your vehicle performs at its best.

Key Features

  • Precision Machined Construction — These shock pistons are machined from high-quality materials to exact tolerances, ensuring consistent performance and reliability across repeated use. Machined pistons maintain dimensional accuracy that directly impacts how your shocks perform, translating to predictable and repeatable handling characteristics on track.
  • Thin 2 x 1.7mm Specification — The specific dimensions of these pistons are engineered for particular shock tuning characteristics, allowing fluid to flow through the shock at controlled rates. This specification is critical for matching your suspension setup to your driving style and track conditions.
  • G3 Specification — The G3 designation indicates these pistons meet Team Losi Racing's third-generation specifications, incorporating refinements and improvements based on extensive racing feedback and performance data from professional and amateur racers worldwide.
  • Complete Pair Included — Each package contains two pistons, providing a complete replacement set for a standard shock setup on your RC buggy. This means you can refresh both front shocks or both rear shocks with a single purchase.
  • Genuine OEM Component — As an official Team Losi Racing part, these pistons are manufactured to exacting standards and engineered to work seamlessly with Team Losi Racing shock bodies. Using genuine components ensures compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Wear Item Replacement — Shock pistons gradually wear during normal use, affecting suspension responsiveness. Replacing them periodically maintains your shock system's original damping characteristics and ensures your RC buggy continues to handle as the engineer intended.

Technical Performance

The machined shock piston is a critical component within the shock absorber assembly that regulates the flow of damping fluid during suspension movement. As your 1/10 scale RC buggy encounters bumps, jumps, and track irregularities, the shock absorber compresses and extends thousands of times per session. The piston inside the shock creates resistance to this movement by controlling how quickly fluid flows through passages in the piston head. The thin 2 x 1.7mm dimensions of this particular piston design determine the flow characteristics—smaller orifices create stiffer damping, whilst larger orifices allow faster fluid flow for softer damping. Over time, the machined surfaces of the piston can wear from repeated sliding motion against the shock shaft and internal shock body surfaces, causing changes in damping feel and response. Team Losi Racing's machined construction ensures the piston surface remains smooth and true, maintaining the precise gaps that control fluid flow. The G3 specification incorporates refinements developed through feedback from Team Losi Racing factory drivers and competitive racers, representing the latest evolution of piston technology for the TLR 22 buggy platform. These pistons are compatible with Team Losi Racing shock bodies used on the 22 5.0 AC race kits, 22 5.0 DC race kits, 22 5.0 Elite DC race kits, and the newer 22X-4 Elite 4x4 buggy systems. Whether you're running on astro carpeted indoor tracks, outdoor dirt clay surfaces, or mixed terrain racing courses, maintaining fresh shock pistons ensures consistent and predictable suspension performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When should I replace my RC buggy's shock pistons? — Shock pistons gradually wear during normal RC car use, typically after many hours of racing or bashing. Signs of worn pistons include inconsistent suspension feel, less responsive handling, and damping that varies noticeably during a driving session. If your RC buggy's shocks feel different from when they were new, or if you notice uneven damping between front and rear shocks, replacement pistons can restore that sharp, consistent feel. For competitive racers running multiple sessions per week, fresh shock pistons every few months ensures consistent performance.
  • Are these shock pistons suitable for both racing and bashing? — Yes, these machined shock pistons work equally well for competitive racing on carpet or dirt clay tracks and for recreational bashing on rough terrain. Whether you're pushing your 1/10 buggy to the limit at a race meeting or enjoying weekend drives across mixed terrain, maintaining your shock pistons ensures reliable suspension performance for any driving style.
  • What makes Team Losi Racing genuine parts better than aftermarket alternatives? — Genuine Team Losi Racing shock pistons are engineered and manufactured to exact specifications that match the shock bodies and suspension geometry of TLR buggies. The machining tolerances are tighter, ensuring the piston maintains precise dimensions that control fluid flow accurately. Using genuine OEM components guarantees compatibility and performance as the engineers intended.
  • Can I use these pistons with older Team Losi Racing buggy models? — These pistons are specifically engineered for Team Losi Racing 22 series buggies, including the TLR03017, TLR03016, TLR03022, TLR03018, TLR03012, and the 22X-4 Elite 4x4 platform. Always verify fitment with your specific buggy model before purchasing, as different shock designs may require different piston specifications.
  • How many shock pistons do I need for my RC buggy? — A standard RC buggy has four shocks (two front and two rear), meaning you need four pistons total. This package contains two pistons, so you would need to purchase two packs to completely replace all four shocks, or one pack to replace either the front or rear shocks.
