Traxxas has invested considerable engineering effort into creating a driveshaft that balances weight savings with structural integrity. The vivid blue anodised finish isn't just for aesthetics—the anodised coating provides corrosion resistance and durability, while the laser-etched Traxxas logo adds a professional touch that shows in your RC car build. This is a genuine Traxxas part, manufactured to the exacting standards you'd expect from the world's leading RC vehicle manufacturer. If you're running a brushless RC short course truck and want to upgrade your drivetrain reliability, this centre driveshaft delivers the performance upgrade you need.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas parts for customers across the UK. Whether you're based in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, we're here to help you maintain and upgrade your RC collection with authentic components and expert support. This driveshaft is compatible with the Traxxas Slash 4x4 range, including the BL-2S brushless electric short course truck variants and the Slash Ultimate 4x4 VXL platform.

Key Features

  • 6061-T6 Aluminium Construction — The driveshaft is manufactured from 6061-T6 grade aluminium, which is the same high-strength aluminium alloy used in aerospace applications. This material delivers the perfect balance between lightweight performance and structural rigidity, ensuring your RC short course truck maintains drivetrain integrity even under aggressive driving conditions and high-load cornering.
  • One-Piece Design — Unlike composite or multi-piece designs, this single-piece construction eliminates weak points and potential failure zones. A one-piece driveshaft means fewer joints, less vibration transmission, and more reliable power delivery to your wheels, which translates to better handling and more predictable driving behaviour on track or off-road.
  • Internal Splines — The internal spline design fits directly onto the input shafts of your front and rear drive assemblies, completely eliminating driveline play. This is crucial for RC vehicles because any play in the drivetrain causes delayed power delivery, reduces steering precision, and creates unwanted noise. With zero play, your Slash 4x4 will respond instantly to throttle inputs with crisp, direct power delivery.
  • Vivid Blue Anodised Finish — The eye-catching blue anodised coating serves multiple purposes: it looks fantastic in your RC car, it protects the underlying aluminium from corrosion and oxidation, and it provides a durable surface that resists wear from daily use. The anodised layer also helps dissipate heat more effectively than bare metal.
  • Laser-Etched Traxxas Logo — Each driveshaft features a precision laser-etched Traxxas logo that's baked into the anodised finish. This adds a touch of authenticity and style to your build, while also serving as a tamper-proof identification mark that confirms you're using genuine Traxxas components.
  • Improved Durability Over Composite — If you're upgrading from a composite driveshaft, this aluminium component offers significantly improved durability under high-stress driving conditions. Aluminium resists shattering and maintains its structural integrity better than composite materials when subjected to repeated impacts or high-torque loads, making it the preferred choice for serious RC drivers.
  • Direct Fit Compatibility — This centre driveshaft is engineered as a direct replacement for compatible Traxxas Slash 4x4 models. It requires the optional 6888X drive hub if you're upgrading from a composite driveshaft configuration, ensuring a smooth transition to this upgraded component.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas TRX6855 driveshaft exemplifies modern RC engineering principles focused on minimising drivetrain losses and maximising component longevity. The 6061-T6 aluminium specification is critical to understanding this product's performance characteristics. This particular aluminium alloy is chosen because it offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio compared to other materials commonly used in RC vehicle construction. The internal spline interface provides a secure, play-free connection that's essential for maintaining precision in brushless electric RC vehicles where immediate throttle response is paramount. In UK RC circles, driveshaft quality is recognised as a key factor in overall vehicle reliability and performance consistency, particularly in competitive short course truck racing where drivetrain failures can cost races. The one-piece construction means there are no weak points or stress concentration areas where cracks might initiate under cyclic loading. The vivid blue anodised finish isn't merely decorative—anodising creates a ceramic-hard oxide layer that provides genuine corrosion resistance, important for RC vehicles that might encounter moisture or salt spray conditions. The laser-etching process used to mark the Traxxas logo is precision-engineered to not compromise the structural integrity of the driveshaft, ensuring the marking is purely aesthetic and functional. This component has been engineered for the Traxxas Slash 4x4 platform, which is a 1/10 scale, 4WD, brushless electric short course truck that demands reliable drivetrain components capable of handling continuous high-torque delivery from modern brushless motors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which Traxxas RC models is this driveshaft compatible with? — The TRX6855 centre driveshaft is designed specifically for the Traxxas Slash 4x4 platform. Confirmed compatible models include the Slash 4X4 BL-2S 1/10 4WD RTR brushless electric short course truck (available in green TRX68154-4-GRN and Fox TRX68154-4-FOX colour schemes) and the Slash Ultimate 4x4 VXL 1/10 4WD brushless short course truck (available in orange TRX68277-4-ORNG). Before ordering, verify your specific model number to ensure compatibility.
  • Do I need any additional parts to install this driveshaft? — If you're upgrading from the standard composite driveshaft to this aluminium unit, you will need to purchase the Traxxas 6888X drive hub as a separate component. This hub interfaces the driveshaft with your vehicle's drive assemblies and is essential for proper installation. If your vehicle already uses an aluminium driveshaft configuration, you may not need additional parts, but always verify with your vehicle's manual or with our expert team at RC Model Shop before ordering.
  • What's the difference between aluminium and composite driveshafts for RC cars? — Aluminium driveshafts like this TRX6855 offer superior durability, better heat dissipation, and improved resistance to shattering compared to composite driveshafts. The 6061-T6 aluminium material maintains its structural integrity under repeated high-torque loading, making it the preferred choice for competitive RC drivers and those who bash hard. Composite shafts are lighter but more prone to breakage under extreme conditions. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to upgrade their short course truck reliability, aluminium is the industry-recognised standard.
  • Why does this driveshaft eliminate driveline play? — The internal spline design creates a precision fit directly onto the input shafts of your front and rear drive assemblies. Unlike looser-fitting alternatives, the internal spline geometry allows for zero backlash and zero play, meaning power is delivered immediately without any delay or wobble. This direct connection is crucial for maintaining steering precision and throttle response in competitive RC racing environments.
  • Is the blue anodised finish durable? — Yes, the anodised finish is extremely durable and serves multiple functions. Anodising creates a hard ceramic oxide layer on the aluminium surface that resists corrosion, provides UV protection, and withstands the wear and tear of regular RC vehicle use. The vivid blue colour remains vibrant through the anodising process and won't peel or chip under normal operating conditions. The laser-etched Traxxas logo is integrated into this finish, so branding won't wear away.
  • How does this upgrade improve my RC short course truck's performance? — Installing this premium aluminium driveshaft delivers several performance benefits. First, the one-piece construction eliminates drivetrain play, resulting in crisper throttle response and more predictable handling. Second, the durable 6061-T6 aluminium resists flex and deformation under high-torque loads, maintaining consistent power delivery throughout your driving session. Third, improved durability means fewer mechanical failures, so you spend more time driving and less time in the workshop making repairs. For brushless electric RC vehicles like the Traxxas Slash 4x4, these improvements translate to better lap times and more enjoyable driving experiences.
  • Can this driveshaft be used in wet conditions? — While the anodised aluminium finish provides excellent corrosion resistance, this component is not specifically waterproof. The internal spline interface is sealed within the drive assembly housings, so water ingress shouldn't occur with normal use. However, you should rinse your vehicle with fresh water after exposure to salt water or heavily contaminated conditions to prevent long-term corrosion and maintain optimal performance. Proper maintenance extends the lifespan of all RC components, including premium parts like this driveshaft.
