Overview
The Axial SCX6 Ring & Pinion Gear Set 43/12 is an essential drivetrain component designed specifically for the Axial SCX6 platform, one of the most respected 1/6 scale rock crawlers on the market. This replacement gear set is perfect for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand precision engineering and reliability from their RC car parts. Whether you're upgrading your existing SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler or Trail Honcho, or you're simply maintaining your RC crawler with genuine OEM components, this gear set delivers the performance you need to keep your vehicle running at its best.
The 43/12 gear ratio configuration is a critical part of your SCX6's drivetrain, directly affecting how power is delivered from the motor to the wheels. For UK RC car owners who spend weekends tackling challenging terrain at local crawling spots, having the correct gear ratio ensures optimal torque delivery and smooth operation across all driving conditions. This is not just a spare part—it's an investment in your RC vehicle's performance longevity and reliability. The Axial brand is renowned for manufacturing high-quality RC components, and this gear set maintains that standard with precision-cut teeth and robust construction designed to withstand the demands of serious rock crawling.
RC enthusiasts who own ready to run RC vehicles understand the importance of maintaining original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts when replacements become necessary. This genuine Axial gear set is the correct choice for anyone seeking authentic, factory-spec components that will integrate seamlessly with their SCX6 platform and deliver the performance they've come to expect from their brushless 4WD RC crawler.
Key Features
- 43-Tooth Ring Gear — The larger ring gear in this set features 43 teeth, which works in conjunction with the pinion to establish the overall drive ratio of your SCX6, directly influencing torque delivery and acceleration characteristics across various terrain types.
- 12-Tooth Pinion Gear — The smaller pinion gear contains 12 teeth and is designed to mesh precisely with the ring gear, ensuring smooth power transfer and minimising drivetrain wear during intense rock crawling sessions.
- OEM Axial Component — This is a genuine Axial factory part manufactured to exact specifications, guaranteeing compatibility with SCX6 models and maintaining the engineering standards that made the platform popular among UK RC crawling communities.
- Single Unit Package — The set comes as one complete ring and pinion pairing (1ea), eliminating the need to purchase individual gears separately and ensuring matched tooth profiles for optimal performance.
- Drivetrain Replacement Part — Classified as a drivetrain spare, this gear set is essential for maintaining or upgrading your SCX6's power delivery system, whether for routine maintenance or performance tuning.
- Compatible with Multiple SCX6 Variants — This gear set works with both the SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler 4X4 Rock Crawler RTR and the SCX6 Trail Honcho 4X4 Rock Crawler RTR models, making it versatile across the SCX6 product line.
Technical Performance
The SCX6 Ring & Pinion Gear Set 43/12 represents precision engineering designed for the demanding world of 1/6 scale rock crawling. The 43/12 gear ratio creates a specific mechanical advantage that affects how your brushless motor's power translates into wheel torque and speed. In the context of Axial's SCX6 platform—a vehicle renowned for its exceptional traction, articulation and rock-crawling capabilities—the correct gear ratio is paramount. The ring and pinion gears must mesh with absolute precision; any wear, damage or incorrect installation can result in noise, slipping or accelerated component failure. These gears are manufactured to tight tolerances, with teeth profiles engineered to distribute load evenly and reduce friction during meshing. For UK RC enthusiasts running their SCX6 over rocky, uneven terrain and challenging obstacles, maintaining proper gear condition ensures consistent performance and extends the life of related drivetrain components. The construction quality reflects Axial's commitment to durability, essential for vehicles that operate in variable weather conditions typical of UK outdoor RC sites. Whether you're replacing worn gears after months of intensive use or performing a proactive maintenance upgrade, this genuine Axial gear set delivers the reliability and performance characteristics that owners expect from the SCX6 platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a ring and pinion gear set and why does my SCX6 need one? — The ring and pinion gears are fundamental drivetrain components in your SCX6 that work together to transfer power from the motor to the wheels. The pinion gear (small, 12 teeth) is driven by the motor and meshes with the ring gear (large, 43 teeth). Together they create a gear ratio that determines how much torque is available at the wheels versus how fast they turn. Over time, these gears can wear out from normal use, or you may want to replace them as part of maintenance. Having the correct OEM gear set ensures your SCX6 performs exactly as Axial engineered it.
- Will this gear set fit my SCX6? — Yes, this is a genuine Axial OEM part designed specifically for SCX6 models. It is compatible with the SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler 4X4 Rock Crawler RTR (both silver and green variants) and the SCX6 Trail Honcho 4X4 Rock Crawler RTR (both sand and red variants). Always verify your specific model before purchasing.
- How do I know when I need to replace my gear set? — Signs that your ring and pinion gears may need replacement include unusual grinding or whining noises coming from the gearbox, loss of traction despite a fully charged battery, jerky power delivery, or visible damage to the gear teeth. If you've been using your SCX6 intensively over several months, replacing the gear set as preventative maintenance is a sensible investment.
- Is this a genuine Axial part? — Yes, this is an authentic OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Axial component, not an aftermarket replica. The part number AXI252007 confirms this is sourced directly from Axial, ensuring exact fit and performance specifications.
- What tools will I need to install this gear set? — While specifications for installation tools are not provided in the product documentation, gear set replacement typically requires standard RC tool kits including hex keys, screwdrivers and possibly a gear puller. Consult your SCX6 manual or Axial's online resources for detailed installation instructions.
- Can I upgrade to a different gear ratio? — This product is the 43/12 ratio. If you're interested in exploring different gear ratios for alternative performance characteristics, Axial manufactures other configurations, but you should research compatibility and performance impacts with your specific model before purchasing alternatives.
