Overview

The Traxxas Shocks, GTR XX-Long Blue-anodised, PTFE-coated bodies with TiN shafts (TRX7462) represent the absolute peak of suspension technology for 1/10 scale RC cars. Whether you're a serious competitor looking to fine-tune your setup, an experienced weekend basher pushing your vehicle to the limit, or an enthusiast upgrading your existing RC car, these premium shocks deliver the performance and durability that separates champion setups from standard builds. Available as a fully assembled pair without springs, these GTR shocks are engineered to provide the smoothest, most consistent damping action available in the 1/10 RC car market in the UK and beyond.

If you're running a competitive RC car and want to maximise suspension performance, or if you're simply tired of unpredictable damping and "stiction" issues that plague lesser quality shocks, the GTR XX-Long series is the upgrade you've been searching for. These shocks have earned their reputation as the go-to choice for serious RC enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on quality. With their brilliant blue anodised finish, they look as good as they perform—a genuine statement piece on any 1/10 scale RC platform.

The engineering excellence packed into these shocks is remarkable. Traxxas has focused on solving the real problems that affect suspension performance: inconsistent damping, oil leakage, shaft wear, and the frustration of having to constantly adjust and readjust your setup. The GTR XX-Long shocks address every one of these issues with purpose-built features that make a tangible difference to how your RC car handles, accelerates, and corners.

Key Features

  • Hard-Anodised Aluminium Bodies with PTFE Coating — The shock bodies are constructed from hard-anodised aluminium and coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is the same material used in industrial bearings and high-performance machinery. This coating creates an exceptionally slick surface that dramatically reduces friction inside the shock, resulting in the smoothest damping action available. This means your suspension responds more predictably and consistently, lap after lap, run after run, without the "stiction" (static friction) that causes jerky, unpredictable suspension behaviour on lesser shocks.
  • 13mm Bore Capacity — Over 70% More Oil Than Ultra Shocks — The 13mm bore diameter is significantly larger than standard shocks, allowing these GTR shocks to hold over 70% more oil than Traxxas Ultra Shocks. This increased oil capacity directly translates to better heat dissipation, more consistent damping characteristics over longer runs, and superior performance during intense driving sessions. More oil means your suspension maintains its tuning stability even as temperatures rise during aggressive driving.
  • Titanium-Nitride Coated Shafts (TiN) — Durability and Performance Combined — The shock shafts are coated with titanium nitride, a ceramic compound that is significantly harder than standard steel. This coating dramatically increases the shaft's resistance to scuffing and wear, which means your shocks maintain their performance characteristics for hundreds of runs instead of gradually degrading. The TiN coating also eliminates the "stiction" problem where friction between the shaft and seal causes the suspension to feel unpredictable and sticky.
  • X-Ring Seals — Keep Oil In, Keep Dirt Out — Traditional O-rings are replaced with X-rings (also called quad-rings), which have superior sealing geometry. These X-rings create a more effective seal against both internal oil leakage and external dirt contamination. This dual benefit means your shocks maintain consistent oil levels and damping characteristics even when driving in dusty or muddy conditions, while also preventing the performance degradation that comes from oil loss.
  • Smooth, Consistent Damping and Plush Suspension Action — The combination of PTFE-coated bodies, TiN-coated shafts, X-ring seals, and generous oil capacity creates a suspension experience that feels noticeably plush and responsive. Your RC car sits lower in corners, absorbs bumps more effectively, and maintains grip through technical sections without the wallowing or bottoming-out that compromises performance.
  • Easy Spring Preload and Ride Height Adjustment — Spring preload and ride height changes are accomplished simply by turning the threaded spring collars. There's no need to disassemble the shock or use special tools—you can dial in your setup quickly and easily between runs, making it simple to optimise your car's geometry for different track conditions or driving styles.
  • Locking Screw on Lower Spring Retainers — The lower spring retainers are secured with a locking screw rather than relying on friction alone. This prevents the frustrating mid-run pop-off that can happen on standard shocks, ensuring your suspension setup remains stable and consistent throughout your driving session, even during high-speed runs or aggressive cornering.
  • Fully Assembled and Ready to Install — These shocks arrive fully assembled and ready to drop into your RC car. There's no need to spend time assembling components or worrying about correct assembly procedures—simply unbolt your old shocks and bolt these in.
  • Includes 30-Weight Pure Silicone Shock Oil — A bottle of premium 30-weight pure silicone shock oil is included, so you can immediately service the shocks or experiment with different oil viscosities to fine-tune damping to your preference and driving conditions.

