Overview
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 25T 48DP 1/8" Shaft (AS1343) is a premium upgrade component designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. Whether you're running an Associated buggy, truck, or short-course platform, this Factory Team hop-up pinion gear delivers measurable performance improvements over standard steel alternatives. As a recognised leader in RC car engineering, Associated has engineered these pinion gears to provide the perfect balance of weight savings, durability, and precision that discerning RC car UK hobbyists demand.
This 25-tooth pinion gear is machined from high-grade 7075-T6 aluminium and finished with hard-anodised coating, making it an ideal replacement for stock pinion gears on 3.2mm (1/8") motor shafts. The 48 Diametral Pitch (48DP) specification ensures compatibility with standard 48DP spur gear systems found across the Associated range. If you're upgrading your RC car setup or rebuilding after racing, this pinion gear represents a genuine performance upgrade that serious competitors and weekend bashers alike will appreciate.
Unlike basic pinion gears, the Associated Factory Team version incorporates thoughtful engineering details that make a real difference during use. The laser-etched tooth count ensures you can instantly identify the gear ratio without removing the pinion from your motor shaft—a small feature that saves frustration during setup and tuning. For those running larger pinions (30-tooth and above), weight reduction holes are incorporated into the design, though the 25T variant features a solid construction for maximum strength where it matters most.
Key Features
- Factory Team 7075-T6 Aluminium Construction — Machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminium, this material offers superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to standard steel pinions, reducing unsprung mass whilst maintaining durability through thousands of acceleration cycles on track or trail.
- Hard-Anodised Finish for Extended Lifespan — The hard-anodised surface treatment significantly increases wear resistance, protecting the gear teeth from degradation during high-speed mesh with your spur gear and extending the service life of your drivetrain components.
- Lightweight Performance Upgrade — By switching from heavier steel alternatives, you reduce rotating mass on your motor shaft, which translates to quicker acceleration response, faster throttle pickup, and improved overall handling characteristics—particularly noticeable in competitive racing scenarios.
- Dual Set-Screw Mounting System — Two set-screw holes provide secure, adjustable grip on your 3.2mm (1/8") motor shaft, allowing you to dial in the perfect engagement with your spur gear without relying on press-fit methods that can damage motor shafts.
- Laser-Etched Tooth Count Identification — The tooth count is precisely laser-marked onto the gear body, enabling instant visual identification without removal, which is invaluable when managing multiple pinion sizes across different RC vehicles or during mid-race adjustments.
- 25-Tooth Ratio Specification — The 25-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance for standard racing applications, providing enough motor torque for acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top-speed capability across most 1/8" and smaller RC platforms.
- 48 Diametral Pitch Standard — This 48DP pitch ensures perfect compatibility with Associated factory spur gears and other quality 48DP drivetrain components, guaranteeing smooth mesh and reliable power transmission without slippage or noise.
Technical Performance
The Associated Factory Team pinion gear represents the intersection of materials science and practical RC engineering. Constructed from 7075-T6 aluminium, this material is renowned in aerospace and automotive industries for its exceptional strength combined with significantly lower density than steel—a critical advantage in RC applications where rotating mass directly impacts acceleration and handling response. The 25-tooth configuration at 48 diametral pitch delivers the correct mechanical advantage for 1/8" motor shafts, providing smooth engagement with compatible spur gears whilst minimising backlash that could cause noise or power loss. The hard-anodised finish isn't merely cosmetic; it's a metallurgical treatment that creates a dense oxide layer on the aluminium surface, dramatically improving resistance to tooth wear, corrosion, and the constant friction loads experienced during racing. With dual set-screw holes accommodating 3.2mm (1/8") shafts, installation is straightforward yet secure—simply slide the pinion onto your motor shaft, align the set screws, and achieve perfect engagement. This component integrates seamlessly into Associated RC systems including the TC7.1, TC7.2, B6.1, B6.2, B6.3, B6.4, B74.2, T6.4, and numerous other platforms that utilise 48DP drivetrain specifications. Whether you're upgrading a brushless or brushed RC car, the pinion gear is the critical interface between motor power and drivetrain efficiency, making this Factory Team upgrade a worthwhile investment for anyone serious about RC car UK racing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Associated 25T pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, this pinion gear is an excellent choice for anyone upgrading from stock components. The 25-tooth ratio provides balanced performance for learning racers, and installation is straightforward with the dual set-screw system. It's a smart upgrade that costs little more than stock alternatives but delivers noticeable improvements in responsiveness and reliability.
- What is the difference between this 25T pinion and other tooth counts in the range? — Associated offers pinion gears from 17-tooth through 34-tooth in 48DP specifications. Lower tooth counts (17-23T) provide higher top speeds but require more powerful motors and suit tracks with long straights. The 25T represents an ideal middle ground for general racing, whilst higher counts (26-34T) favour technical, twisty courses where acceleration and torque out of corners matter more than top speed. Your choice depends on your track layout and motor specifications.
- Will this pinion fit my Associated RC car? — This 25T 48DP pinion with 3.2mm (1/8") shaft is compatible with any Associated platform or aftermarket RC car that uses 48DP drivetrain components and accepts 1/8" diameter motor shafts. This includes TC7.1, TC7.2, B6 series, B7 series, T6 series, and numerous other Associated buggies, trucks, and short-course vehicles. Always verify your current spur gear pitch (48DP) and motor shaft size before purchasing.
- How does 7075-T6 aluminium compare to steel pinions? — The 7075-T6 aluminium alloy is roughly one-third the density of steel whilst offering comparable strength, meaning these pinions are significantly lighter without sacrificing durability. Lighter rotating components improve motor efficiency, reduce heat buildup, and enhance acceleration response—benefits that accumulate across an entire race. The hard-anodised finish provides wear resistance equivalent to or exceeding hardened steel, so you gain the best of both worlds: weight savings and longevity.
- How do I install the set screws correctly? — Slide the pinion gear onto your motor shaft, then tighten the two set screws evenly using a small hex key or Allen wrench. Do not overtighten, as excessive force can damage the motor shaft or strip the screw threads. The set screws should be tight enough to prevent slippage under acceleration but loose enough that the pinion can be manually adjusted if needed for spur gear mesh tuning.
- Can I use this pinion with my brushless RC motor? — Absolutely. This pinion gear is compatible with both brushless and brushed 1/8" motors featuring 3.2mm shafts. Brushless motors are more common in modern RC racing, and they work perfectly with this Factory Team upgrade, often showing the most dramatic performance improvements due to the reduction in rotating mass.
