Overview

The Tamiya PS-57 Pearl White Polycarbonate Spray Paint is a specialist finishing product designed exclusively for R/C car builders and enthusiasts across the UK who demand professional-quality results on their polycarbonate body shells. This premium spray paint delivers a stunning pearlescent white finish that sparkles brilliantly in natural sunlight, transforming transparent polycarbonate bodies into eye-catching race-ready models. Whether you're building a competitive 1/10 RC buggy, a nimble RC touring car, or any other polycarbonate-bodied RC vehicle, this paint has been specifically formulated by Tamiya to deliver outstanding results that you simply won't achieve with standard hobby paints.

What makes this product stand out in the RC car UK market is its specialised formulation. Unlike generic spray paints, the PS-57 has been engineered from the ground up for polycarbonate substrates, ensuring perfect adhesion, durability and that characteristic pearlescent sparkle that catches judges' eyes at RC competitions and events. The 100ml aerosol can contains precisely the right amount of paint needed to finish a typical polycarbonate body shell with multiple coats, making it both efficient and cost-effective for serious modellers. This paint is impervious to oil and fuels, making it the ideal choice for gas-powered R/C car bodies where traditional paints would degrade and fail.

RC enthusiasts who choose the PS-57 Pearl White are choosing a product that has been battle-tested by Tamiya's engineering team and trusted by professional R/C builders worldwide. The pearlescent finish adds genuine visual appeal and professional appearance to your models, whether you're preparing for competitive racing, display builds, or simply want your ready-to-run RC car to look its absolute best.

Key Features

  • Specialist Polycarbonate Formulation — This paint has been developed exclusively for transparent polycarbonate bodies, ensuring perfect adhesion and durability that standard acrylic or enamel paints simply cannot match on polycarbonate substrates. This specialisation means you get professional results every time without paint peeling, cracking or adhesion failure during use.
  • Pearlescent Pearl White Finish — The paint delivers a beautiful pearlescent white that sparkles and shimmers in sunlight, creating a premium appearance that stands out at RC events, competitions and on display. This finish adds genuine visual appeal that flat or metallic whites cannot replicate, making your RC model look far more professional and race-ready.
  • 100ml Aerosol Can — Each can contains exactly 100ml of paint, which is the precise amount Tamiya engineers have calculated is needed to finish a typical polycarbonate body shell completely. This eliminates waste and ensures you have enough paint for proper multiple coats without running short or having excess product to dispose of.
  • Oil and Fuel Resistant — The paint formulation is completely impervious to nitro fuel and engine oils, making it perfect for gas-powered and nitro-fuelled R/C car bodies where standard paints would degrade, dissolve or discolour. This fuel resistance ensures your finish remains pristine even after extended racing seasons.
  • Multiple Coat Application — The paint is designed to be applied in multiple thin coats for superior coverage and colour depth, with each subsequent coat bonding perfectly to the previous layer without crazing, cracking or adhesion issues that plague inferior polycarbonate paints.
  • Professional Inside-Out Application Method — By painting from the inside of the polycarbonate body, you protect the finished exterior surface from scratches and damage during application, and you achieve superior paint-to-substrate adhesion that creates a more durable long-term finish on your RC car.

Technical Performance

The Tamiya PS-57 Pearl White represents the pinnacle of polycarbonate paint engineering, having been developed through extensive research and testing specifically for the demands of R/C car modelling. The pearlescent white pigmentation is formulated to provide exceptional colour saturation and that characteristic sparkle effect that really makes polycarbonate bodies stand out, whether displayed indoors under artificial light or racing outdoors in natural sunlight. The 100ml volume has been precisely calculated by Tamiya's engineers to provide the ideal amount of paint for finishing a complete polycarbonate body shell with proper multiple coat application. The spray delivery system provides excellent atomisation and even distribution, allowing for controlled application from a distance of approximately 30 centimetres from the body surface. This distance ensures optimal paint particle size and distribution for professional-quality results without runs, drips, sags or uneven coverage. The paint's resistance to nitro fuel, glow fuel and engine oils makes it the only sensible choice for gas-powered R/C vehicles, where the combination of fuel exposure, heat cycling and vibration would quickly destroy conventional paints. The formulation cures to a hard, durable finish that resists minor scratches and scuffs from normal handling and racing activities, maintaining its pearlescent appearance throughout years of use and competition. When applied correctly with proper technique and multiple coats, this paint creates a finish that is virtually indistinguishable from factory-painted competition-grade polycarbonate bodies.

Application Requirements and Preparation

  • Polycarbonate Body Shell — You must have a transparent or translucent polycarbonate body designed for R/C cars, as this paint is formulated exclusively for polycarbonate and will not adhere properly to plastic model kits or other plastic types.
  • Brush Painting Option for Detail Work — For small details and intricate areas where spray application is impractical, Tamiya bottle paints formulated for polycarbonate can be used with a brush for precision work.
  • Proper Ventilation — Spray painting should always be carried out in a well-ventilated area to disperse paint fumes safely.
  • Protective Equipment — Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including a respirator or mask rated for paint fumes when spraying.
  • Curing Time Between Coats — Allow adequate curing time between applications of successive coats to ensure each layer bonds properly without crazing or lifting.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use PS-57 Pearl White on plastic model kits? — No, absolutely not. This paint is formulated exclusively for polycarbonate and must never be used on plastic model kits. The formulation will not adhere properly to standard plastic and will likely cause damage to plastic parts. Always use this paint only on polycarbonate R/C car bodies.
  • Is this paint suitable for gas-powered or nitro-fuelled RC cars? — Yes, this is one of the primary advantages of the PS-57. The paint formulation is completely impervious to nitro fuel, glow fuel and engine oils, making it the ideal choice for gas-powered R/C vehicles. Standard acrylic or enamel paints will degrade and fail when exposed to these fuels, but the PS-57 maintains its integrity and appearance throughout extended racing seasons.
  • How do I apply the paint correctly for best results? — Paint the polycarbonate body from the inside, keeping the aerosol can approximately 30 centimetres from the surface. This inside-out application method protects the visible exterior finish from spray overspray and drips. Apply the first coat and allow it to cure completely, then apply a second coat for superior colour saturation and finish quality. You can apply additional coats as needed to achieve your desired colour depth and finish appearance.
  • How much paint does each 100ml can contain? — Each aerosol can contains exactly 100ml of paint, which is the amount Tamiya has determined is optimal for finishing a typical polycarbonate R/C car body shell completely with multiple coats. This quantity ensures you have sufficient paint without wasteful excess.
  • What makes the finish pearlescent? — The paint contains specialist pearlescent pigments that reflect and refract light, creating that characteristic sparkle and shimmer effect in natural sunlight. This gives your RC model a premium, professional appearance that flat or solid whites cannot achieve.
  • Can I use bottle paints from Tamiya alongside this spray paint? — Yes, Tamiya polycarbonate bottle paints can be used with a brush for detailed work on small areas, intricate designs or parts where spray application is impractical or where overspray protection is needed. These can be applied over or alongside the PS-57 spray paint for complete body decoration.