Technical Performance

These 1/10 scale GTR XX-Long shocks represent the culmination of Traxxas's decades of suspension engineering expertise. The 13mm bore diameter is a critical specification that sets these shocks apart from the competition—this large bore accommodates approximately 70% more shock oil than the standard Ultra Shocks, enabling superior thermal stability and more consistent damping throughout extended driving sessions. The hard-anodised aluminium construction provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio, whilst the PTFE coating reduces internal friction to nearly unmeasurable levels, creating damping characteristics that feel smooth and linear rather than stick-slip or inconsistent. The titanium-nitride coated shafts are engineered to withstand thousands of compression and extension cycles without degradation, meaning your shocks will maintain their performance characteristics indefinitely rather than gradually wearing out. The X-ring seal design is based on aerospace-grade sealing technology and provides dual benefits: it prevents internal oil leakage that would cause performance degradation, and it creates an effective barrier against external contamination from dust, mud, and water. Whether you're running on carpet tracks, off-road dirt surfaces, or asphalt competition circuits, these shocks deliver predictable, tunable, professional-grade suspension performance. The threaded spring collar system allows for infinite adjustment of preload and ride height, giving you the flexibility to optimise your setup for your specific driving style, track conditions, and vehicle platform. UK RC enthusiasts have consistently found that upgrading to GTR shocks produces noticeable improvements in cornering grip, bump absorption, and overall handling consistency—precisely the kind of measurable performance gains that justify the investment in premium suspension components.

  • Do I need to purchase springs separately? — Yes, springs are sold separately and are not included with these shocks. You'll need to source springs that match your vehicle platform, driving style, and track conditions. Traxxas and other manufacturers offer a range of spring options with different rates to suit different applications.
  • What is the difference between GTR XX-Long shocks and standard Traxxas Ultra Shocks? — The GTR shocks represent a significant step up in suspension technology. The main differences are: GTR shocks feature a larger 13mm bore that holds over 70% more oil for better heat dissipation and consistency; PTFE-coated bodies for smoother damping compared to standard aluminium; titanium-nitride coated shafts that resist wear and eliminate stiction; and X-ring seals rather than standard O-rings for superior sealing. All of these features combine to create noticeably smoother, more responsive, and more durable suspension performance.
  • Can I adjust the ride height and spring preload on these shocks? — Yes, one of the standout features of these GTR shocks is the easy adjustability. Spring preload and ride height are adjusted simply by turning the threaded spring collars—no tools or disassembly required. This allows you to quickly fine-tune your setup between runs to suit different track conditions or driving styles.
  • What shock oil viscosity is included, and can I use different oils? — The shocks come with 30-weight pure silicone shock oil. You can experiment with different viscosities (lighter or heavier oils) to fine-tune your damping characteristics to your preference. Always use pure silicone shock oil rather than standard oils, as it's specifically formulated for the extreme pressures and temperatures within shock absorbers.
  • How durable are these shocks compared to standard alternatives? — The titanium-nitride coating on the shafts significantly extends the lifespan of these shocks compared to standard shocks. The harder, more wear-resistant surface means the shafts won't scuff or degrade over hundreds of runs, maintaining consistent performance indefinitely rather than gradually degrading. The hard-anodised aluminium bodies are also more durable than standard aluminium.
