Overview

The Axial Bearing 8x16x5mm (2) is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision performance from their remote control vehicles. This pair of sealed ball bearings represents genuine Axial engineering, manufactured to the highest quality standards to ensure your RC car, truck, or crawler performs at its best. Whether you're maintaining your existing RC model or upgrading the drivetrain components for improved responsiveness, these bearings deliver the low rolling resistance and precision alignment that serious RC hobbyists expect from factory-original parts.

As an authorised Axial dealer, RC Model Shop stocks these genuine bearings for compatibility with a wide range of Axial vehicles, from the popular SCX10 II and SCX10 III rock crawlers to the SMT10 monster trucks and specialist models like the UTB10 Capra unlimited trail buggy. These sealed ball bearings are a direct replacement for worn or damaged originals, or an optional upgrade for builders constructing their own RC vehicles from kits. The 8x16x5mm dimensions make them suitable for multiple Axial platforms, helping you maintain consistent performance across different scales and vehicle types.

Ball bearings are the gold standard in RC model engineering, offering significant advantages over traditional bush bearings found in some entry-level vehicles. For anyone serious about their RC hobby in the UK, understanding the role of quality bearings in your vehicle's performance is crucial to achieving smooth operation, faster response times, and longer component lifespan.

Key Features

  • Genuine Axial Manufacturing — These are authentic factory bearings manufactured by Axial, ensuring they meet the exact specifications and quality standards of your original equipment, so you can replace worn components with confidence knowing you're using parts engineered specifically for your vehicle.
  • Sealed Ball Bearing Design — The sealed construction protects the internal rolling elements from dirt, dust, and moisture commonly encountered during off-road RC driving in the UK, extending the working life of the bearings and maintaining consistent performance even in challenging conditions.
  • Pair of Two Bearings — Each pack contains two complete 8x16x5mm bearings, which is the quantity required for typical RC suspension and drivetrain applications where matched pairs are essential for balanced handling and durability.
  • Steel Construction for Durability — The steel components are engineered to withstand the high rotational forces and impact loads encountered during aggressive driving, rock crawling, and off-road bashings, providing reliable long-term performance.
  • Less Rolling Resistance Than Bushings — Ball bearings significantly reduce friction compared to traditional plastic or rubber bush bearings, allowing your RC vehicle to maintain higher speeds with less energy loss and delivering faster acceleration response from motor power.
  • Precision Engineering — The tight tolerances and balanced manufacturing of these bearings ensure smooth, quiet operation and precise steering response, which is particularly important for rock crawlers that require delicate control on technical terrain.

Technical Performance

The 8x16x5mm ball bearing represents a critical component in modern RC suspension and drivetrain design. The dimensions specify an inner bore of 8mm, outer diameter of 16mm, and a width of 5mm, making these bearings compatible with a wide range of Axial platforms including the SCX10 II series (such as the '69 Chevrolet Blazer 4WD Rock Crawler, 1955 Ford F-100, and 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited variants), the SCX10 III range (including the Base Camp Chevy K10, Coyote 4X4, and Toyota SR5), the SMT10 monster trucks (Grave Digger and standard versions), the UTB10 Capra unlimited trail buggy, specialist models like the Wraith and Wraith Spawn rock racers, and larger scale models such as the 1/6 SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler and Trail Honcho crawlers. The sealed design provides environmental protection crucial for outdoor RC operation, whilst the steel construction ensures consistent performance under the demanding forces created by a 1/10 scale brushed or brushless motor driving through the suspension and drivetrain. These bearings are suitable for both standard builds and as optional performance upgrades, allowing builders and enthusiasts to customise their vehicles for specific driving conditions and performance requirements. The transition from bush bearings to ball bearings typically results in noticeably smoother rotation, reduced noise, faster steering input response, and improved overall vehicle handling characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these bearings suitable for all Axial RC models? — No, these specific 8x16x5mm bearings are designed for compatibility with select Axial models. According to the manufacturer, they are confirmed compatible with the SCX10 II series (including the Blazer, Ford F-100, Jeep Wrangler, Deadbolt, UMG10, and Trail Honcho variants), SCX10 III models (Base Camp, Coyote, and Toyota SR5 versions), SMT10 monster trucks, UTB10 Capra, Wraith and Wraith Spawn rock racers, as well as the 1/6 scale SCX6 Jeep and Trail Honcho. Always confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle model before purchasing.
  • What is the difference between ball bearings and bush bearings in RC vehicles? — Ball bearings use rolling steel balls to reduce friction, delivering less rolling resistance, smoother operation, faster response times, and improved acceleration response compared to traditional bush bearings made from plastic or rubber. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK, ball bearings are the preferred choice for precision driving and off-road performance.
  • How often do I need to replace my RC bearings? — The lifespan of ball bearings depends on driving conditions, maintenance, and intensity of use. Regular bearings may last through multiple seasons of casual driving, but aggressive rock crawling or frequent water crossings can necessitate more frequent replacement. The sealed design of these Axial bearings extends their service life by protecting against contamination.
  • Are these sealed bearings waterproof? — The sealed design provides protection against dirt, dust, and moisture, making them suitable for damp conditions and water crossings common in UK off-road RC driving. However, they are not intended for prolonged submersion, and rinsing with fresh water after wet driving is recommended to prevent corrosion.
  • Can I upgrade my RC vehicle by installing these bearings? — Yes, if your vehicle originally came with bush bearings or lower-specification bearings, upgrading to these genuine Axial sealed ball bearings can improve handling response, reduce friction losses, and enhance overall performance, particularly noticeable in precision driving and rock crawling scenarios.
  • How do I know if my bearings need replacing? — Signs that your RC bearings need replacement include grinding or rough noises during rotation, wheels or components that spin slower than normal, visible play or wobbling in suspension components, or dirt contamination visible inside the bearing housing after wet driving sessions.
