Technical Performance
The Overlander 2560 represents a carefully engineered balance of performance, reliability and practicality for RC applications demanding consistent power in a compact package. The Lithium Polymer (LiPo) chemistry delivers significantly higher energy density than older NiMH or NiCd batteries, meaning you get more power and longer runtime without adding unnecessary weight to your model. This matters tremendously in RC flying applications where every extra gram affects flight characteristics, fuel efficiency and handling responsiveness. The 35C continuous discharge rating means this battery can sustain a constant 35 amps of current draw, making it suitable for small to medium brushless motors and compatible speed controllers operating at 2S voltage. The 65C burst capability provides that critical power boost for short intense periods, ensuring your RC model responds immediately to pilot input during aggressive manoeuvres. The high-quality 18AWG silicone leads minimise internal resistance, which translates to better voltage regulation under load and more consistent performance throughout your flight or drive session. The JST-XH balance connector is not merely a convenience feature — it's essential for safe LiPo charging, as it allows your charger to monitor and balance each individual cell, preventing one cell from overcharging whilst the other remains undercharged. This cell balancing process is critical for maximising battery lifespan, maintaining consistent power delivery and preventing safety hazards associated with unbalanced charge states. The compact dimensions and lightweight construction make this battery the preferred choice for park flyers, small gliders, small RC cars and lightweight drones where space constraints would make larger capacity batteries impractical.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Overlander 2560 suitable for beginners to RC hobbies? — Yes, absolutely. This battery is an excellent choice for beginners because its 1000mAh capacity provides manageable runtime for learning flights or driving sessions, and the moderate power output (35C) is forgiving for less experienced pilots whilst still delivering responsive performance. However, beginners must understand that LiPo batteries require proper care, including the use of a dedicated LiPo charger with balance charging capability, regular voltage checks to prevent over-discharge, and safe storage practices. If you're new to RC, take time to read the safety information provided and invest in proper charging equipment.
- What makes LiPo batteries better than NiMH or NiCd alternatives for RC models? — LiPo batteries offer several critical advantages that make them the standard choice for modern RC models. They deliver significantly higher energy density, packing more power into a smaller, lighter package — crucial for RC aircraft where weight directly impacts flight performance. LiPo batteries provide high discharge rates enabling rapid acceleration and responsive control, they maintain consistent voltage throughout most of their discharge cycle, they charge much faster than older chemistries, they suffer from no memory effect so you can top them up anytime, and they don't require complete discharge before recharging. These advantages combine to make LiPo the preferred choice for anyone serious about RC performance.
- Why do I need a special charger for LiPo batteries? — LiPo batteries are chemically sensitive and require charging with a dedicated balance charger set to LiPo mode. These chargers provide several critical functions: they charge at the correct voltage and current to prevent overcharging, they monitor and balance individual cells through the JST-XH balance plug to ensure each cell reaches 4.2V without one cell exceeding safe limits, and they cut off charging automatically when the battery reaches full charge. Using an incorrect charger or standard charger can lead to overcharging, cell imbalance, swelling, reduced capacity, leaks or catastrophic battery failure including fire. The balance charging function is particularly important — it uses the balance connector to measure each cell independently and adjust charge current distribution, keeping cells balanced and your battery safe.
- What runtime can I expect from the 1000mAh capacity? — Runtime depends on the current draw of your specific RC model, which varies based on motor size, ESC programming, flying or driving style and aerodynamic efficiency. As a general guide, if your model draws 10 amps continuously, you can expect roughly 6 minutes of runtime (1000mAh ÷ 10A = 0.1 hours = 6 minutes). However, most RC applications use intermittent throttle rather than continuous full power, so actual flight or drive times are typically 10-20 minutes for park flyers and small RC cars. For precise runtime predictions, check your motor and ESC specifications to estimate average current draw under typical operating conditions.
