Overview

The Fastrax 48Dp 34T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered drivetrain component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliable performance and durability. Whether you're running a competitive RC car in the UK or simply looking to upgrade your existing setup, this pinion gear delivers the quality and engineering excellence that Fastrax is recognised for across the RC hobby community. This is an essential replacement or upgrade part for anyone looking to optimise their RC vehicle's performance and longevity.

Constructed from premium 7075-T6 aluminium alloy, this pinion gear represents the intersection of lightweight design and exceptional strength. The 7075 aluminium specification is one of the highest-strength aluminium alloys available, offering superior durability compared to softer materials whilst maintaining a minimal weight penalty. This makes it ideal for high-performance RC applications where every fraction of a gram counts, and where the drivetrain must withstand consistent stress from powerful brushless motors and demanding driving conditions.

The 48-pitch (48Dp) specification combined with the 34-tooth configuration makes this pinion gear compatible with a wide range of RC vehicles and drivetrain setups. Fastrax has built a reputation as a trusted manufacturer of RC option parts and components, and this pinion gear exemplifies their commitment to quality engineering and value. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying RC cars as a hobby, a competitive racer fine-tuning your vehicle for the track, or a seasoned RC enthusiast upgrading your fleet, this pinion gear offers the precision and reliability you need.

Key Features

  • 7075-T6 Aluminium Construction — This premium aluminium alloy is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, providing superior durability compared to standard steel or plastic options whilst keeping your RC car's weight distribution optimal for better handling and acceleration.
  • 48 Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch (48Dp) standard ensures compatibility with a broad range of spur gears and drivetrain configurations, making this a versatile upgrade choice for many popular RC vehicles available in the UK market.
  • 34-Tooth Configuration — This tooth count provides a balanced approach to gearing ratios, offering reliable performance across a range of driving conditions and RC vehicle types without excessive strain on your motor or ESC.
  • Precision-Engineered Teeth — Each tooth is precisely machined to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth meshing with your spur gear and minimising vibration, noise, and premature wear that could affect your RC car's overall performance.
  • Fastrax Quality Assurance — As an established manufacturer of RC option parts, Fastrax maintains rigorous quality control standards, ensuring every pinion gear that reaches your hands meets their high engineering specifications and is ready for immediate installation.

Technical Performance

This Fastrax pinion gear represents serious engineering for demanding RC applications. The 7075-T6 aluminium alloy specification is significantly stronger than standard 6061 aluminium or plastic alternatives, with a tensile strength that exceeds 500 MPa, making it capable of handling the torque and stress generated by modern brushless motors commonly used in competitive RC cars across the UK. The precision machining process creates tooth profiles that mesh smoothly with standard 48-pitch spur gears, reducing backlash and improving power transfer efficiency from your motor to the wheels. The 34-tooth specification places this pinion in the mid-range of gear ratios, making it suitable for balanced performance across various driving scenarios—whether you're running high-speed circuits, technical courses, or mixed-terrain environments. The lightweight aluminium construction helps maintain optimal weight distribution in your RC vehicle whilst the hardness of the 7075 alloy resists tooth wear, stripping, and deformation under continuous use. This is the kind of component that serious RC hobbyists specify when rebuilding or upgrading their drivetrain systems, as it combines durability with precision engineering that directly translates to better acceleration, smoother power delivery, and longer component lifespan. Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC mechanical knowledge, requiring only a standard pinion gear removal tool and ensuring your motor shaft is properly aligned with your spur gear before final assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 48Dp pinion gear and why does pitch specification matter? — The 48Dp specification refers to 48 diametral pitch, which is a standardised measurement that determines tooth size and spacing. This specification ensures compatibility with 48-pitch spur gears commonly found on RC cars available in the UK market. If your RC vehicle uses a different pitch specification (such as 32Dp or 64Dp), you'll need a matching pinion gear; using mismatched pitches will result in poor meshing, noise, and potential drivetrain damage. The 48-pitch standard is one of the most common specifications in the RC hobby, making replacement and upgrade gears widely available.
  • Why should I choose a 7075 aluminium pinion gear instead of steel or plastic? — 7075 aluminium offers an exceptional balance of strength and weight that steel cannot match with the same weight penalty, and significantly outperforms plastic in durability and longevity. Steel pinion gears are heavier, which increases unsprung weight and can negatively affect your RC car's handling and acceleration. Plastic gears are lighter but wear much faster and are prone to stripping teeth under sustained high-torque driving. The 7075 aluminium specification gives you durability approaching steel performance whilst keeping your vehicle's weight as low as possible—this is why serious racers and enthusiasts specify aluminium pinion gears.
  • What size motor and ESC rating is this pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear works with any brushless or brushed motor that uses a standard pinion gear shaft size, paired with any ESC rated for your specific RC vehicle and power system. The pinion gear itself is not motor or ESC-specific; rather, it's determined by your vehicle's gearbox design and your desired gear ratio. For example, if you're running a high-performance brushless system in your RC car (such as a Traxxas or ARRMA vehicle available from UK RC retailers), this 34-tooth pinion will work seamlessly. We recommend consulting your RC vehicle's manual or speaking with our expert team at RC Model Shop to ensure the correct tooth count for your specific setup and desired performance characteristics.
  • How do I know if I need to replace my pinion gear? — Signs that your pinion gear needs replacement include visible tooth wear or chipping, unusual grinding or clicking noises from the drivetrain, loss of acceleration response, or excessive play (backlash) between the pinion and spur gear. If you've stripped teeth on your previous pinion gear, this is a clear indicator that you should consider upgrading to this durable 7075 aluminium version, which provides superior resistance to tooth damage. Regular inspection of your pinion gear during maintenance is a best practice that will extend the overall lifespan of your RC drivetrain.
  • What tooth count should I choose for my RC car? — Pinion gear tooth count directly affects your RC car's acceleration and top speed. A smaller tooth count (lower number) provides faster acceleration and higher top speed but puts more stress on your motor and ESC. A larger tooth count (higher number) provides stronger acceleration and better torque but reduces top speed. The 34-tooth configuration in this gear offers a balanced middle-ground approach, making it suitable for most recreational and competitive RC driving scenarios. If you're primarily running high-speed circuits, you might prefer a smaller tooth count; if you're running technical courses or crawling terrain, a larger tooth count may be preferable. Our experienced team at RC Model Shop can help you determine the ideal tooth count for your specific RC vehicle and driving style.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This pinion gear is suitable for anyone with basic RC mechanical knowledge who is comfortable removing and installing drivetrain components. Beginners should ensure they have a pinion gear puller tool (readily available and inexpensive) and follow their vehicle's manual carefully during installation. The gear itself is durable and reliable, making it a good choice for learning proper drivetrain maintenance. However, if you're completely new to RC, we recommend starting with your vehicle's stock drivetrain and consulting with experienced RC enthusiasts or our team at RC Model Shop before making upgrades.
