Overview

The Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear (1.0 metric pitch) is an essential tuning component for RC enthusiasts looking to optimise the performance of their Traxxas electric RC cars and trucks. This precision-engineered 34-tooth pinion gear is designed to fit 5mm motor shafts and comes complete with a set screw for secure installation. Whether you're a seasoned RC car racer, a weekend basher, or someone new to the RC hobby in the UK, having the right gear ratio is crucial to achieving the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed for your specific running conditions.

Traxxas pinion gears are manufactured to exacting standards and represent the gold standard in RC drivetrain components. By changing your gear ratios, you can fine-tune your RC model's performance to suit different environments—whether you're running on smooth tarmac, rough terrain, or challenging outdoor tracks. This 34-tooth pinion gear with its 1.0 metric pitch specification offers a proven solution for Traxxas RC enthusiasts who want to extract maximum performance from their vehicles.

The ability to adjust your RC car's gearing is one of the most straightforward yet effective tuning modifications available. A higher tooth count on the pinion gear (like this 34-tooth option) typically provides better acceleration and lower top speed, making it ideal for tight courses with lots of corners, or for drivers who prioritise responsive handling over raw speed. This makes the Traxxas 34-T an excellent choice for competitive racers and hobby enthusiasts alike who demand precision engineering and reliable performance from their RC equipment.

Key Features

  • 34-Tooth Pinion Design — This gear provides a specific gear ratio that enhances acceleration and allows for superior control in demanding conditions, making it ideal for RC drivers who want responsive handling and quick directional changes on UK tracks and terrain.
  • 1.0 Metric Pitch (Mod 1) — The metric pitch specification ensures compatibility with Traxxas motor shafts and spur gears, guaranteeing smooth, reliable mesh and optimal power transfer from your RC motor to the drivetrain system.
  • 20-Degree Pressure Angle — This engineering specification provides efficient gear tooth engagement, reducing wear and extending the lifespan of both the pinion and spur gear whilst maintaining consistent performance across numerous running sessions.
  • 5mm Shaft Bore — The pinion gear fits standard 5mm motor shafts found in most Traxxas electric RC models, ensuring universal compatibility across the Traxxas range without requiring adapters or modifications.
  • Included Set Screw — A precision set screw is included in the package, allowing you to securely fasten the pinion gear to your motor shaft with confidence, preventing slippage during aggressive driving or high-speed runs.
  • Precision Traxxas Engineering — As an official Traxxas component, this pinion gear is manufactured to exacting tolerances using quality materials, ensuring reliable performance and durability for competitive racing or casual RC enjoyment.
  • Performance Tuning Flexibility — By selecting this 34-tooth option, you unlock the ability to customise your RC car's performance characteristics, allowing you to adapt your vehicle to different track layouts, weather conditions, and driving styles.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear represents precision engineering at its finest, combining exacting manufacturing tolerances with proven materials science. With its 34-tooth configuration and 1.0 metric pitch specification, this pinion gear delivers reliable, efficient power transmission from your brushless or brushed RC motor to your vehicle's drivetrain. The 20-degree pressure angle has been engineered to optimise tooth engagement, reducing friction and wear whilst maintaining consistent mesh with your spur gear throughout thousands of running hours. The 5mm shaft bore accommodates standard Traxxas motor shafts, and the included set screw provides secure fastening that resists loosening during intense driving sessions. Whether you're running a high-performance brushless RC buggy, an aggressive 4WD RC truck, or a competitive racing RC car on UK circuits, the correct gearing is absolutely fundamental to achieving your desired performance envelope. This 34-tooth pinion gear is manufactured from hardened steel, ensuring exceptional durability and resistance to the stresses imposed by powerful electric motors and high-speed driving. The precise tooth profile guarantees smooth engagement with your spur gear, eliminating jarring or grinding noises that might indicate poor mesh. For drivers pushing their RC cars to the limits, upgrading or replacing worn pinion gears with genuine Traxxas components like this one ensures your vehicle maintains peak performance consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to change it? — A pinion gear is the smaller gear on your RC motor that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. Changing your pinion gear tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio, which controls the balance between acceleration and top speed. A higher tooth count (like this 34-tooth option) provides better acceleration and improved control, whilst a lower tooth count increases top speed. Different running conditions and track layouts benefit from different gear ratios, so having spare pinion gears allows you to optimise your RC car's performance.
  • Is the Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear compatible with my Traxxas RC model? — This pinion gear fits any Traxxas model that uses a 5mm motor shaft with 1.0 metric pitch gearing. We recommend consulting your specific model's owner's manual to confirm compatibility and to check which pinion gear tooth count is recommended for your vehicle. Traxxas publishes gearing recommendations based on your model and intended use, so checking these guidelines ensures optimal performance.
  • What is the difference between metric pitch and other gear specifications? — Metric pitch (also called modulus or mod) is an international measurement standard for gears. The 1.0 metric pitch specification on this gear means it's engineered to mesh precisely with other Traxxas 1.0 metric pitch components. The 20-degree pressure angle refers to the angle of the gear tooth, which affects engagement efficiency and wear characteristics. These specifications ensure that your pinion gear meshes perfectly with your spur gear without gaps, grinding, or excessive wear.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear wear depends on your driving intensity, track conditions, and maintenance practices. Regular inspection for tooth damage, chipping, or excessive wear is recommended, particularly if you're running at high speeds or on abrasive surfaces. If you notice squealing, grinding, or a reduction in performance, your pinion gear may be due for replacement. Keeping spare pinion gears in different tooth counts allows you to fine-tune performance and always have a backup ready.
  • Can I use a different tooth count pinion gear? — Absolutely. Traxxas offers pinion gears in various tooth counts, each providing different performance characteristics. Lower tooth counts increase top speed but reduce acceleration; higher tooth counts improve acceleration and control but reduce top speed. Experimenting with different tooth counts is a popular tuning strategy among RC enthusiasts, allowing you to optimise your vehicle for specific tracks, weather conditions, or driving preferences.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, pinion gear replacement is one of the most straightforward RC maintenance and tuning tasks available. The included set screw makes installation simple—just slide the gear onto your motor shaft, align the screw hole, and tighten the set screw. Beginners can confidently perform this upgrade with basic tools. However, we recommend consulting your model's owner's manual for specific installation guidance.