- How should I store the Overlander 2560 when not in use? — Proper storage is essential for maintaining battery health and safety. Store the battery at approximately 50% charge, which corresponds to roughly 3.7V to 3.85V per cell, rather than fully charged or fully discharged. This equilibrium state minimises stress on the cells during storage. Keep the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources and extreme temperatures — never leave LiPo batteries in hot cars or near windows where temperature can spike. If you store the battery for extended periods (more than a few months), check the charge level every two months and perform a gentle top-up or discharge cycle to maintain the 50% storage state. This simple routine keeps your battery ready for action and prevents the irreversible damage that occurs when LiPo cells sit fully charged or completely drained for long periods.
- What is over-discharging and why must I avoid it? — Over-discharging occurs when you drain the battery below its safe minimum voltage, typically 3.0V per cell (6.0V total for a 2S pack). Unlike some battery technologies with built-in protection circuits, LiPo batteries have no automatic safeguard against over-discharge. If cells are drained below 3.0V, the internal chemistry becomes unstable and the cells suffer permanent damage — they may never fully recharge, they may hold significantly less capacity, or they may become unsafe to use. To prevent over-discharge, stop using your model before the battery reaches critically low voltage. If your RC model doesn't have a built-in voltage alarm, a separate voltage checker is an essential safety tool. Many RC enthusiasts check battery voltage after every session to confirm the pack hasn't been over-discharged and remains in safe operating range.
- What does the C rating mean and why is 35C important? — The C rating describes how fast a battery can discharge its capacity relative to its mAh rating. A 35C battery can discharge 35 times its capacity per hour — so this 1000mAh battery can theoretically supply 35 amps continuously (1000mAh × 35C = 35A). The C rating is crucial because it determines whether the battery can deliver the current your RC model demands. If you try to run a motor requiring 40 amps through a 25C battery, the battery cannot supply sufficient current, resulting in severe voltage sag, poor performance, inadequate power delivery and potential battery damage. The 35C continuous rating of this battery makes it suitable for small to medium brushless motors in 2S applications, whilst the 65C burst capability provides extra headroom for short intense periods like hard cornering or aggressive climbs.
- Can I use this battery in different types of RC models? — The Overlander 2560 is compatible with any RC model designed for 2S 7.4V LiPo batteries, including RC cars, RC trucks, RC boats, RC aircraft, RC gliders, drones and helicopters. However, compatibility requires three critical checks: your motor must be rated for 2S voltage, your speed controller (ESC) must be capable of handling 2S voltage and must support the battery's JST-BEC connector or accept an adapter, and your model's weight and airframe must be suitable for a 56.9g battery without causing balance problems. Always verify these specifications for your specific model before purchasing. Using this battery in a model designed for different voltage or higher capacity will result in poor performance or equipment damage.
- How do I know if this battery is fully charged? — A fully charged 2S LiPo battery measures approximately 8.4V at rest when measured with a voltage checker immediately after charging finishes. Under load (whilst connected to your model and running the motor), the voltage will be lower due to internal resistance and current draw. Each individual cell should measure 4.2V when fully charged. Use a dedicated voltage checker to verify charging completion rather than relying on charger indicators alone, as some chargers may cut off before optimal charge is reached. Never assume the battery is fully charged — always verify with a voltage checker.
- What is the difference between the constant 35C rating and the 65C burst rating? — The 35C constant discharge rating indicates the maximum current the battery can safely deliver continuously without damage, providing stable long-term power for sustained manoeuvres. The 65C burst rating is a temporary boost available for short periods (typically 10-30 seconds) when you demand absolute maximum power, such as during hard acceleration sprints, aggressive 3D manoeuvres or emergency power situations. Think of the constant rating as your reliable cruise power and the burst rating as your turbo mode for critical moments. Using burst power continuously exceeds safe operating parameters and can damage the battery.
- Is the Overlander 2560 waterproof? — No, this battery is not waterproof and should never be exposed to water, rain, moisture or humidity. LiPo batteries with exposed electronics and connectors are vulnerable to water damage, short circuits and chemical reactions that can cause battery failure or fire. Always keep this battery dry and protect it from moisture. If your battery becomes wet, do not attempt to use it — allow it to dry completely in a safe location away from flammable materials before attempting to charge or use it again.
