Overview

The Traxxas Pinion Gear (25-tooth) (48-pitch) Set TRX4725 is an essential performance tuning component for RC enthusiasts who want to fine-tune their Traxxas models. Whether you're a seasoned RC car UK competitor or a weekend basher looking to optimise your vehicle's performance, this pinion gear allows you to adjust your gearing ratios to perfectly balance acceleration and top speed for your specific running conditions. Traxxas pinion gears are engineered to the highest standards and are trusted by RC hobbyists across the United Kingdom to deliver consistent, reliable performance upgrades.

This 25-tooth pinion gear is designed with precision engineering and fits 3mm motor shafts, making it compatible with a wide range of Traxxas brushless RC models including the E-Revo VXL series, Ford Fiesta ST Rally vehicles, and other compatible platforms. The gear comes complete with a set screw for secure installation, ensuring your drivetrain remains perfectly aligned during high-performance running sessions. By swapping gear ratios, you can transform how your RC vehicle behaves on the track or off-road, making this an indispensable upgrade for anyone serious about RC performance tuning.

Gearing is one of the most effective and affordable ways to customise your ready to run RC car without expensive engine modifications. The Traxxas 48-pitch pinion gear system gives you the flexibility to experiment with different ratios, allowing you to discover the perfect setup for acceleration-focused racing, high-speed bashing, or technical terrain navigation. This particular 25-tooth configuration represents a medium-ratio option that suits many popular running conditions and driver preferences.

Key Features

  • 25-Tooth Precision Gear — This specific tooth count provides a balanced gear ratio that works exceptionally well for general-purpose RC driving, offering a good compromise between acceleration response and maximum top speed, making it suitable for diverse running conditions across different terrain types.
  • 48-Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch designation means this pinion gear is engineered to mesh perfectly with Traxxas 48-pitch spur gears, ensuring smooth power delivery, minimal backlash, and extended drivetrain component lifespan through precise manufacturing tolerances.
  • 3mm Motor Shaft Bore — Designed to fit 3mm diameter motor shafts, this gear is compatible with the vast majority of Traxxas brushless motors and many aftermarket performance motors, providing broad compatibility across the Traxxas RC lineup.
  • Included Set Screw — The set screw securely fastens the pinion gear to your motor shaft, preventing unwanted slippage during acceleration and deceleration, which is critical for reliable power transmission and consistent driving characteristics.
  • Performance Tuning Capability — By changing your pinion gear ratio, you can fundamentally alter your vehicle's performance profile; smaller pinion teeth increase acceleration but lower top speed, whilst this 25-tooth option provides balanced mid-range characteristics perfect for most drivers.
  • Traxxas Engineering Quality — Manufactured to Traxxas' exacting standards using durable materials, these pinion gears deliver the reliability and precision that RC enthusiasts have trusted for decades in competitive and recreational applications.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Pinion Gear (25-tooth) (48-pitch) represents the pinnacle of gearing precision engineering for RC vehicles. This component is manufactured from hardened steel or composite materials engineered to withstand the demanding forces of high-performance RC driving, including rapid acceleration, hard cornering, and aggressive bashing. The 48-pitch specification indicates a precise tooth profile that meshes smoothly with matching 48-pitch spur gears, minimising drivetrain noise, vibration, and power loss whilst maximising efficiency. At 25 teeth, this pinion offers an excellent mid-range ratio suitable for drivers seeking balanced performance across various driving styles—whether you're exploring technical terrain in an RC crawler, bashing at speed, or competing on a race track. The 3mm bore diameter is the industry standard for Traxxas brushless motor shafts, ensuring a secure fit that prevents gear slippage and maintains consistent power delivery throughout your driving session. The inclusion of a precision set screw means installation is straightforward, requiring only basic tools and a few minutes of your time. Performance characteristics vary depending on your specific Traxxas model and the corresponding spur gear you're using, but this 25-tooth configuration generally delivers responsive acceleration with adequate top speed for most running scenarios, making it an ideal starting point for performance experimentation and fine-tuning.

Installation Guidance

Installing your new pinion gear is a straightforward process that requires removing your motor from your vehicle, sliding the old pinion gear off the motor shaft, positioning the new 25-tooth pinion in place, and securing it firmly with the included set screw. We recommend consulting your specific Traxxas model's owner manual for detailed installation instructions and recommended gearing options, as different models may have slightly different installation procedures and gear ratio preferences based on their intended use and performance characteristics. Ensure the set screw is tightened securely but not over-tightened, as excessive force can damage the motor shaft or the gear bore.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I choose the right pinion gear size for my RC car? — Pinion gear size directly affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed; smaller pinion teeth (lower numbers) provide better acceleration but reduce top speed, whilst larger pinion teeth increase top speed at the cost of acceleration response. The 25-tooth size in this set offers a balanced middle-ground suitable for general RC car UK driving. Consult your model's owner manual for the manufacturer's recommended gear ratios for your specific running conditions and driving style.
  • What is the difference between 48-pitch and other pinion gear pitches? — Pitch refers to the tooth profile size and spacing; 48-pitch gears have smaller, more closely-spaced teeth compared to 32-pitch gears, for example. You must match your pinion pitch exactly to your spur gear pitch to ensure proper meshing. The 48-pitch specification means this gear is designed exclusively for Traxxas models that use 48-pitch drivetrain components.
  • Will this pinion gear fit my Traxxas model? — This gear is compatible with any Traxxas model featuring a 3mm motor shaft bore and 48-pitch drivetrain configuration. Compatibility examples include the E-Revo VXL series and Ford Fiesta ST Rally vehicles. Always verify your specific model uses a 3mm shaft and 48-pitch gearing before purchasing, or consult your owner's manual.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and appropriate gearing choices for your driving conditions, a Traxxas pinion gear should last hundreds of driving hours. Replace it if you notice visible wear, tooth damage, or difficulty meshing with your spur gear.
  • Can I use this pinion gear with a different brand motor? — As long as your aftermarket motor has a 3mm shaft bore, this pinion gear will work. However, verify compatibility with your specific motor before installation to avoid fitment issues.
  • What performance change will I notice by upgrading to this 25-tooth pinion? — The performance change depends on your current pinion size. Compared to a smaller pinion (e.g., 23-tooth), this will provide slightly lower acceleration but increased top speed. Compared to a larger pinion (e.g., 27-tooth), you'll experience quicker acceleration with a modest top speed reduction. Test different ratios to find your preferred balance.
